Panthers coach John Fox won’t say who his starting quarterback will be this week, but there isn’t a lot of mystery about whether Jake Delhomme or Matt Moore will start Sunday in New England.
Asked about the decision on Twitter, Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald wrote, “Delhomme has broken finger, can’t grip ball. Moore has another week.”
Moore managed to not lose Carolina’s game against Tampa Bay, and it sounds like Delhomme’s injury is serious. Gantt guesses that Delhomme could win up on injured reserve once the Panthers are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Moore will try to keep Carolina’s tiny playoff hopes alive against a slumping Patriots secondary.
If nothing else, Moore should get to tell his kids that he once started at quarterback against Tom Brady and Brett Favre in successive weeks. Not bad for a guy who wasn’t drafted out of Oregon State.

win should be wind
no need to post this reply, just a heads up to the writers.
is this site an opinion column now?
Jake Delhomme has done a lot for the Panthers franchise since 2003, and I will always be a fan of him, however I think it’s time to let Matt Moore play out the season.
Moore has shown potential in his 4 career starts and he deserves the rest of the year to prove himself. Hopefully he can be the Panthers’ QB of the future, because there isn’t much to choose from in the draft or free agency next year.
I’m excited to see how he plays against the toughest remaining schedule in the NFL.
Joey Joe Joe,
I believe a blog is always a little news with a lot of opinion.
A lot of things need to be seriously evaluated in Carolina.
Steve Smith needs a WR opposite him that’s just as much of a threat as he is. Moose had put in serviceable years with the Panthers but at this age he just can’t get the separation. I’ve been waiting for Dwayne Jarrett to click but it’s not there.
Matt Moore needs to hit the short routs and manage the game.
He will be just fine.
3-1 career record for moore.. they shoud let him finish out the year and bank on him being the starter next year.. draft another qb in the draft, maybe a dual threat like Armanti Edwards to accompany the running duo.
“Moore managed to not lose Carolina’s game against Tampa Bay, and it sounds like Delhomme’s injury is serious.”
As long as we’re nitpicking “to not lose” is a split infinitive.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This site is a rumors column and always has been.
Moore is ok, and a cheap alternative than going with a high pick….they can always get Dan LeFevour of C.Michigan later in draft to develop for the future.
“Delhomme has A broken finger, And can’t grip the ball”. There I fixed it for you. Florio, these kids you hired must have staggered through college!
I broke his finger!
Armanti Edwards getting love…..LOVE IT! The kid has the heart of any player in the league, his durability and arm strength are the things keeping him from being an NFL starting QB. I think Armanti will be a mid-round pick…would love to see him in CLT!
Armanti Edwards wouldnt start for 98% of the teams in Conference USA.
CFL is more likely where he is going, not CLT.
Loser!
Kravon,
Funny you should mention the word loser. Let’s associate the word with things you can relate to….like, your NFL team the Pittsburgh Steelers (losers of 4 straight), your college football team the Pitt Panthers (another team in Cincinnati destroyed your dreams…thanks Bearcats)….and the Pitt Panthers basketball team….favored by 9 last night over Indiana and lost by 10 to IU.
I don’t hate you…it’s more like feeling sorry for you. Don’t have much going right these days, huh?
Armanti would start at any Conf. USA school minus Houston and maybe ECU.
Jake is the worst starting QB in the league right now. Bench his ass and let Moore have his opportunity to see if he can put something together for the Panthers were they finish the season strong, which could do wonders for Carolina going into next year.
If Moore is successful these last four games, Fox will just have to swallow his pride and make Jake the most overpaid backup in the league.
I really hope Fox lets the Moore play the season out. We’re stuck in a dilema because we don’t have a first round pick next season, so we can’t just tank the season to get a high draft pick. If drafting a quarterback is something that team may look into, we may already have that “pick” on the team in Matt Moore. Lets see what this kid has! I agree with others that have mentioned getting WR help for Smith. Lets evaluate Moore to determine if drafting a QB is needed. If not, then look at picking up some WR help.
