Refs always make bad calls but lately it seems the calls they are making are deciding the games. Remember last year during the Chargers/Broncos game, Cutler fumbled the ball they ruled it an incomplete pass and whistled the play dead. When it was actually a fumble and would have been the Chargers ball and the Chargers would have secured their victory. Very costly mistake, the NFL even admitted that one.
But I'm pretty used to #$%%ty calls, I'm a Raiders fan.
They tried to fix this in '03, didn't work. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/news/2003/03/25/playoff_officials_ap/
Remember this "The change was motivated in large part by commissioner Paul Tagliabue's rare public criticism of the officiating. It came following San Francisco's 39-38 wild-card victory over the New York Giants.
With six seconds left, the Giants lined up for the winning field-goal attempt, the snap was botched and holder Matt Allen threw a desperation pass downfield. The Giants were called for an illegal receiver downfield, but tapes showed the 49ers should also have been called for pass interference. "
Refs make mistakes, but they are paid to make them if I made as many mistakes as they did I wouldn't have a job.

The officiating is broken because of the polemic press guys like Florio who think they need to put any garbage under the microscope in order to generate hits.
______________--
Yeah that's it, you got it nailed. It's all about website hits, not poor calls or non-calls.
Every time I see a bad officiating call the first thing I think of is it's going to generate hits for Florio or some other website, not that it's a bad call that shouldn't have happened. (Insert sarcasm here in case you missed it)
If it's under a microscope, it's because of technological advances like multiple camera angles, instant replay, and the ability to review a call in real time. Not because of the press, Florio or others like him.
You can also give some credit to the popularity of fantasy football where 100,000's of fantasy players have a stake in the outcome of a game between two teams they wouldn't have paid a bit of attention to 25 years ago before FF. FF cuts both ways, the NFL and Coaches may not like it, but it has raised awareness of the game to new heights. You think anybody outside of Buffalo knew who the 2nd or 3rd string TE was 25 years ago? Well they do today, and they also pay attention to officiating like never before in the past.

Maybe Singletary should concern himself more with his team's horrible play calling. Who would you rather have shoulder the load, Alex Smith or Frank Gore? Gore only had 9 carries, and that is why they lost. In week two, Gore had 200+ yards and two TDs against the Seahawks.

Yeah, and it's not like the 49ers were behind the whole game so they "had" to pass. They were never down by more than 7 points.

That's why the officials tend to go the easy way on calls.
Shut it up, Florio, and the thing will fix itself.

Im confused how on Hines Ward is allowed to blatenly pull a face mask while someone tries to jam him and nothing is called. I mean I love him, but that was the call that made no sense to me this week. Also Delanie Walker getting tackled 5 secs before the ball got to him was pretty ridiculous. Also how the Packers just kept putting Ravens WR's in arm bars but Baltimore's CB's couldnt touch the Packers WR. You know what, Sings is right there was a lot of bad officiating this week.

Amen.
There are more bad calls and non-calls this year than I've ever seen and I've followed the game since long before Singletary entered the league.
It's nice to see a Coach taking this position rather than the BS NFL line, even though he'll get fined for his comments.

There are more bad calls and non-calls this year than I’ve ever seen and I’ve followed the game since long before Singletary entered the league.
It’s nice to see a Coach taking this position rather than the BS NFL line, even though he’ll get fined for his comments.

Hell, the Monday night game between the Ravens and Packers was horrible! It was obvious the refs in that game wanted to make the game about them. What were there...20 flags in that game? And most of them of the 15 yard variety. They were calling such pathetic ticky-tac PI calls in that game! I had to turn the tube off! I'm so disgusted with the state of football right now. Can these worthless refs and pay them year round and have them study film and how to ref correctly! Most of them are lawyers and doctors and judges and stuff...you'd think they would be smarter on the judgement calls.

Nothing worse than a sour-grapes losing coach. The guy is just not head coaching material. He'd be a good linebackers coach/asst. head coach possibly, but nothing more. He is 100% unqualified.
The Niners have been hiring unqualified head coaches and GM's for 7 years now. It's the organization that's at fault. After the Terry Donahue/Dennis Erickson disaster, they even went a few years with NO GM and handed the whole schlemiel to a guy who had zero head coaching experience and zero GM experience (Mike Nolan). Then they followed that up with another guy with zero head coaching experience (Singletary), while their current, so-called "GM" is a career scout, again with zero previous GM experience. It's a big running joke at this point.
The Yorks have taken one of the great franchises in sport and murdered it.

I can think of a bunch of botched calls. The non-call of passing interference on Delanie Walker, the non-call of the safety on Julius Jones (instead they blew the whistle after he was stuffed in the endzone), the ruling of forward progress on the strip (the whistle had not blown and the ball was stripped). Or the passing intereference on the final drive when TJ douchmenzada tied up arms with Bly (if I remember correctly). The offensive passing interference on Brandon Jones. I'm probably wrong on a couple of those but those refs decided the damn game.

Your like the writers of Family Guy: Your not clever, or smart so you just steal a joke thats been done a million times and some how make it less funny.
@shinsnake
As someone who watched both Super Bowl 40 and the game on sunday the game on sunday was way worse. The calls in Super Bowl 40 were not incorrect they just felt one sided, the calls in sunday's game were bad calls.
That was a horrible game, Walker pretty much got tackled in the endzone and didn't catch the ball. I usually will complain about bad calls in the heat of the moment after a loss but the next day I am over it. This game and the Vikings game (for the 49ers) were the two games I thought the refs really are the reason we lost. It really sucks because little games like that are going to add up and probably be the reason we miss the play offs. Looking forward to next year, it looks like we are set at QB so we have two draft picks to get help on the line and in the secondary.

Singletary is right on. The NFL officials suck at their jobs. Where else in the World can you get paid that good and screw your job up on a weekly basis and still have a job?
These officials only see what they want to see whether made up or not. You can't tell me that these officials don't have favorite teams and favor them heavily.
They should all be fired and start with a completely new staff. The same shit will happen again, but at least it won't be by these current idiots.

Write the check, Mike. As a player, there are at least 7 middle linebackers I take ahead of him:
Dick Butkus
Randy Gradishar
Chuck Bednarik
Ray Nitschke
Jack Lambert
Sam Huff
Harry Carson
Oh, and by the way, the head coaching success will come when?
