Ray Rice apologizes to Green Bay

After Monday night’s loss at Lambeau Field, Ravens running back Ray Rice teed off on Green Bay.

“I didn’t see anything special,” Rice said.  “They put us in
the middle of nowhere and it’s not a real exciting place.  Everything about this place is terrible, to be honest with you.”

On Tuesday, Rice apologized.

Rice’s mea culpa came via Twitter:  “As a man I would
like to apologize the fans of green bay you can’t judge a book by it’s
cover and for me to talk about your city was wrong
.”

Nice move by Rice.  He surely was frustrated after a loss that dealt a serious blow to his team’s playoff hopes.  One of the problems with the NFL is that cameras and microphones are usually around at those deflating moments when players are most likely to say something out of character.

Then again, given that the purpose of this site is to write about such moments, I probably shouldn’t call it a “problem.”

I think he should be put in prison. I’m sure he did something in his life to warrant it.

  2. leftdust says: Dec 9, 2009 8:07 AM

Having spent a great deal of time up there, Rice has no business apologizing. GB is a craphole with literally nothing in the entire area except Lambeau. When the mall is the most exciting thing in town other than the team, you are dealing with one sad place on the planet. You would have to pay me 10X what I would take in say Dallas to play in GB. Wretched city.

You can’t judge a book by its cover, but sometimes first impressions are correct. GB is a cesspool, and everybody knows it.

  8. shinsnake says: Dec 9, 2009 8:15 AM

I don’t think I heard in any other media outlet that Ray Rice ripped Green Bay. If that’s the case, the apology is kind of self defeating, bringing attention to comments that not many people knew existed.

  9. Emoney says: Dec 9, 2009 8:15 AM

Apology not accepted. Someone more intelligent than him obviously spoke to him after his idiotic comments and told him to apologize. He meant what he said, and to me, he’s a piece of shit…and a midget.

ray rice must have missed the hooters on holmgren.
really, i do think the packers “mystique” is overblown, and that is probably more what he meant.
lambeau field is treated like some sort of sacred burial grounds in the media, instead of some stadium built in the 50s. it was so not special for so many years, the packers played 3 games per year in milwaukee. sure, once upon a time when most tv’s were black and white, when the littlest person in the room was the remote control, and high def engineer, or at least the person who tried to make the low def as clear as possible…snow squiggles etc, when you watch old tv, remember, most people were watching it on sets not nearly that clear…
thus the myth of lambeau was much about the stories told, mostly by sports writers. we all know how tenuous that connection is, and presumably always was.

  20. Gelardia says: Dec 9, 2009 8:35 AM

Does an apology to fans count when it’s on your own Twitter page? I mean, how many Green Bay fans/residence did he expect to see the apology? If anything, he should have posted on the Packer’s Twitter page (if they have one).

  21. mike says: Dec 9, 2009 8:37 AM

Lets see the visiting team fly’s into the outagamie county airport. The team is then bussed to a hotel in Appleton. Then on gameday the team is bussed to Lambeau field. Im sure he had plenty of time to explore the area. Rushing for only 50 some yards and losing a fumble didnt make his trip enjoyable.

The pace and lifestyle is wonderful. Door County is the Martha’s Vineyard of the Midwest…but only we know it and we like it that way. My wife is from Houston and she too loves it. None of us that know how great the City of Green Bay and the surrounding area is and how great it is to live here, give a crap about your opinions. If you do not like it, please do us all a favor and stay away. The atmoshere is even better with your absence. We don’t care what any of you haters think…about anything….never have, never will. Most major cities that I’ve lived in and visited have had Packer Bars. Denver, Austin, Chicago, San Diego, to name a few.
Can’t say same for Minnesota or Baltimore. No one is moving the GB for the nightlife. It’s a small town that supports a pro team and sells its games out every week, every year. Some of the larger NFL markets can’t even boast that.
    You like apples?

  31. etronsman says: Dec 9, 2009 9:12 AM

I love blanket statements such as “cesspool and everyone knows it” and “miserable” and “craphole with literally nothing”. Have you ever stayed/lived in Green Bay? Or have you only seen shots on TV and base your comments off (1) the weather, and (2) the population?
If you have lived in Green Bay and you hated it, why? Did the entire town do something to you or was the souring due to something in your own life and you attributed it to the city you were living in at the time?
Take some time to talk to people who live there and you will find by and large much friendlier, engaging people than you give them credit for. Having lived there, it’s a great place to live if you want to raise a family and truly feel like you are invested in your professional team, the only major sports team in the town.
And the most ridiculous statement of all “If I’m Goodel (sic) I’m siging off on the papers to move the pack to Toronto, or LA.” That sounds like blatent Vikings bias and, if so, insecurity because that team very well may move to one of those cities. The Vikings can’t even get a new stadium despite a superstar running back and having one of the best records in the league. Oh, and they play in a dome rather than outdoors – real tough.

