Peterson thought he was going 85

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said in response to the news that he’d recently been pulled over for driving his car 109 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone that he didn’t realize he was driving that fast.

Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Peterson told the officer who pulled him over that Peterson believed he was going 85.

Peterson was on his way to a Minneapolis hotel where the team spends the night before home games.

In 2006, former Vikings receiver Koren Robinson led police on a triple-digit chase though Mankato on his way back to training camp. That incident began when Robinson was detected going 104, also in a 55-mph zone.

The difference, of course, is that Robinson had been partying like it’s 0.1999. (OK, he actually blew only a 0.11, but that doesn’t fit the reference.)

Peterson was merely driving really, really fast while completely sober.
