Harvin misses another practice with migraines

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin has missed his second consecutive practice because of the migraine headaches that have affected him for most of his life.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Harvin saw a doctor on Thursday and then went home.

Migraines have forced Harvin to miss practice several times this season, but he has yet to miss a game, and he’s been one of the Vikings’ top offensive playmakers and one of the league’s best rookies.

After sitting out practice yesterday, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was limited in practice today with foot and ankle injuries.

Anyone with migraines… or anyone who knows someone with them… will attest to how damn painful and debilitating they can be. Harvin isn’t acting or whining…

  2. jeremiah says: Dec 10, 2009 5:24 PM

how convenient that the kid only misses practice….i am sure that migranes are a real sumnabyeatch, and that if he needed to he might play through them in a game. but it has never looked in a game that he has any syptoms of anything(other than a few big hits)….but it’s always something with this kid.

  3. nickstanley says: Dec 10, 2009 5:25 PM

Can you imagine what this kid could do at 100%. SICK. Vikes will probably start benching players soon anyway

  4. cusoman says: Dec 10, 2009 5:31 PM

When this problem has affected him his whole life, exactly how is it news when it happens again?

  5. footballrulz says: Dec 10, 2009 5:33 PM

Why don’t you guys just make a template with this post and just throw it out there every week. Percy gets migraines–we know. Wanna bet on whether he plays this weekend?
If AD is limited in practice that means he’ll be playing on Sunday.
    How’s Hutch?

  6. PervyHarvin says: Dec 10, 2009 5:33 PM

No big deal,Percy will play and play well as usual. The real story will be how many PMS’ing Packer fans like Bob,Jimmy,Emoney and FireTed will be in here bashing Percy with lame bong jokes and such. How many times do we have to flush to get rid of you?

  7. lebowski says: Dec 10, 2009 5:35 PM

Scary how good this kid could be if he didn’t have these health issues. If I were him, I’d be smokin’ some medicine too.

  8. Big_McLargeHuge says: Dec 10, 2009 5:35 PM

Strange, maybe in the offseason this guy can visit a specialist. Migraines aren’t only physical painful but can distort perception and signify deeper issues.
However, Perc’s play has been blowing out my competition in FF. Now I’m stuck in a Catch Bill Polian… the first round bye.

  9. R.Babe says: Dec 10, 2009 5:47 PM

What’s that noise? Hmm, must be the sound of the Minnesota Vikings’ Super-Bowl-train derailing before it even gets out of the station.
Better put your ear plugs in – the thunder of Vikings fans jumping off en masse will be deafening.
Next stop: Los Angeles. Ding ding ding!

  10. Slappy says: Dec 10, 2009 5:48 PM

I’m sure Jonathan Joseph, Leon Hall or Chris Crocker will make sure Percy Harvin has some headaches after the game Sunday as well

  11. Bob Nelson says: Dec 10, 2009 5:49 PM

Because of the Williams lawsuit resisting the NFL’s anti-steroid rules and the drug testing laws of Minnesota, the NFL is going very easy on Harvin who is in the “enhanced testing” level of the NFL’s substance abuse program.
Once the lawsuit is finally thrown out, the NFL will take disciplinary action against Harvin who seems to miss a lot of practice around the time the testers for the NFL show up to obtain his urine sample.
If the Whizzinator was still on the market he could try beat the test instead of avoiding it.

  12. leatherneck says: Dec 10, 2009 5:50 PM

To everyone and anyone who has something bad to say about Percy Harvin: get off it. He’s a good kid who is dealing with the challenges that life has thrown him. I’m glad he’s on the Vikings.

  13. MNBV says: Dec 10, 2009 5:51 PM

Could this possibly be a side effect of a concussions?

  14. mike says: Dec 10, 2009 5:55 PM

Challenges? Do I get high before my job interview? I think after what we saw last sunday night these guys need all the practice they can get.

  15. NinerNation says: Dec 10, 2009 5:55 PM

If he has an actual Migraine on game day, then he cannot play. They are completely debilitating, and any noise, no matter how slight, makes you want to vomit.
For all of you who think you have migraines…ask yourself if you see flashes before your headache sets in…if you do, then you have them, if you don’t…you don’t.