For everyone whining about the “sacred” treatment Lambeau gets – have any of you actually been there?
The mystique might be overplayed a bit – but I guarantee you that if you come and take a tour and visit the Packer hall of fame (even if you’re a Vikes fan) you will have a much better understanding of why Lambeau gets the treatment it does. It’s a special place. The Packers are the ONLY community owned professional sports franchise – whether you like it or not – that’s something that’s unique and special.
I’ve got a Viking buddy of mine and we stopped in GB on a business trip. He took the Lambeau tour – he LOVED it, but at the end said it made him sad that the Vikings would never have anything to compare to it. Quit bitching at eachother and trying to 1-up eachother. Green Bay is unique – it’s small and doesn’t have a ton of clubs to go out and get smashed at – if you don’t like small towns, you don’t like Green Bay.
Some people on the other hand would do just about anything to get out of their craphole metropolis to move to a small town. Perspective.

  39. sand0 says: Dec 9, 2009 9:47 AM

He is speaking the truth. It is a terrible state and city. There is a reason that Green Bay is held as low as clubs like Browns and Lions when it comes to players and the last places on earth they’d want to play. Browns and Lions are low just because their teams are terrible and in disarray. Green Bay is low because of the state and city. The football organization is overall pretty decent.
Everyone agrees that it is very cute what Green Bay has going on. A quaint frigid little city with their own pro football team that has been going forever.
But when it comes to “would I actually want to live there?” the answer is hell naw from most players. What a nightmare. More people move out of Wisconsin than into it for very good reasons.

There is nothing wrong with what he said, GB is the pitts. He plays in a pretty large city and is from the NYC area so he isnt used to it. That place is a dump and everyone knows it. Give me a break, when the Giants were playing them in the NFC championship in 07, they caught wind seinfeld was manning’s fav show, so those dopes took it off the air so he couldnt watch, and like strahan said, don’t these people in GB realize we carry things w us called dvd players and seinfeld dvd’s? what year are we in.

Its a cute little college stadium but not NFL caliber. The point I was making is rally the troops. Hommies in your case. Join the savethevikes campaign. Do something. 2011 is right around the corner and it takes two years in most cases to build a stadium unless it is a dump.

I have been to Green Bay and it is a hellhole and there is nothing cute or quaint about it.
They should have moved to Milwaukee back in the 1950s before building that cheese bowl stadium.
When I went to Lambeau I saw Packers fans throwing shit at the Bears fans that were there and when the cheesedicks were ready to get their ass kicked the security steps in and ejects the Bears fans while the bumpkins cheer.
    Want to see something funny?
Stand on Michigan Ave here in Chicago on the day of a Bears/Packers game.

I would like to see how many apologies many of you would issue, after being followed around by the media with a microphone stuck in your face, during the course of a workday, and especially after experiencing a mentally depressing situation. For many of us, that would be the boss just told you you can’t take Christmas off and will be expected to be in the office/on the production line.
I can imagine what words of wisdom and forethought would be coming immediately to your mind and out your mouth, before you had time, later, to try and backtrack, when your words are played back for said boss.
“I hate this place. This job sucks. I need to find me something else and quick.”
Ya’ll want that played back to your supervisor? Even though an hour later, or a week later, you know you don’t truly feel that way and are glad for a paycheck and something to do you feel is worthwhile?
Sadly, in this day and age of everyone welding a cellphone with a mic and camera, and the media being everywhere all at once, everyone’s flaws, and moments of despair, are captured and all those “perfect people” are willing to jump all over someone, touting their perfection… until someone captures them in a bad moment.
Rice said what he felt at the moment. He’s human. The game requires emotion. The media capitalized on the emotion he was feeling, at that point and time, and blew it out of proportion, like they are wont to do, to garner headlines and internet hits, to make money.
If I had visited GB, and had a bad experience, and you caught me in the airport, on my way home to the east coast, yeah, I probably would have said some not so flattering remarks about it. If you asked me, after I got home, my comments may be completely different.
Players aren’t actors, or politicians, who’s forte is words, and how to think and pretend you feel different than you do, on your feet, and guard your thoughts. And they should not be held to that standard.
He should never have been made to feel he needed to apologize for being human.

2 to 3 blocks away to the west from Camden Yards is the Inner Harbor where there are multimillion dollar condos, and if you go North you hit sky scrapers. To the South is an industrial complex where they are building a $212.5 million casino and new shopping district in the next two years. To the east is Federal Hill. Fedreal Hill is filled with half-million to million dollar rowhouses filled with yuppies and a ton of great bars .
Sure Baltimore has a tough west side but out of walking distance from the stadiums, harbor and pretty nice east side.

Yes, Michigan Ave sure is scary and intimidating for all of us Packer fans. All those cars and people moving around sure are scary. Except for the fact that most Packer fans that are down there are like me and are from the Milwaukee metro area. I know I have to bring two suits to Chicago when I’m down there on business because I piss my pants everytime I see all those tall buildings. You sound like one of those deadbeat Yankee fans who trashes anyone from a smaller city because you live in the “Big City”. In reality you are probably one of the many out of work dirtbags in Chicago or if employed, work at a Quick-E-Lube or some other dead end job. But hey, what would I know, I’m just a bumpkin because Milwaukee has a smaller population than your city. Nice football team in Chicago this year.

