John Harbaugh can't control Jim Harbaugh on Ravens' sideline

Part of a head coach’s job is controlling the people on his sideline. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh knows that, and that’s why he thinks he’s going to be in trouble with the league office this week for the actions of his brother, Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh.

John acknowledged today that Jim, who was on the Ravens’ sideline Monday night in Green Bay, crossed the line by yelling at the officials during the Ravens’ loss.

We’ve got to get Coach Harbaugh under control, but it’s the other one, right?” John Harbaugh said. “One time, I turned around when we were having the debate with the two-minute time management situation out there that the officials handled a certain way. I look back and there’s Jim there screaming at an official. I was like, ‘You can’t be out here. Back up.’ Have we heard from the league on that one yet? We expect to hear from the league.”

Still, John insists that it’s completely appropriate for him to invite Jim and their father, longtime college coach Jack Harbaugh, to stand on the sidelines during games.

“I want them there,” John Harbaugh said. “They’re coaches.”

But they’re not NFL coaches, so the NFL can’t fine them. And that means that John may get a fine on his family’s behalf.

Can I get a refund for the minute I just spent reading this?

The Baltimore Sun is already saying the NFL said there won’t be any fines. Probably because they knew they deserved to be yelled at.

At least he recognizes that it is a problem. I was shocked that there was no flag thrown for that, considering how flag happy the refs were on Monday.
If you aren’t employed by an NFL team, and you come onto the field of play to argue with an official, there ought to be some form of retribution for that.

Just once I’d love to see a ref turn around and yell back at one of these idiots and tell them to shut the f**k up. I can’t believe how much those guys put up with. They got people in their ear constantly.

Guess he figured the ass whipping he took would have hurt even worse if he did.

lulz. Thats a pretty funny story, actually. Can’t take the coach out of him, even when its not his team.

That guy is a psycho. During the Pats game, he drew a penalty for that same shit at a critical time in the game. So bad.

Great, so what if they are coaches….they still shouldn’t be there……….this is just another example of why I am starting to think that Harbaugh is kinda clueless and was the wrong choice!

I guess that’s what the NFL’s all about.

You all may think this is funny, but; I’m a Raven fan that is sick of Harbungle and all his bungle family. He has ruined this football team.
All he does is press conferences media hype on tv and radio and the team just gets worse. I’d take Billick back in a new york second. What a tool…

It would have been great if Jim had called an audible that resulted in a key interception, and in the post-game press conference John announced that is forbiding Jim from ever calling another audible.
(For those that don’t get it google: Jim Harbaugh audible)

  16. bleedpurpleandblack says: Dec 9, 2009 5:22 PM

If the refs called a good game there would be nothing to scream about. It’s funny to read the unintelligent comments that people post. Sheesh a little common sense goes a long way!! The refs have been terrible all year across the league!!!! They need to be fined when they make bonehead calls. I love how the flags come out 10-15 seconds after a play is over.

I work for Stanford in some capacity, and my first indication that John Harbaugh wasn’t entirely “with it” was the fact that each of his kids’ names begin with a “J.” It’s not really George Foreman-esque, but it’s close.

That’s a lot of success standing on one sideline. I don’t blame him for yelling at Walt Anderson. Besides Ron Winter, he’s the worst official in the NFL.
