When the New England Patriots left for Miami on Saturday, several injured players stayed behind, their status for Sunday’s game necessarily downgraded to out.
Per Tom Curran of Comcast’s CSNNE.com, tackle Sebastian Vollmer, cornerback Shawn Springs, and running back Fred Taylor will not play.
Vollmer has been suffering from a concussion, and the offensive line has been suffering without the rookie, who grabbed hold of the starting job after Matt Light was injured. Light is now back, but he’s not the same as he used to be.
Taylor has been out more two-plus months with an ankle injury, and he had been listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game. The only good news for him of late is that he returned to practice on Friday.
Springs officially was probable with a knee injury — his absence likely is related to performance.
Everybody should pick up the Dolphins D in their fantasy football leagues for tomorrow. Jason Taylor is going to eat Light alive, just like he always does.
“Light is now back, but he’s not the same as he used to be.”
Light is exactly the same as he used to be. The only difference is that more people are now noticing how bad Light really is.
Sorry but that’s – as always – a bit unfair to Matt Light. Just as Steven Neal, Light did not play the full game – Light was in and out (LeVoir) as well as Neal (Connolly). I do not think the Patriots had more reserves on their active roster that day …
I also think that Kaczur and Koppen – who were both injured before – were also still a bit dinged up in that Saints game. Which makes it about four out of five players playing hurt to some extent … which probably explains the performance in the game.
Just look at the first drive, that was magnificent by the Patriots and the Saints could not stop them in that drive. I probably will never forget why the Pats abandoned the run afterwards (it was 7-3), but the next two possessions were cut short (3 and out, INT).

Tom Curran is a PFT has been. He just couldn’t cut it with the pros anymore.
Light has trouble with Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney? What Tackle in the NFL doesn’t. Light is not an elite LT, just a slightly above average one. The vast majority of Pats fans are well aware of this. To say he’s “not the same” or he “sucks” based on one game back after injury (against an elite Saints team) is just uninformed hyperbole.
“Light has trouble with Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney? What Tackle in the NFL doesn’t.”
Well, actually, most Pats fans know that Light handles Freeney just fine whenever they play. Taylor… now that’s another story. Every player has their nemisis and Light’s is surely Taylor, just as Freeney’s has often been Light in big Pats / Colts games.

Respectfully disagree. More often than not Light has had to have help from a tight end or a back chipping Freeney to keep Brady clean.