Green Bay is a love it or hate it town. I love it, because I grew up in a small town and when I go there I feel like I am in a big small town. When i go into the local bars I feel welcome like it’s my neighborhood bar. Big cities don’t impress me much and I have been to just about every one of them in this country because of my job. Sure most NFL players would probably rather be in Miami or some other city, but they get paid pretty well to play in Green bay too, so most of them don’t complain.

I grew up in Philly/Camden area but got tired of all the crime and other BS, so I moved to a less populated farming town in south Jersey. It was a great move and I love it here. The people of GB have different taste then those of east coast cities. But they clearly love there city other wise they wouldn’t be defending it so much. If your happy there then I say to hell with what someone else thinks.
To the guy who called R.Rice a bum you must not whatch him very often. He is having a very good season with 875 yards rushing, 599 rec yards and 7 TDs. All that with 4 games still to play. You also say Favre sucks, and thats just nonsense. He lead many packer teams that other wise sucked to the playoffs almost every year. The guy is a great QB and clearly wasn’t done. If you had a job that you loved would you let someone tell you when your finished? I know I wouldn’t even if it meant going to the rival. You don’t know crap about football Favresux and you need to close your pie hole because you don’t know what your talking about it. You should be thankful that you had Favre as long as you did.

It’s all about lifestyle. Many NFL players are young (under 30) rich, and are minorities. Why would GB appeal to them? But if you’re a family man with a wife kids, etc… it may be your cup of tea. Personally I enjoy going to the beach, beautiful women, warm weather, high end dept. store’s, the hottest restaurants, and the hottest nightclubs. But down the road when I’m 50-60 I’ll probably want to live in a place like GB.

Packers do not need the Vikings rivalry as much as you think. Turns out we have one of the most storied rivalries in all of sports with the team just south of us. The Viking/Packer rivalry has not become a big rivalry until the past 10-15 y ears. In the late 90s the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were a big rival of the Packers and after they switched divisions, everything seemed to work out fine.

Then retired again and then asked for his release of the remaining two years of his contract, somehow got his release (the most unbelievable thing about this whole ordeal), and then finagled his way to Minnesota after missing all of their camps? Are you that type of person with that type of character?

    @PervyHarvin,
Since school is cancelled in most area’s of MN today that probably frees up a lot of time for you to post rampant, idiotic statements all day.
Nothing is going to thrill me more that when the Vikings ship out to LA, if you think that gophers stadium is going to provide enough revenue in the interim to keep your team around, you are lying to yourself. There is no way that ticket sales can bring in enough money to support the football operations without making them 5x the current price, and when ticket sales are as slow as they are, you will never sell out a game.
I hate the Vikings and their ignorant, bandwagon fans more than I will ever enjoy our rivalry, and I will volunteer to pack up the locker rooms and pop that hideous ass bubble downtown as soon as they agree to relocate. This state doesn’t deserve any professional sports teams, and it will bring me great joy when your forced to cheer for a team entirely across the country, or cheer for the local, beloved packers.

I hate GB, but Baltimore has to be the BIGGEST cesspool in the planet. Having grew up and GB I can honestly say it’s a pretty nice place to live. I moved to Milwaukee and then Chicago shortly after. The slow pace lifestyle isn’t really my scene as I’m in my late 20′s and would probably never move back there. But to say that it’s a cess poll and that everyone is fat is just plain rediculous. Honestly after living in Chicago the people look exactly the same but with a my sh*t don’t stink attitudes.
And for the people who complain about political correctness and say Rice shouldn’t have to apologize obviously have no idea how things work as far as public preception goes. When you’re on a professional football team getting paid a lot of money because you’re a public figure then you need to be politically correct to best represent your product. We all know he said what he did because he was upset and you have to give him credit for apologizing.
Also the Vikings moving to LA is pretty much a done deal. Do you really think they are building that 75k seat stadium because some other team that can’t sell out a home playoff game is moving there? Also as mentioned the idea of the Vikings playing at the UofM stadium is rediculous. Enjoy the last few years of the franchise. Personally I will miss them being so close. Makes for a great rivalry since the Bears are almost always terrible when the Packers are doing well and vise versa.

And then a trade was all worked out with Tampa, with a better compensation package than the Jets deal, but Thompson saw Tampa on the schedule, shat himself, then shipped Favre to the Jets so Favre couldn’t destroy his Packers that year. Jon Gruden even said that Favre to Tampa was a done deal, Ted just couldn’t face his fear of Favre beating him. After the 2 beat downs this year, we all know why.
MM did declare an “open competition” on August 4th, then they don’t allow him to practice on the 5th, and he’s traded on the 6th. This is all after the $25 million bribe attempt, to try to keep him away.

    a) There are no museums,aquariums,art gallaries,etc
    b) The east side is a aging pit of stagnant growth.
    c) Downtown is nothing.
    d) local am-fm radio sucks.
    e) HATE GREEN BAY!!! The public schools absolutely suck!
    f) I grew up in Green Bay and after all these years little has changed. The airport is a joke.
    g) The general consenses of the population is narrow minded.
    h) The city council cannot get things done and never could.
    i) Forty years ago a sports writer from Chicago wrote you can’t even get a cup of coffee in downtown Green Bay on Sunday. That is still correct.
    j) Downtown is so boring that its embarassing. Bars, thats it. They don’t seem to have much creativity here.
    k) Their solution is always a new bar.
    l) As a public transportation rider, I will agree that the service does suck.
    m) I see a city growing but the backward historians are fighting to keep the stuffy 100 year old era alive.
So let’s review: Poor schools, boring restaurants, unsuitable public transportation, no culture, lack of incentive to improve.
But they have the Packers. And lots of bars.

