Frustrated Vrabel gave the finger to Broncos

Mike Vrabel isn’t accustomed to losing. In 12 previous NFL seasons with the Steelers and Patriots he usually played for teams that were either good or great, and he earned three Super Bowl rings.

So now that Vrabel is playing linebacker for the 3-9 Kansas City Chiefs, he’s frustrated.

That frustration boiled over during Sunday’s 44-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. When the Broncos scored a fourth quarter touchdown after going for it on fourth down, Vrabel extended his middle finger to the Broncos’ bench as he walked off the field.

I was frustrated,” Vrabel said afterward, per Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star. “I’ve been on the other end of one of those [blowout victory] and it’s a lot of fun. Well, now I’ve been on the other side, and it’s not good.”

Not much is good right now for the Chiefs, who have lost their last two games by a combined 60 points. Although the Patriots have their own problems at the moment, Vrabel must miss New England.

Tough to imagine why the Chiefs are even playing Vrabel at this point unless they don’t believe in Andy Studebaker. Someone hook them up with YouTube. :-)

I remember years ago (Maybe 1994 or so) ABC was doing a saturday afternoon playoff game between Miami and Buffalo.
They were going to commercials and they zoomed in on Thurman Thomas who gave the middle finger to the Miami bench and you could read his lips as he proclaimed “F*^% you.”
I was around 11(exactly 11 if it was in 1994) and I thought it was the greatest TV moment ever.
Then in 1996 I went to my gf’s house who had a black box and watched mid-day unscrambled porn. We had a new greatest moment.

One day maybe we’ll know what was up with the notion of including Vrabel in the trade with Cassel.
Perhaps his $4.5 million price tag was too high for the Patriots and Vrabel wasn’t open to a pay cut.
While the Pats could have cut him that might have led to him being signed by the Jets or another rival… perhaps it was deemed wisest to send him to KC, along with Cassel, where he’d receive his full $4.5 million, while playing for a GM he knew, giving Cassel a needed veteran friend during his transition.
In hindsight the Pats would gladly have paid him $4.5 million but not knowing the extent of their LB needs at the time, one can’t second guess their decision.

And New England misses Mike Vrabel. His trade is something I still question.
His cap # was I believe alittle high but I believe his leadership is missing from the current team.
They traded him a year too early.
If Pioli can work magic in KC they will be competitive next year. Some of his last drafts in New England now seem to question the genius of Pioli.
    Great leader and player.

If I were him, I would have been pissed, too. Not because the Broncos did it, but because they ran roughshod over them. They got pounded on the ground.

I bet it sucks when you’re on a team that doesn’t cheat to win. Sure blow outs suck, but guess what big boy, everyone’s got to get their ass beat sometime. Look at Florio, he consistently gets his ass beat on a daily basis. But he’s not giving anyone the finger is he? NO, so suck it up and be more like Florio! OMG……I’m losing my mind. I need to say NO to Drugs!!!!! What garbage am I’m typing? I need help man……

different when its 45-0 in the fourth qtr., and your starting qb is still in there trying to put up more points, never forgot when New England ran it up on Joe Gibbs and the Skins a few years ago, and this year going 59-0 on the Titans, now Vrabels getting to be on the other end of that BS, ironic isn’t it that Bellicheck wannabe was the one piling it on???

  12. Favre On HGH says: Dec 9, 2009 9:36 PM

Bryan Cox wanna be. You don’t flip them off as you walk away.
Cox also sees himself as the protector of his teammates. In a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in his rookie season, he observed a Bengal linebacker mowing down Dolphin kicker Pete Stoyanovich on a kickoff. Cox became so enraged that he rushed over to the Bengal bench and picked a fight with everybody who was on the sideline, including the coaches.
“I noticed that the linebacker who hit Pete was laughing,” says Cox. “So I suggested if he wanted to hit somebody bigger, he ought to go ahead and hit me. Well, he stopped laughing.” Wasn’t it foolhardy to challenge the entire Bengal bench? “They all could’ve gotten me,” says Cox. “But I would’ve gotten somebody. And he would have remembered me.”

The little baby hoodie in Denver will soon get what’s coming to him – he has already shown many childish antics and going for it on fourth down in a blow out will come back and haunt him…and I can’t wait. Karma is a bitch, and that little bitch McDouchebag in donkeyland has alot of it coming his way.

  17. The Coop says: Dec 9, 2009 9:58 PM

While middle fingers seem to be “in” this year, nothing will ever – and I mean EVER – top Bryan Cox’s double guns blazin as he walked onto the field vs. the Bills many years ago.