  16. chickenfootishunglikeachicken says: Dec 10, 2009 5:57 PM

maybe there is a reason the kid was smokin the rope back in college (and right before the combine). i doubt he will miss any games though, knowing that if he does, favre will be on his case about it and tell him something like “i didn’t need him anyways, we will play with the guys that want to play” like he has always done.

  17. zeakman says: Dec 10, 2009 5:57 PM

If there is anyone that should be paranoid about concussions it is Percy. With recurrent migraines one brain stem rattling could be career-threatening if it was bad enough. This scares me especially if they are chronic.

    Bob Nelson,
Do you really believe that you can avoid an NFL drug test by missing practice???? How stupid are you man?
The kid made a mistake by smoking before the combine but in my opinion if you don’t at least try smoking pot when you are in college there is something wrong with you.
You really need to get a life man. Your comments do not even make and damn sense and just make you look like a moron. Maybe you are the type that gets off on that type of thing though.

If the Vikings lose to the Bengals this Sunday and the Cardinals beat the Niners on Monday night, the Vikings will only have a one game lead over the Cardinals for the #2 seed in the playoffs. And the Cardinals own the tie-breaker. If this happens, how can the Vikings afford to start resting players?
Too bad about the Migraines. Harvin has some good moves.

    Pervy,
Let me start by saying that I’m a vikings fan and I don’t necessarily disagree with most of your posts, but Jesus Christ man, what the f*ck do you do all day? (Thats a rhetorical question. Don’t answer because I don’t care) I’ll admit that I read pft (and often the comments) pretty regularly, but EVERY single article that has a hint of relation to the packers or vikings you have at least 10-20 comments. The same can be said for about 10-15 other people, but you by far appear to be the biggest loser (Is anyone really a “winner” when they spend a significant amount of time arguing with random other losers over the internet? The answer is no. Do you guys not have any friends to argue football with?).
Although everything he writes might be the most packer-baised and homer comment in the entire thread, Bob Nelson is probably the smartest of all you losers. He makes his one dumb comment per article (which may be completely intended to get everyone worked up) and then doesn’t comment again. And you guys wonder why pft has become Vikng’s football talk since the vikings signed Brett. Florio probably gets 1000 hits from each of you per article just anxiously refreshing your browser, waiting to talk smack to a random person of the internet. Clearly the only winner here is Florio, which is sad because while he’s not quite a hack, I don’t think anyone values his opinion nearly as much (if at all) as some other analysts/ experts.

  28. durno99 says: Dec 10, 2009 6:55 PM

    Hey SF Saints fan………..
You are working with a lot of ifs in your comment. Well, if you would have lost to the lowly Rams and Redskins we would be ahead of you in the seeding. I would rather have a weakness exposed now rather than later. The Saints are good but not unbeatable. I think I would worry about my team rather than if and when the Vikings might rest theirs.

  29. Valhalla says: Dec 10, 2009 6:55 PM

    Dear Bobby,
Now Im certain of it! You are some bullshit PFT spy put on here to stir up controversy amongst viking fans. Nobody but nobody could be as stupid as you and actually draw breath-I thought we had DNA and the whole”survival of the fittest” thing to weed out RETARDS like you!
Do you know what a diuretic is fuc# butter?
It is a substance that increases urine output-NOT A STEROID.
The rest of your post is to ignorant to reply to.
Im new to this site and enjoy it tremendously with the exception of a few ass clowns .So tell me Vikes fans If you ignore them do they go away?

  30. bluestree says: Dec 10, 2009 7:03 PM

nickstanley; Teams that rest players lose playoff games, and the Vikings mo is headed in the wrong direction already. They need a statement game to put doubt in the mind of their opponents. A loss to Cincy could spell the beginning of the end.

  31. Twiz says: Dec 10, 2009 7:03 PM

I hate to say it, but Harvin will end up sitting out a game or more cause of his Migraines.
Anyone else round here old enough to remember Kareem Abdul Jabar sitting on the floor holding his head when he tried to play in a game while having a migraine?