For someone in MN or Detroit to say thier cities are any better than GB (besides being bigger), they are hypocrites.
Green Bay has never claimed to be some holy ground. It is a college type town with a pro team… it has never been advertised as any more or any less.
Ray Rice was there a total of 2 days. He stayed in a crappy motel (which visiting teams pick since all the GB motels are full, it has always been crappy), rode to Lambeau, got dressed, played football, and got his ass kicked and showed how truley average he is. He was frustrated, and being a young dumb kid who knows nothing yet, spouted off…

Your account if so factually incorrect (again) I dont even know where to start. Frankly I’m sick of it all anyway. But yes Favre was asked to compete for the job in the Van Susteren interview and he answered “Why?” Then in those meetings when he arrived in Green Bay he was bitter and the organization thought he wasnt in the right mindset to play in Green bay given all that transpired. Thats verbatim.
Youre Tampa vs New York thing is ridiculous. Yes, from what I have heard the Tampa deal was pretty much done only because Tampa was the only serious bidders until the last minute (after Gruden went to bed) when the Jets came into the picture and favre finally spoke to Tannenbaum. For you to suggest that Thompson had a done deal with Tampa not realizing that they played them until the deal was almost complete is borderline insanity and I am very embarrased for you as are many others. You really think Thompson did not know Tampa was on the schedule until after the deal was made??? I am just so embarrased for you for that. You are a Favre fan. So am I. To say Thompson didn’t want to get rid of Favre is the single most ignorant statement ever made. His first move as GM was to draft Favre’s replacement. And it snowballed from there.
And Super, New York was in the picture the whole time, it was always NY and Tampa. Tampa made the better offer, but Honest Ted reneged at the last minute and sent Favre to a terrible team out of spite. Here’s a link to an article written 5 days before the trade, referencing the Bucs and Jets as the teams talking trade.
    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post/Favre-trade-talks-will-heat-up-once-he-arrives-i?urn=nfl,97894
At Favre’s initial comeback press conference, he came out and said that all he expected a chance to compete for the job. But as we all know, Murphy had already “crossed the Rubicon,” so there was never going to be any fair chance. And just because Van Susteren asked him to compete for the job doesn’t mean that the Packer brass did.
And if the 3 stooges were serious about letting Favre come back, then why the $25 million bribe?

No, I don’t think TT didn’t know Tampa was on the schedule, but I do believe he took less compensation to avoid trading him to a team they would face that year. But glad to see you have reverted to the “knowbody knows nothin’ but the guys in the know” routine when you can’t logically debate something. All of the things I referenced were all out in the open; Favre’s press conference, the bribe, the Rubicon, drafting Rodgers. I’m not basing my judgments on what happened behind closed doors, that would be you and your twin Scheftersen.
And for you, “dipshit” (classy) there were a lot of very good players still on the board when TT drafted Rodgers, and they could have contributed immediately. Obviously what Rice said was dumb but you cant really judge his response unless you know exactly what he was asked.
I mean if the Reporter asked him something like “Do you think playing at Lambeau field was a big reason why your team didnt play so well tonight”. What would you expect the man to say to something like that? Especially right after a loss that could possibly knock his team out of the playoffs.
Now we dont know if the reporter asked him something like that or not but thats my point we dont know so we cant really judge his reaction. Im sure Rice didnt just come out and say something like that without being provoked in some way.
Now obviously it wasnt smart to say thats why he appologized but I can see why he would say something like that. We all know how Packers media and fans love to bring up the “Frozen Tundra” and how hard they think it is to play their so I wouldnt be schocked if he was asked a question like that that pissed him off.

  127. Majik Man says: Dec 9, 2009 8:38 PM

Super and Adam (and any other Pack fan)
Please take a look at Ruvell100′s above post. People like him are why each and everyone of you should be embarrassed to be Packer fans. He can barely control his adolescent rage for 2 paragraphs before going off on some homophobe rant because he is obviously still very bitter, and perhaps sexually frustrated, over the loss of Favre and his recent success.
And to answer your question, Ruvell, I never said Rodgers was a bad player. Although he has a penchant for holding on to the ball way too long, and often times struggles to read blitzes, he definitely has performed pretty well, and has a lot of potential. But when he was drafted, the Packers could have used some immediate help, someone like Luis Castillo, or Lofa Tatupu. Instead, Thompson ripped the team apart, drafted Rodgers to pay him to ride the pine, and fell to 4-12. He drafted his QB of the future, when he already had him in Favre.
Look at it this way, how do you think Colts fans would react if a new GM took over next year and drafted Sam Bradford in the first round because he slid down the board to them? How do you think Manning would react? They would probably be pissed, and say it was a bad decision, just like a lot of Packer fans were in ’05. I thought they would have taken Marlin Jackson or Castillo.
And before saying this comparison is ridiculous, stop and think about it. Favre was 35 when Rodgers was drafted, and the Packers had just won their division. Manning will be 34 by draft time, and will be returning with a division winning team.

