After he was fined $30,000 for putting on a poncho and sombrero during Sunday’s game, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco said that he’ll get even crazier with his next touchdown celebration.
And if the league plans to fine him more than $30,000 next time, Ochocinco has a simple message: Bring it on.
“It’s OK,” Ochocinco told reporters today. “They keep jacking them up, I’ll keep jacking up the celebrations.”
Ochocinco said he enjoys post-touchdown celebrations so much that he doesn’t care if they cost him tens of thousands of dollars every time. And he wants the folks in the league office to understand that their fines are no deterrent to his actions.
“I play to have fun,” Ochocinco said. “I don’t play for the dollar amount. Maybe that’s why they take so much money, because they think we play for the money. ... Maybe they’ll get the point, I’m here to have fun. Not for the money.”
Asked if $30,000 to get to wear a poncho and sombrero on the sideline for a few seconds was worth it, Ochocinco answered, “You’re damn right it was.”
Up next for Ochocinco is a showdown with the Minnesota Vikings. And, if he follows through on his promise to incorporate the Vikings’ mascot in a post-touchdown celebration, perhaps a showdown with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
