Veteran defensive tackle Shaun Smith, whose biggest claim to fame came last December when he slugged Browns quarterback Brady Quinn during a weightlifting session, could be coming back to Cincinnati.
Smith says he had a tryout with the Bengals on Tuesday, and receiver Chad Ochocinco reports (via the OCNN) that Smith “returns to the Bengals to be a force once again just as he was in the past!”
Chad’s open-arm routine for Smith is a bit curious, since Smith at one point last year ratted out Ochocinco for the notorious halftime meltdown during the team’s playoff game to cap the 2005 season.
The Browns cut Smith in August. He then signed with the Lions, and he chewed out then-G.M. George Kokinis after a preseason game. Smith later was cut by the Lions, and suspended by the league for violating the steroids policy. He resurfaced recently in the UFL.
The Bengals need bodies at the defensive tackle position, given that Domata Peko has had knee surgery and Tank Johnson has a back and foot problem.
UPDATE: Smith will sign with the Bengals on Wednesday.

Also Chad may have told smith to let the meltdown be known. After all, Chad was on the outs with the Bengals last year.
