Four Patriots, including Moss, sent home before practice

Inclement weather is no excuse for being late to a Patriots team meeting.

That’s the lesson that four Patriots learned Wednesday morning, including Randy Moss.  Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal wrote on Twitter that Moss, Derrick Burgess, Gary Guyton, and Adalius Thomas were sent home.

Weather reportedly created traffic problems in Foxborough, but perhaps coach Bill Belichick wanted to send a message to his team.

The four players will not be able to participate in practice or team meetings on Wednesday, usually a huge day for installation of the game plan.

UPDATE:  Belichick would not confirm or deny the report at his press conference. He said that any discipline on the team will stay between him and his players.

UPDATE II: Tom Brady’s response to the report: “You guys find out everything these days, don’t you?”

Great, all the Patriots need, another loss. Why give Adalius Thomas even more reason to be completely out of place on the field at all times?

  2. scrapdawg12 says: Dec 9, 2009 11:14 AM

Do you think these guys give a crap? They are already overpaid. So Moss, Thomas, Burgess and Guyton all went out drinking instead. Good move Belicheat.

  3. SheHateMe says: Dec 9, 2009 11:15 AM

About time. There are two many talented guys who want to play who would play their hearts out for an opportunity like this, to put up with overpaid jerks who only want to put in 50%. I was pleasantly surprised to hear TB’s comments and they apparently got thru to BB. He was spot on with his comments.
I’d rather watch these hard-working guys on any team than these lackadasical, so-called ‘superstars’ any time. It’s why I so enjoyed watching the the ‘strikebreakers’ play baseball and was so disappointed when the ‘real’ players came back…..

  4. Tombradysbaby says: Dec 9, 2009 11:20 AM

Well, it’s not like those players will need to hear the game plan.
    Offense:
    Run it
    Throw it to Welker
    Throw it to Moss
Go for it on 4th down
    Defense:
    Run around, and look busy.

  5. LovinBlue says: Dec 9, 2009 11:25 AM

I doubt this greatly impacts the team against the struggling Panthers, but it also seems a bit harsh. Nothing says concern for player safety like implicitly requiring them to find a way to make it to practice, rain, sleet or snow.

  6. olcap says: Dec 9, 2009 11:27 AM

The message Belicheat is sending to his players: “I am incontrollably anal and have OCD, and, even if there are weather conditions that reasonably prevent you from being here on time, I will unreasonably punish you and the team by sending you home.”

  7. last starfighter says: Dec 9, 2009 11:32 AM

Trying to discipline adult men for crap like this is comical. In the real world, your boss could threaten your job. Do you think Randy Moss fears for his job?

something very strange has been happening to this team right from the trading of seymour at the start and the absurd calls belichick suddenly now makes every game. and brady calling out his teamates. and brady handling timeouts and the clock like he was donovan mcnabb.
they may soon be out of the playoffs again for the 2nd time in a row.

  11. CarolinaPatsFan says: Dec 9, 2009 11:45 AM

@Tombradysbaby – Now that is funny, and unfortunately kind of true this season. Fortunately that the Panther’s game plan is similar – without Moss or Welker, obviously.

    Fail to make it

  16. D.R.Universal says: Dec 9, 2009 11:56 AM

  17. bspurloc says: Dec 9, 2009 11:58 AM

Weather is no excuse for being late.
    This storm was no surprise.
You get up earlier and you leave earlier.
No one else on the Team was late so there is no excuse at all.
Snow is NOT a rare thing in New England and they all know bellicheats stance.
But of course all this doesn’t matter when you don’t care, and that is the issue here.
But on the other hand, who the hell cares if bellicheat sent people home or not

  18. jchilds23 says: Dec 9, 2009 11:59 AM

Sounds to me like he’s trying to send a message. This is the least disciplined Patriot team I’ve ever seen in the Brady era.

  19. RaiderChile says: Dec 9, 2009 12:03 PM

Rust is creeping into the Pats locker room. This maybe the beginning of the end for him. Discontent in the locker room will start as the losses mount and the coach will eventually be removed. Not this year maybe end of next year with more losses.
I’m sure the Seymour deal left some to question his authority.
    Burn baby burn!

    Loser.

I think I should step in, and take it upon myself to help further clarify:
    First Half Offense:
    A) Run the shit out of the ball with Maroney, and make big plays.
    B) Throw to Welker 2 yards from the line and let him do all the work.
    C) Throw the ball to Moss, hope he makes an attempt to catch it.
    D) Run the ball into the end zone with Maroney.
    First Half Defense:
    A) Play hard, shut down opponent.
    Second Half Offense:
    A) …………
    Second Half Defense:
    A) Play hard, but dont make any impact plays
    B) Stop opponent on first and second down, give up a first down on 3rd and whatever.
    C) DB’s, make sure you are within 3 yards of the receiver, never locate the ball, so that you are close enough to make the play, but never do, frustrating the Pats fans to no end.

The weather was pretty bad up here, snow and ice, so I don’t quite see where Belichick was coming from. I realize he may feel that the rest of the team made it there on time so why didn’t these four, but really, it’s not like these guys are constantly late or missing. And to send them home instead of working on the game plan, etc. ???
See,s a little harsh in light of the situation, but hey, he probably has his reasons, and after the last two weeks, they’re lucky that’s all he’s done.

    Again, thanks.

I live in New England and we got about twice as much snow as was originally forecasted here in CT. No matter how early you leave, you can only drive as fast as the car in front of you. If the car in front of that slides around sideways then stops traffic, you don’t move at all. Bill-I-Cheat is just a douche.

What’s upsetting to Pats fans is the that our under-performing defense has three players not bothering to leave early enough….thinking they don’t need to be on time. If all other 49 players are present, there’s no excuse for them to be late. Thomas has mentally checked out for the year. Burgess…does he play? Guyton probably does feel bad about it.
As for Moss…i have no problem with him other than with this instance of being late. Everyone is bagging on him, but he’s been hurt a lot this year, yet played every game. He keeps his yapp shut, does a good job (could be better, but couldn’t everyone?), and hasn’t thrown any teammates under any proverbial bus during the times of adversity.