  18. Route36West says: Dec 9, 2009 9:59 PM

Karmas a be-och isnt it. What makes it even better is not only did he get the score ran up on him like his team did so many times is that the fact that one of his previous coaches was the one who did it to him.
It seems like every member of the 2007 patriots has had some sort of bad karma come their way over the past 2 weeks. The patriots gave up and embarassed their selves against the Saints and now Cassel and vrabel got their come upins’ also ellis hobbs got put on IR(please leave Asante Samuels alone) next is the Broncos and everyone will be tooken care of.

I was there and I can tell you the Broncos weren’t running up the score. That 4th and goal was from about the 9 yard line and Moreno could have had lunch and a cigar on his way into the endzone. I got your karma right here.

  21. Scoop says: Dec 9, 2009 10:41 PM

The same people bitching about Denver running off tackle on 4th and 1 would be bitching if they kicked the layup field goal. Get used to it. McD is gonna coach a lot a butt drubbings before all is said and done.

  22. rx says: Dec 9, 2009 10:46 PM

  23. efangule says: Dec 9, 2009 10:50 PM

“he earned three Super Bowl rings.”

Sorry, but cheating doesn’t count in the whole “earning” process. Stop letting the Patriots get away with this and we’ll stop bringing it up.

Going for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter with a more than comfortable lead just shows that the Broncos are a classless organization with a classless head coach.
I would have flipped them off too.

  29. CynicL1 says: Dec 10, 2009 12:47 AM

It’s not the offenses job to stop scoring it is the opponents defenses job. If they can’t do it they get rolled. Sucks to be the Chiefs ya know?

The fact is that their defense did play well, and Vrabel did earn his ring no matter what you think.
Your personal asterisk won’t keep anyone awake at night with a guilty conscience.
Their near perfect season AFTER all the stuff blew over shows it wasn’t about cheating or a fluke. They were just that good and you hate it.

  32. playitfunky says: Dec 10, 2009 4:23 AM

People forget it was Pioli and the Chiefs who leaked the information to Cutlers agent about McDaniels trying to trade for Cassel.
The extra TD beatdown was the Broncos showing the Chiefs who is boss, and who will be boss in the future. Also it was showing pioli that Mcdaniels isn’t to be pissed off or he will run score up on you.
KC is a punk team, with punk management and has never been a classy organization. They got what they deserved.
If they have any hard feeling they can try and take it out in Mile High, last week of season.

I remember seeing Bryan Cox walking off the field at Buffalo and flipping the fans off with both hands. And spitting at them. Then he said he wanted his fine money to go to only a certian type of charities. Anyone remember that? These anyics are nothing compared to the old school guys.

One day maybe we’ll know what was up with the notion of including Vrabel in the trade with Cassel.
Vrabel is a very pro-union guy, very outspoken about players vs. owners.
Vrabel made a comment to the paper about how can owners be claiming they are not making a profit, when his owner (Kraft) is building a multi-million dollar complex around the stadium.
“Vrabel looks up at the high-end Patriot Place Mall – a place filled with top-dollar restaurants, a wide array of expensive shops, a state-of-the-art movie theater and a buzzing music venue – and wonders where people think the money to build it came from, even though he already knows. It came from his blood and sweat and that of guys just like him.” (I can’t access the rest w/o paying)
This was in November of 2008, he was traded 3 months later.

  37. rockotica says: Dec 10, 2009 9:30 AM

Vrabel should look in the mirror. He’s one of the problems on that D. Besides the game against Washington, he’s proven NE correct in getting rid of him. That said, he’s better than most of the other players.

  38. CaseyInKC says: Dec 10, 2009 9:39 AM

Kudos to Vrabel. Shows that at least someone on our team still has their hearts in the game. Our receivers (well, the ones that aren’t suspended) need to take some notes!

  39. MBone says: Dec 10, 2009 9:58 AM

Serves him right. Vrabel’s a dirty player that got away with cheap shots because he was always seen as a “winner” or a “leader” when he was with the Pats.

  40. magsdad1 says: Dec 10, 2009 10:24 AM

    bbq:
So, what’s more insulting to a player? Running off tackle on a fourth down, kicking a meaningless field goal, or kneeling down to intentionally give up?
Find tape of the game and watch the play dumb ass, the Chiefs gave up on it.

  41. CKL says: Dec 10, 2009 12:34 PM

As a Pats fan I say, hey Vrabel, you should be used to losing to Denver by now. :(

  42. Spokentruth says: Dec 10, 2009 1:45 PM

Oh kick the damn field goal already and quit using the term “chipshot” as a reason to go for it on 4th down so you can run up the score. This is not the BCS so show a little class. Ask the skins about those “chipshot” field goals.
