Yeah, Big Ben carries that team, just like he did last night against the worst team in football. And it’s funny to hear a Steeler fan call another QB a game manager, when that’s exactly what Big Ben is. His first SB win, he threw for 2300 yards in 12 games. Not even 200 yards a game. Then he had the impressive QB rating of 18 in the Super Bowl.
Last year, he threw for 3300 yards 17 TD’s, and 15 picks, and they win the Super Bowl again with Ben the game manager.
Ben is only successful when not asked to do much. Look at this year, his best statistical year by far (which still isn’t that good), and the Steelers are 6-7. When Ben is asked to carry the team, he takes them right to the cellar.

This is a summary of the Steelers first championship run of the ’00s:
Quarterback: Roethlisberger (2385 passing yards, 17 TD, 9 INT) had an outstanding regular season, posting a 98.6 passer rating and generally displaying the presence that led him to be named 2004 NFL Rookie of the Year, but reserved his best play for the postseason. “Big Ben” is 49-of-72 passing (68.1 percent) for 680 yards with seven touchdowns and just one interception through three 2005 playoff games, for a lusty passer rating of 124.8.
Running Backs: The Steelers running game has struggled somewhat during the playoffs, with both Willie Parker (1202 rushing yards, 18 receptions, 5 TD), and Jerome Bettis (368 rushing yards, 9 TD) averaging well under four yards per carry. Parker has just 132 yards on 47 carries (2.8 avg.) on the ground…
As you can see, the run game completely disappeared, and still Roethlisberger put up blistering 125 rating performances. If THAT isn’t carrying your team the concept has no meaning.
I guess you already forgot last year’s Bowl, when that “great” Steeler D collapsed in the 4th quarter? If not for a team-carrying QB to lead a historic drive, there is no Sixburgh.

I have to hand it to the Browns, the beat the Steelers just as much as the Steelers beat themselves. The Steelers are falling apart right now and need to get it back together. What I find a freaking joke though is the “anthem of the true loser”. That would be every sorry loser on all these sites who likes to say that the Steelers Super Bowls were won because of NFL/ref/drug use/(insert additional pitiful excuse here). Anyone of average intelligence who watches any football knows every team has calls that go for them and calls that go against them, it’s called football. Also, anyone who believes that the Steelers were/are the only team in the NFL to ever use performance enhancing drugs is in total denial.

Good gried, after reading all these goofy comments, I’ve forgotten the topic … oh yeah, the team is embarrassed. Well, you shouldn’t be embarrassed by losing to the Browns. They played very well. You should be embarrassed by the way you played–without heart. We need to make some personnel changes in the coming offseason. But no coach can give you heart. You’ll have to do that yourselves.

Here are what the Steelers need to do next year to have a winning season…my Christmas gift to Tomlin.
1. Build on a bigger offensive line to protect BEN.
2. Teach BEN not to hold on to the ball so long.
3. DEFENSE learns to finish games.
4. Learn to tackle on SPECIAL TEAMS.
5. Defensive backs QUIT giving 5 or more yards on coverages.
6. Non-concervative OFFENSIVE play calls. I know what is coming from my livingroom.
Do these 6 things and you will get back to winning. Damn, I can coach better than Tomlin did this year.

I blame the Dan for this one, for hiring a bonehead like Mike Tomlin in the first place I mean the guy was an defensive coordinator for only two years with the minnesota vikings before being hired as the head coach of my beloved steelers. Everyone knows the only reason he won a superbowl is because he inherited a great football team. The guy cannot coach. I knew that it was only a matter of time before the guy started to falter. Its only gonna get worse before it gets better. We cant score on offense and we cant stop anybody on defense, how do we solve the problem? By hiring a football coach. And I mean a great one at that. I am in hell right now! Thanks Mike!