  128. cheddar is beddar says: Dec 9, 2009 8:51 PM

    Majik,
The difference with the Colts and Manning is that Manning isn’t waffling about retirement year after year. That is what you keep forgetting. Forget for a second that Favre did come back after all those off-seasons of wavering; the reason TT drafted Rodgers in the first place was because Favre kept handcuffing the Pack with his on-again off-again contemplations. He wouldn’t give the Pack an answer before the draft year after year, so the Pack had to plan either way. That move by TT makes complete sense in any way, shape, or form.

  129. Ruvell100 says: Dec 9, 2009 8:55 PM

Huge difference. The Colts would be 4 years removed from a Super Bowl Championship and have won 21 consecutive regular season games. The Pack were 9 years removed, missed the playoffs twice and were on a run of early playoff exits. They were in salary cap hell, they were old, and they had backloaded contracts paying $8-$9Million to aging guards.
The only thing they had was a good D. 6th in the league in YPG and 9th in PPG in ’05. But they went 4-12 for some reason….oh, injuries to Dookie, Ahman and Javon Walker. That was the ONLY reason.
Sorry Majik, you mistook me. I make no apologies and I’m not bitter that Brett is gone. I’m bitter because I made excuses for his HORRIFIC play in big games every single season. When you let FACTS get in the way of your idolization and excuse-making, you start to appreciate a young, up-and coming 8-4 team, a tough decision by a GM that is flawed, but pretty saavy in many ways and also realize that Favre never deserved the God worship he got for so long.

    Peyton Manning’s last 4 years
(2009 numbers projected based on first 12 games)
    121 TD’s
    17,352 yards
    66.8 comp. %
    98.9 rating
    Favre stats 2001-2004
    (4 years before Rodgers drafted)
    121 TD’s
    15,028 yards
    63.3 comp %
    90.6 rating
Pretty comparable numbers. And you make it seem as if the Packers were floundering. The 4 prior years the Packers had a combined 44-20 record, and had 2 playoff wins in that span. The Colts haven’t won a playoff game since their Super Bowl. Like I said before, very similar situations.
And you can’t blame a losing season to injuries. The Pats lost their MVP QB last year, and still went 11-5. I think he’s a little more important than Javon Walker and Ahman Green.

That is the most embarrasing thing about this!! Your screen name could never win shit! Always hurt. Anyway Ruvell summed up the mess that Thompson inherited when hired. If you believe that hiring Thompson before the 2005 season had anything to do with 4-12 then you are a football fool. The stage was set for that by Sherman. The team was everything that Ruvell said. 4-12 was inevitable and Ted has cleaned it up and has this team making another playoff push. 2007′s team was not as good as their record. They got every bounce. They were fortunate that Dallas lost to New York and got the NFC title game at home. Everything went there way. Last year, nothing went their way. This years team may be a game or two better then their current record. there is alot of season left. They are headed in teh right direction. They could finish 8-8 or 12-4 and as a fellow know nothing I wont predict either way. I just see how this team is playing (not good against the ravens) and have a good feeling of where they are heading because they are able to overcome sooooo much crap that is self induced. It really is a true testament to their talent. McCarthy is still on the hotseat in my opinion. If they could put 4 quarters together look out. You’re right, that 2007 season was a fluke. A 3 point overtime loss to the eventual Super Bowl champs, man what an awful Packers team that was. It was all luck, and had nothing at all to do with Favre playing lights out that year.
And yes, Sherman takes part of the blame, but Thompson deserves the majority for 4-12. He ripped the team apart, sending multiple starters packing. He also used his 1st round pick on a player who he knew wouldn’t see the field for years. He had every intention of blowing that team up, and building it his way, which included ousting Favre. Anyone who can’t see this isn’t a only football fool, they’re a complete and utter failure at life.
And if this still isn’t sinking in, and you still think Thompson had no part of 4-12, then who was responsible for 6-10? Is that on Sherman too?
As for Favre stinking up the playoffs this decade, apparently you only saw one play of the 2007 playoffs. Favre threw for 400+ yards, 5 TDs against 2 INTs in 2 games. And the overtime pick never should have been, if Manboobs McCarthy could make an adjustment and put someone on Plaxico, there would have been no OT. But everyone blames Favre for that loss instead of the piss poor coaching by the guy who was hand picked by your savior and man crush Thompson.

The Packers last four drives against the Giants in 07…with the ball and a chance to win…went for 0,4,7, and 0 yards. Favre went 4-10 with 2 picks. Keep it coming, buddy. Coaching, Plaxico, Ryan Grant, recievers…anything else you would like to blame it on?

