The Saints easily beat the Patriots without two of their top cornerbacks: Jabari Greer and Randall Gay.
Now they head to Washington without both cornerbacks and starting linebacker Scott Fujita, who is a far more surprising scratch.
Fujita was downgraded all the way from probable to out with a knee injury and did not make the trip to Washington. (UPDATE: Fox reports Fujita has a staph infection.) One of his backups Marvin Mitchell — more of a special teamer — was also downgraded to out.
Washington still has an excellent defense and has played its best football over the last month.
Sunday has all the markings of a “trap game” for New Orleans coming off a short week, but the race for the top seed in the NFC should keep them motivated.
Plus it’s a chance for Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to have his revenge on Dan Snyder for not hiring him.
OK, I get it. If you call every game a trap game for the Saints, then you can give the old “I told you so” if they lose. I think this is trap game #5 and the “L” column still has a zero.
“Washington still has an excellent defense ”
WHAT?
The Saints top two cornerbacks are Greer & Tracy Porter. Randall Gay plays nickel. But yes, the Saints easily beat the Patriots without Greer & Porter, who will both be out against the Skins.