Lol! I get a kick when I read fans’s comments about their team’s success and other fans’ teams lack of success. Get real – Like you have ANYTHING to do with this? LOL
Pittsburgh fans are the LUCKIEST fans in the NFL; Patriot fans are a close second. They are extremely fortunately to live in a town that has an excellent organization. Your team does a great job recognizing talent and developing the talent. Did you have anything to do with it? HELL NO!!! You are just riding the coattails of a successfull organization.
Karma can be extremely fickle…Someday when the Bengals or the Browns are building their dynasty (don’t laugh too hard), I’m sure those fans will be sure to rub your collective noses in the sh1t that comes out of the average stillers fan mouth.
There are many people that root for the underdog and love to see the giant fall.
This year is not the stillers year…In the AFC north, it appears to be the Bengals year. Will this become a trend? we don’t know, we’ll come back next year to see.
But it was fun to see the LOWLY Cleveland Browns beat the stillers – and I loved seeing the stillers fans get depressed and angry. Maybe its time for Karma to catch up with the most obnoxious fans in the NFL.

Im amazaed at how much money us steelers fans pay the officials to give us great calls yet they still miss the holding calls on Harrison and the cheap shots on Ward and Holmes.
To all of you jerkoff, champion-hating mediocre team following fans, deal with it. 6 trophies and the most consistent defense in recent history are all the things none of you can claim and your all jealous of it. Name a team who has more and I’ll concede.

I am not a Redskins fan, but facts do not lie. If the DC area is so full of Steeler fans, then why are the Redskins the number one team in terms of revenue gained. In September, 2008 the skins had revenue worth 327 million. The Steelers had 216 million. The skins are the second most valuable franchise behind the Cowboys. The Steelers are ranked 18th. How do they earn so much revenue without a broad fan base as so many of you Steeler fans claim? Unless, of course, you are all just blowing smoke to hide your team having its head handed to it on a plate by a 1-11 team. Few of you have the humility to accept the bitter pill and let others have their day. It is ironic that the more super bowls your team wins, the less classy you become.

Yep – the Steelers stink this year. And they may lose their remaining 3 games as well. But the Browns will be playing two more terrible teams, KC and OAK,
so we’ll see how they do against them – they may end up 2-14, which ain’t anyhing to be bragging about Browns fans. Browns fans are the most amiable fans in the NFL – they cheer for the Browns and the teams that the Steelers are playing. What a pitiful sorry bunch of dreamers. The Bengals aren’t going anywhere either – they barely beat the Browns and Steelers. The Ravens coach needs to find a job in a more suitable field, maybe in a hospital nursery or a “whinery” . I’ve never seen a bigger crybaby. I’d hate to be the ref on his sideline during a game. When an obvious penalty is called, instead of yelling at his players for being inept, he whines at the refs.

Not all Steelers Fans hiding out! O-line sucks D is playing like they are new at it. Poor Offensive and Defensive calls from the coaching staff. Clearly having lost to several of the worst teams in football we, at this point must consider ourselves one of the worst teams in football. Have not been this disapointed and ashamed since the Neil O’donnell/Tomzak era.

Just because I support or coach and GM and like the way they are building this team doesn’t mean I said Thompson is the best football mind ever or that McCarthy is a great coach. in fact in a previous post it was my opinion that McCarthy still is on the hotseat. Ben has NEVER carried the Steelers, the Defense always has.
Here’s the record for the Steelers D:
2004: 1
2005: 4
2006: 9
2007: 1
2008: 1
2009: 5
You’ll note that the Steelers can’t even get above .500 unless their D is 4th or better. While other QBs like Palmer, Brees (before this season) etc. get criticized for not “carrying” their teams when they play with #30 ranked defensive teams, Big Ben can’t even “carry” the #9 ranked defensive team above .500.
In 2005 Palmer led the league in TD passes and was QB for an 11-5 divison winning team with the #28 defense in the league. When Ben has that record with that bad a defensive team then let’s talk about “carrying” the team.

blah. what an ugly way to end any hopes of the playoffs. Can’t say I’m surprised.
This season has been like watching Groundhog day. Same problems over, and over, and over.
If you cant’ beat 3 of the worst teams in the league..wow. I dont even know what to think about that, other than I hope they lose the remaining 3 to get some better draft positioning.
There are A LOT of holes, ones that wont be remedied just by getting a healthy Polamalu and Arron smith back. Ariens and the ST coach need to go. Farrior as well. OL needs big time upgrades, esp at center. And of course we need a new CB..or 2.