If you want to talk numbers, go check the record books and see “Favre” in the top spot in every category.
As for logic, how’s this? Favre led Packers in 2007 finish 13-3. Favreless Packers, with the same exact team returning minus Corey Williams, go 6-10. The NFL is a win now league, not a win 5 years from now league, yet you still think letting Favre go was the right choice, and defend it by pointing out a bad half of a quarter he played.
Also, by you logic, Rodgers must suck too, he threw 2 picks in the 4th quarter against Tampa. Time to get rid of him, right? What a collapse, he must be washed up. Time to trade him to the Jets and move on with Flynn. Going to have to cross the Rubicon again.
You call me an emotion based thinker, yet you blindly follow a team led by an arrogant prick more concerned about his ego than winning. Deep down you know that’s how Ted is, but you refuse to admit it because you’re emotionally attached to the team. Your love for the Packers has blinded you from seeing what really happened. Are you really so stupid to truly believe BeerCheese and I are the same person? He actually still likes the Packers, I can’t stand them. We just both happen to have a mutual disdain for you. I find it hard to believe this is the first time you’ve encountered multiple people who think you’re an ass. Just because you are so incredibly insecure as to use multiple screen names, doesn’t mean anyone else does. Get a life.

  156. Supersuckers says: Dec 10, 2009 11:52 AM

    Majik,
Wow. your last paragraph is just…wow. How do you know Thompson cares more about his ego then winning and not Mark Murphy? Talk about arrogance!! To think you know more about Thompsons motives then the teams president who would surely shit can the guy if it were true just makes you look dumb. Really really really dumb. Really dumb. Really. After I finish up lunch upstairs with mom(meatloaf) I will come back down to see what emotionally charged asshat comment is next.

Following one organization through thick and thin is kind of the POINT of being a good fan.
Following another man through thick and thin as a grown man is PATHETIC. I feel bad for you. Honestly.
And 8-8, 9-7 or 10-6 never bothered you a bit when Wrangler Man was under center. Now 8-4 is not up to your standards?
And don’t even pretend that 13-3 and 6-10 were simply because of one man. This is the NFL. Any given Sunday. Look at the Titans, Bengals, Steelers, Ravens, etc.
I have work to do. Please don’t make me bitch-slap you again.

Many of you clearly haven’t, cause if you have experienced more than one place, you’d see that you basically (with some exceptions) end up doing the same shit no matter where you go. You guys are spending your time trashing a town in Wisconsin. You must live in a spectacularly exciting place.

Majik I can cleary see you’re still butthurt about BF retiring from the packers. You actually said TT made the wrong decision by drafting Rodgers and not someone who could help the team right away? Where would we be at then? BF would still be on the team but everyone knows once he got older he can’t play in cold weather or December for that matter. If you would like me to bust out stats I will but I think you know. We would still be a good team yes but when BF had his normal December collapse and then retire maybe this year maybe next…he wouldn’t let us know until a week before the regular season start…we’d have Matt Flynn or some other rookie as a startin QB. I’m glad the way things panned out….we have a QB thats good now and will continue to be good for years to come rather than someone who would be good now but the future uncertain.

No i don’t think you and Beer Cheese are the same person (though I cannot be positive of course) you just have the same emotionally based non long term thinking views and attitudes. You actually jumped ship. Which in my know nothing opinion makes you a worse football fan then him. I am sorry that you think I am an ass. But I do not care. i do not personally insult people. You have. So that probably would make you the insecure one wouldn’t you agree? I am not without my insecurities. But rest assured majik, none of them are on this silly little website. Hypocritical much?
Same with this it’s all favre’s fault for “his collapses”, yet 1 guy “doesn’t make a difference “in going from 13-3 to 6-10?
This is what i mean about debating a packer fan, you just keep changing the parameters of the argument.
    You want it both ways.

Props for the Wedding Crashers reference.
As for TT, it’s pretty clear his ego is bigger than his desire to win. Otherwise, Favre would be in Green & Gold, and 6-10 never would have been. As for Murphy, he is the genius who compared this to “crossing the Rubicon,” so anything idiotic out of him should come as no surprise. Now peace out, Knight elf mohawk, get back to the Craft.
    Ruvell,

If favre wanted to be in Green and Yellow he still could be. Holding a organization hostage every off season since 2003 became unacceptable and they needed to prepare in case he said he was done. Which he did anyway in 2008 offseason. No way would I put up with that. But I am a know nothing (so are you but worse). If I actually knew something I would be employed by a NFL team. I just can’t understand people still saying they wish BF was the QB. I would completely understand if we had a shitty QB etc….but it looks like, by all accounts from all of the talking heads, we have a QB of the future. Wishing BF was still the QB might be good for one year or so until it gets cold, as usual, and again I can easily backup that fact. But the fact of the matter is they moved on and it worked for the best for both parties. BF gets to play in a dome where he is best suited for playing in the warm with a very good team around him, having a great year, and packers have a QB of the future that should be good for years to come. Saying that we don’t know if “Karen” will be good is rediculous simply b/c no one can predict anything but based on facts it sure looks like it. It’s like saying the packers would have not gone 6-10 if BF would have come back. It’s all speculation. BTW there is simply NO NEED to try and interject politics in any way shape or form on this blog. Also the name calling is a bit childish on both sides, really.

