I am almost certain it was Thompson that wanted Matthews badly. It is known that he went to the USC pro-day to make Matthews his top priority. He was enamored with him before the draft. Although Capers might have put his two cents in, I believe it was Thompson who kept his finger on the trigger from Day 1.

True enough. I hate Thompson more than almost anyone out there, but even I have to take off my cheese hat to him for this year’s draft.

I have to agree Cushing and Byrd should be the front runners, but Mathews has done an excellent job. I think it was a mistake to wait until Game 5 or 6 to really start giving him playing time. All Mathews does is hustle and make plays.

Wait, you’re forgetting an important issue. Next year, Favre is gone. Then it will be back to good old Chilly ball. He can can not draft a QB with any talent, history has proven this.
Next season, after the Vikings lose in round one of the playoffs, every team will be stacking the box like years past and then it’s a return to .500 football!
Then, the following season, it will be the LA Viqueens.
I wonder if they will rename them? Or do they stay with the old name like the Lakers did? So long! Have fun watching your team on Directv!

Vikings and Packers have both done a great job of mixing young talent with solid veterans. The problem for both teams is the age of important positions. Packers best two corners are in their 30s. Their left tackle is done. They may get one more year out of their right tackle. Vikings have a really old quarterback (what’s his name), Antoine Winfield and Pat Williams are getting near the end, and they are gonna have to replace the left side of their O line in the near future. Good thing they didn’t pull what Chicago did and give up their drafts for a mediocre player. Great rivalry.

Matthews is quickly becoming my favorite Packer. I think it is unfair to compare him to A.J. Hawk though because they play different positions. Matthews is more of a defensive end in the 3-4 than a linebacker and A.J. is a middle linebacker. That said I don’t think Hawk has played up to his 5th overall selection yet either.

Hate to say it, but BobLob (can I call you that?) is right, Pervy is definitely our Nelson and Smith… though his tactics are a little less coy than theirs
Grats Clay, well deserved.
Those that are saying this young Packer team is shaping up and will be a force to reckon with for years to come are probably right, but you’re forgetting that there is a ton of young talent on the Vikes side as well. If the matchups are great for years to come, we all benefit with some good football!
For the love of the game, I just hope the purple are still around for us to enjoy the rivalry…

Hey this guy Matthews deserves the honor, I’m an embarrassed Raven fan. Green Bay cleaned our clocks. It’s very sad to watch a team put a defense on the field that looks so much like Raven defenses of old.
But; now we have these inept coaches and we sit in despair and watch our team self destruct, it’s even more painful on MNF.