  32. favresux says: Dec 10, 2009 7:04 PM

  33. Satanic Hell Creature says: Dec 10, 2009 7:10 PM

Bob Nelson again proves he’s one of the dumbest posters around. Does he honestly think Harvin can avoid a drug test just by not showing up at practice? Does he honestly think readers of his idiotic posts believe this is possible. The NFL will get their samples from him whenever they want. I’m sure they will even go to his home if he isn’t at Vikings facilities.
His idiocy knows no bounds and we are all a bit dumber now for reading another one of his posts. I’m sure even the Packers fans are embarrassed to claim him.

  34. JimmySmith says: Dec 10, 2009 7:12 PM

Forget Percy, did you see the rest of the injury report?
AD with a bum leg isn’t the same running back just like Brent with a bruised vagina isn’t the same QB. At least the viking fans will have a built in excuse come Sunday if the Bengals leave with a win. Not that you need one, you do such a good job making them up that I would hate to pinch your natural creativity.

Don’t hate lil man, things will look up for you one day. Something must be missing in your little life to go on a 2 paragraph rant about people who post too much, why Bob is a genius, and your heart felt thoughts on Florio. I’ll pray for you dog, that one day you can be happy like me. Now don’t address me again nut sack unless you got a hot stock tip or van full of broads looking for action. durno99:
I agree the Saints have put up a couple of stinker performances, but still managed to win those games. I was just pointing out to the guy that the Vikings are still not out of the woods yet when talking about securing the #2 seed.
For that matter, the Saints still have some work to do in order to secure the #1 seed. For instance, IF the Saints lose to the Falcons and IF the Vikings defeat the Bengals, the Saints would only have a one game lead in the race for the #1 seed over the Vikings AND the Saints loss would be to an NFC team.
Like the way I worked those “ifs” into that one?
The Saints, Cardinals and Vikings are the class of the NFC, but the Packers are playing better (I know the Vikings killed them twice) and somebody is coming out of the East, maybe a hot Eagles team, so the road to the Super Bowl will not be an easy one. I just hope the road goes through…….The Big Easy…….

  40. Twiz says: Dec 10, 2009 8:22 PM

    @bluestree
If I were the Vikings coach (yea, I know, God forbid LOL) and one my star players had migraine probs, I would much rather he sit out a practice than a game if at all possible.

  41. Vito says: Dec 10, 2009 8:26 PM

My father used to get migraine and my best friend gets him and they are incapacitating. For many people they cause them to vomit. The one player I thought would be mentioned with migraines was Terrell Davis. He used to have them pretty bad, and that’s why he got braces a few years into his career. Doctors thought/determined that was the cause of the migraines in his case. In the Super Bowl when he was out of the game early on it was from a migraine. They brought him in before the half to run a play action at the goal line, knowing they couldn’t give him the ball. I remember him saying he couldn’t see straight and his job on the play was just to run towards the line of scrimmage and hope the defense would get fooled since no one knew he was suffering.

  42. zod says: Dec 10, 2009 8:39 PM

Migraines are a tough deal, but they come in degrees. So, the pressure is getting to the kid. So what?
Maybe, it’s just that the weather is really shitty right now. Who knows?
All I know is, if they lose, then it’s Katy bar the door; the meltdown will be in full swing.

    1) HAHAHA, understatement of the year. You spend more time writing for PFT than Rosenthall and MDS, maybe even Florio. Only difference -albeit a major one- is that they actually have content worth reading and get paid.
    2) You are RETIRED?!? Did you retire after your last football game in high school?? There is not a single one of your comments that suggests you are any older than 18-20 or hold anything higher than a GED.
I’m not saying that Bob is a genius, I’m just saying that he is a smarter loser than you are. Still a loser, just smarter. It’s all relative.
In regards to the rest of your post… typical response that I was expecting. Nothing intelligent to say, just making self-serving assumptions about about someone you don’t know. If something is missing from my “little” life because I took 5 minutes to post my opinion, what does that say about the void(s) in your “big” life (of posting on PFT all day)? Based on your genius reasoning, If I have a void because of my one post/rant, is it safe to assume that you have 500+ voids in your life?