Baltimore is terrible. There are some spots that are nice yes….But as a whole?? It is terrible.
That city has more murders per capita than most metro areas in the country. Fact is, if you can find parking, you do not walk around more than 4 blocks from your car unless you know exactly where you are going, 1 wrong turn and you are likely to be in the middle of a drug ring, or will hear some sorts of gun shots.
Not safe at all, you even have to be aware that Michael Phelps might be ripping bong hits and drinking vodka then get behind the wheel of his $100,000.00 car and try to run people over.

So that makes it hard to get rid of it, but you know you should, the main problem is that you can’t. Because your just too broke, and cant afford another payment.
Its hard enough trying to put gas and oil in the piece of crap!

I live in Twin Cities. Love it. But fact is, the entire midwest is flyover country. Always will be viewed as such. The only city that gets any love is Chicago, which is a great town. So Green Bay people need to calm down and realize that if the Pack wasn’t there, they would have a city like Topeka or Baton Rouge. Towns people know, but not known for anything. At least the Twin Cities has Fortune 500 companies as well as other pro sports teams, along with buildings more than 5 stories tall. God, I hate Green Bay.

lambeau field is treated like some sort of sacred burial grounds in the media, instead of some stadium built in the 50s.”
    @fellasheowed:
It did strike me as strange the way the MNF crew fawned over Lambeau. Don’t get me wrong. There is something likable about the Lambeau legend. In an age where Jerry Jones builds a billion-dollar spaceship to play in and everything in the NFL, from skyboxes to jerseys to beers to parking spots, are ghastly overpriced by a factor of three, it’s easy to love the idea of a simplier time and place still surviving. We all like the idea of fans “owning” the team and keeping the corporate bullshit locked out.
Face it, although the competition and skill levels are better today, everything else in pro football sucks compared in 1958. Well okay, the HD scoreboards are nice, and that yellow first-down line on TV is cool, too. But it is kind of pathetic in NFL terms that a 50-year-old stadium qualifies as an ancient relic we need to worship. It’s not even that old compared to MLB, for instance.
There isn’t much to love about PackerLand other than the IDEA it represents.
    # Gelardia says: December 9, 2009 8:35 AM
Does an apology to fans count when it’s on your own Twitter page? I mean, how many Green Bay fans/residence did he expect to see the apology?
A statement on Twitter is just as prominent a stage, I bet, as the stage he was standing on when he made the original comments.
As Florio implied, Rice was probably minding his own business when someone shoved a mic in his face and asked him how great Lambeau is. Once the local scribes got a hold of his response, they paraded it in the streets to lure the populus out of their homes with torches and pitchforks.
The number of people who heard Rice’s original statement probably could have fit in a broom closet. So a Twitter-based response is no worse, and will get just as much publicity.

I have an absolute BLAST when im there. Too bad hes too ignorant to realize the great history and tradition and UNIQUENESS of a 100,000 person TOWN having an NFL team and supporting it for 90 years unlike some huge cities that ditch at the first sign of suckiness. I have met some of the nicest most fun people ive ever met there and i love going. Its not their fault they love their team and live in a tiny town by NFL standards. Id go live there before i ever stepped foot in baltimore again so i dont know what the hell hes talking about. what really stings the most about his comments is that it could influence free agents and hurt a team already so disadvantaged in not having a billionaire owner to save it. Thanks Ray. Great game monday night by the way!

    First off,
GoBrowns19, You’re thinking of Ray LEWIS, not Ray Rice.
    Second,
IF/When the Vikings get a new stadium, we WILL go to TCF and share it with the Gophers until it’s completed, TCF was designed to ADD 30,000 seats (for the vikings)….. so for the Packer fans 45,000 + 30,000 = 75,000 seats. May not sell out every game, but that would certainly cover revenue without making the tickets “5x the current price”.

  192. Crazydiamond says: Dec 12, 2009 8:24 AM

Why are there so many packer fans that want the Vikings to move to LA? Breaks up a good rivalry. Is it just that they enjoy anything bad happening to the Vikings? I don’t understand that.

  193. Ruvell100 says: Dec 12, 2009 11:00 AM

@Crazydiamond- I don’t think any Packer fans really want the Vikings to move and destroy that rivalry. But here is an example of why it would be fitting.
When I was in college and the T-Wolves had KG and Cassell and were making their runs in the playoffs, upper deck tickets were $35 and lower were in the $80′s. Couldn’t buy ‘em without scalping. They were packed every night. Billboards all over the city with KG MVP on them. T-Wolves crazy town.
5 years later, with a young team and an exciting brand of ball, they are offering season ticket packages starting at 5 bucks a game. I went the other night…because I got 15th row for free. I was walking through the IDS Center and Coordinated Business Systems was giving them away. I bet there wasn’t 3,000 people there.
You don’t that kind of reputation for being fair weather and bandwagon fans unless there is truth to it. These people can’t support a team. It took the North Stars leaving to get them to sell out the Wild in the “State of Hockey.”

