Jaguars deal Texans knockout blow

First the Jaguars knocked Matt Schaub from the game.  (He returned.)

Then Jacksonville removed any reasonable hope Houston had left for a playoff berth.  (Gary Kubiak may not return.)

David Garrard completed 15-of-28 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns to lead Jacksonville to a 23-18 victory.  The game wasn’t always pretty, but Garrard did an outstanding job of completing difficult passes with heavy pressure in his face.

One play call will stick in Kubiak’s head for the rest of his life if he’s not brought back by the Texans.

On first-and-goal from the five-yard line with under nine minutes left, the Texans handed the ball to Chris Brown . . . who threw an interception.  Ugh.  The Texans later scored a touchdown to make the game close, but Maurice Jones-Drew ran the clock out against Houston’s defense.

With Jacksonville’s big names quiet Sunday, players like Nate Hughes, Ernest Wilford, Marcedes Lewis, and “the other” Zach Miller all made huge plays.

At 7-5, Jacksonville’s no-name crew remains in solid position for a possible wild card spot.

And the Texans will wonder why they can’t get over the hump.

We dont want Gary! Do not even fly him back to Houston. Let him buy his own dang plane ticket back to town or where ever. WE DONT WANT HIM! I hope hes gone at the seasons end. Florio or Rosenthal or whoever, please keep me updated on any coaching rumors regarding the Texans. Thanks

As a Jags fan, i dont think they would make it to the playoffs. Even if they win out most of the games which is very difficult if not impossible, they will loose the browns in the last game. This team is too inconsistent and it starts from the QB.

Brown just threw it right into the hands of Alexander, not Texans around, nothing. What the f–k was he thinking?

I don’t like the no-name crew comment, you could say that for almost every team in the league.
But, if it was meant to remark upon some lesser known Jaguar players having an impact in the win today, then I can understand why you wrote it.

It’s apparent this post by Gregg Rosenthal is completely disgusted that the Jags are playing for a playoff spot. He would not have said this about any other team in the league. But, he’s actually right. We are a team of a bunch of no-names b/c no one takes this team serious. So f@ck him and everyone else. You make the playoff and make it to the Super Bowl then everyone will know you name.
But let’s be honest, we’re not making the playoffs. If we do well that’s just a bonus. We get into the redzone how many times a game and convert a TD maybe 20% of the time. It is what it is. I could care less if no one knows the players on my team. Most of those people always go with the sexy pick anyway( Farve, Romo, Brady, Manning) the usual names you here over and over and over and over every week. The Jags just have to prove everyone wrong and until they do they will be a no-name team.

I’m tired of playing the “we get no respect card”. We don’t have apt of big name players, that’s okay because we have a very young team. With that comes inconsistency, but we’re doing something a lot of other AFC teams aren’t…we’re winning. We control our destiny, win 3 of the last 4 and we’re in, it’s that simple. The goal is to get into the tournament, after that anything is possible. Go Jags!

    goJags,
First of all change your screen name. Secondly, the Jags are in the playoffs if they win 2 of the next 4. Also, Garrard is so inconsistent that he has led his team to a 7-5 record and a top 15 offense despite being the only QB since 1983 to have two starting rookie tackles. His center is on his last leg and UChe and Manuwai have been attrocious this year. So go buy a Tebow Jag jersey and give it to me for X-mas so I have something to wipe my arse with.

    mmarlette,
I think they get in with winning just two of the next 4, especially if one of the wins is against Miami this week. It will play out for the Jags to be the 6th seed with a 9-7 record.
