Jim Brown watches L.T. pass him by

Prior to the season, Jim Brown said that Adrian Peterson is the “most complete back” Brown had seen.

On Sunday, Brown got to witness LaDainian Tomlinson complete the process of leapfrogging Brown for eighth place on the NFL all-time rushing list.

Tomlinson passed Brown’s mark of 12,312 yards in Cleveland, and Tomlinson saluted Brown (not in the Bud Adams way) after doing so.

In the 1970s, when Brown was first on the all-time list, he suggested coming out of retirement to fend off Franco Harris.  Though Harris never caught Brown, eight now have — Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Curtis Martin, Jerome Bettis, Eric Dickerson, Tony Dorsett, and Tomlinson.

Edgerrin James is less than 200 yards behind Brown, but James was cut earlier this year by the Seahawks and he has gotten no serious sniffs since then.

Tomlinson needs roughly 400 yards to pass Dorsett.

L T has 9 straight seasons with double digit TDs. Thats crazy, I dont think A. Peterson can replicate that.

I thought Lawrence Taylor was already retired?

Easy there. Jim Brown played only 9 years and with shorter seasons to go with it. He also has a title…something LDT has yet to accomplish.
Jim Brown is still the best.

LT salutes the great Jim Brown.
Jim Brown takes a swig – unimpressed; “meh”

When asked what day it is it also took Brown 4 tries to answer correctly.

    Hey…Manginiwithcheese…
PISS OFF! All you’ve got to fall back on in 50 years is Jim Brown, and he just got snuffed by a Charger. Be a man and deal with it. If Brown was so great, he shouldn’t have quit after 9 seasons. But, he did, and now 9 RB’s are BETTER than him.
PS….and, LT had the class to acknowledge the man’s presence, and all he did was sit there like a poor man’s Muhammad Ali and look bitter.

Jim Brown never broke a leg like LT did to Joe Theisman’s leg……..
and LT had way more sacks than Jim Brown too…..

Jim Brown wears funny hates and probably does alot of coke.

  9. Popeye says: Dec 6, 2009 9:02 PM

If Tomlinson was as big as the defensive lineman like Jim Brown was, LT would have 20k yards already….Peterson is NOT a complete back….cant block and struggles to catch….

    Hey boltturdcraft,
You don’t measure who is better. You don’t. You especially don’t by comparing subjective-ass stats—unless you are a brain dead fringe fan with a need to understand something about the game. Watch a game.
LT and those other 8 are the top 9 “PRODUCTIVE” backs of all time. Grow a brain and become a real fan, and quit trying to put your guy up on a pedestal. He is one of the all-time greats, isn’t that good enough for you, or do you have to try and smite others by using stats?
ESPN has turned your kind into sports CPA’s. Bean counting makes more sense in baseball since it is more of an unchanged game (NFL rules have swung to the Offense’s side) and involves individual matchups and a larger sampling. I hate ESPN and fans like you.

LT Shows the man respect and he doesn’t even Acknowledge him poor sport…

I read elsewhere that Jim Brown was waiting in the Chargers locker room after the game to congratulate L.T., so ya might want to hold off calling him a poor sport. Hell, at the age of 73, he might not have even been aware it happened until someone told him…

Maybe Jim Brown, who I respect, knows that LT is a modern day classless athlete with little respect for anything but himself.

LT is one of the greatest of all times but was known as the best in the league for a very short period of time. It’s just a testimate to his ability to be great for as long as he did. I hope LT can be great on the field once again but the Chargers have a LOT of work to do with that OL first.

Jim Brown needs to get off his horse, IMO.
The guy had set records back in the day and was a great running back, but the dude rarely gives respect to running backs that challenge his records, and he insists on being so damn vocal about the oddest subjects.
Can’t respect the guy that can’t get over himself and respect the younger blood in the NFL. I thought it was totally classless when LT saluted Brown and Brown just ignored him. Lame Jim, just lame. Show some respect back.

    ————————————————
LT is on the verge of setting records that Jim Brown never set, with regards to being good for so long (ten years with 10+ TDs).
I wouldn’t say that is a “very short period of time.”
I’m not an LT apologist, but the dude deserves respect for an achievement like that, regardless of his past petulant actions. Jim Brown is just as much a baby as LT is, yet he is somehow absolved of a lot of this same criticism.
