Redskins waive Suisham, sign Gano

On Sunday Shaun Suisham missed an easy field goal that would have given the Washington Redskins a win over the New Orleans Saints.

Today Suisham is out of work.

Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins waived Suisham and signed kicker Graham Gano.

Gano won the Lou Groza award as the best kicker in college football last year at Florida State, but he wasn’t drafted this year and was released after a training camp tryout with the Baltimore Ravens. After the Ravens let him go he signed with Las Vegas of the UFL, where he scored the first points in the UFL, kicked the longest field goal in the UFL, and kicked the game-winning field goal in the UFL championship game.

And that means the Redskins now have the best kicker in UFL history on their roster. So they’ve got that going for them, which is nice.