I live in a not-far-away tourist area now filled with residents formerly from large cities who literally couldn’t leave your “paradises” fast enough. So one person’s craphole is another person’s nirvana.
As an example, part of Baltimore should be declared a third-world nation. That doesn’t exist in Green Bay. Enough of that.
In the months of May through October, I challenge anyone to find better weather than exists in the Upper Midwest. It isn’t a bad place to live if you don’t care about all that big city garbage. The coastline around Green Bay is very nice, and I’ve seen both coasts.
A national network anchor I spoke to one time said she always liked the Midwest because she felt it was one of the few places where she felt America was still solid.
So please, if you enjoy where you live, great. But don’t say Green Bay is craphole just because it isn’t your cup of tea.
It is the beginnings of the sport you enjoy, a tradition in a country where “long-term” is considered something from last week. It’s a time when sport meant more than how much money you can yank from the fans and neighbors matter. The Packers have stayed important in an era of big-shots and money…as evidenced by the liklihood that WE’LL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS AND THE COWBOYS(and Ravesn) PROBABLY WON’T.
Have a wonderful day unless you’ve made other plans.

I think it’s pretty sad that you have a bunch of adults here that have forgotten what the artical was about. Of course everyone is going to think their city is better that was not the point. There was no need for him to apolgize if that’s what he thinks. There are places in this country that people don’t like oh-well. All that matters is whats on the score board at the end of the game.

Come on people. let’s be honest. Is there one among us who would vote Green Bay as a vacation or visitors paradise? Football tradition aside, it is a standing joke on many TV game shows that ” 1st prize is an all expenses paid trip to Green Bay for a week , and 2nd prize is an all expenses paid trip to in Green Bay for two weeks”.
    Go figure!

What a great half ass apology! Can’t judge a book by its cover? meaning even though GB looks and seems like a s***hole on the outside, maybe it’s really not, but he hasn’t properly investigated yet.
And I’m sure these cheese eating dips**** feel satisfied now because they’re too dim to know they’re still being insulted.
From 1992-2007, no one ever made comments like this about Green Bay. I wonder what changed …..
Green Bay, you reap what you sow. Maybe your jackass mayor shouldn’t have dedicated a city wide holiday to bag on Brett Favre, and you wouldn’t have NFL players pissing on your city. Shame on you

  210. radioboy20010 says: Dec 18, 2009 8:37 PM

Oh, I see. Brent Gump(er, Brett Favre) suddenly made Green Bay wonderful! And those evil folks on the Packers sent your boyhood hero away!
    WAAAAAAA!
It really doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of the town, when it comes down to it. Those of us who live here enjoy it, and the rest of you can go say prayers to your Brett Favre poster above your beds each night.
Brent Gump: NFL Hall of Fame 2015. Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame 2075.
Brent as in: “We’ll never forget you, Brent”
Gump: as the southern idiot who happened to fall in the right place all the time and who developed a legion of mindless followers who waited on his every gutteral noise.

Ray Rice’s comments have nothing to do with Brett Favre, life still goes on for the Packers in GB, and it will be going on longer than any of us will be alive.
Rice is young and ignorant enough to think the Ravens will someday win it all with him. Well Ed Reed & Ray Lewis are on the wrongside of their primes and Joe Flacco isn’t lighting anybody up anymore this season.
Rice will feel truly sorry for his comments when he gets to 30 and is in a contract year and wants to go to a contender. He will look around at the contenders and see GB with a winning franchise and plenty of money to spend, but they won’t be throwing him a bone.

i went to rutgers when ray rice was the biggest man on campus.
he’s classy. listen to the man for more than one sentence and then say he’s a thug or a primadonna and what not.

  213. BK5931 says: Dec 21, 2009 10:53 AM

He is like 5’9″ and he was the biggest man on campus? Is New Jersey filled with little people?
Maybe he should look at the awesomeness that is MTV’s Jersey Shore before he insults GB and calls it a shit hole.

That could quite possibly be the most ignorant thing I’ve ever read…You are a complete moron and who ever gave you access to the computer to communicate with the world should be put in prison. You have no life and are as dumb as a rock. Please stop commenting on this site because no one likes you or wants to read your worthless comments.
    Thanks and good day.

Maybe I am missing something here. I have lived near both Green Bay and Baltimore over the years and found:
Green Bay has a nice lake for inexpensive boating and fishing, a casino, every restaurant you would like to be at with very reasonable prices with excellent food, cheap golf courses, low crime rate, excellent schools, nice people, not very crowded and a professional football team that has won 12 championships. Professional Basketball and Baseball are an 1:45 min drive.
Baltimore has no real fishing or boating opportunities without serious cash, no casino (maybe they have one now), expensive restaurants with decent food, expensive golf courses, high crime rate, poor school system, rude people, is very crowded and a professional baseball that nobody seems to care about and professional football team that has won 1 championship.
No comparison. Loser Ray Rice. Spend some time there before you rip a place. Wait, actually don’t spend time there, your too big of a jerk.

  221. BK5931 says: Jan 5, 2010 11:33 AM

Keep in mind, this is also their second football team, couldn’t keep their first one.
