Wearing a non-licensed sombrero? $30,000.
Trying to poke an opponent in the eye? $20,000.
Using the superficial discrepancy to stir up the “No Fun League” crowd in an effort to increase the flow of comments? Classless.
But we’ll do it anyway.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the NFL has fined Titans defensive lineman Tony Brown $20,000 for poking a finger into an opponent’s facemask, in the vicinity of his eye.
It would be easy to explain away the difference between Chad Ochocinco urban sombrero fine by pointing to the fact that Ochocinco is a repeat offender. But Brown is, too.
As Schefter points out, Brown has been fined three prior times this year for on-field infractions.
The only real difference is that Ochocinco declared his intention to violate the rules via Twitter. Still, we’re not sure that even under those circumstances an unauthorized hat could be worth 50 percent more than an intent to injure.
UPDATE: As it turns out, MDS posted yesterday that Brown was fined only $10,000, citing the Nashville City Paper. We’ll let the City Paper and ESPN duke it out as to which one is right.
Such Crap,No Fun League indeed.
The Golden Weasel and his minions have really made it harder to watch because he’s taking all the joy out of the game. Oh and I’m well over 50 so don’t try to say that I’m some young snot. I don’t mind what Ocho Pinko does on the sidelines and it certainly doesn’t reach the level that this offense does and yet, it cost $10 grand more. I thought that Rozelle and Tagliubum were bad but Roger GoToHell, makes them both look like the life of the party.

At least you have finally admitted it. That’s the first step in getting help.
Chad’s fine was completely senseless. The guy is just providing entertainment. However in this case, Tony shouldn’t have been fined either. Go back and look at the play. Tony was having his eyes gouged on the bottom of the pile after the guy knocked his helmet half off. Tony’s was a complete retaliation that was no worse than the offense originally done to him. Even Fisher defended him this week on his tv show. Not even being a Titans fan, I have to agree with the team on this one. The Indy player should have been fined as much if not more.
Ocho’s hat hurt my eyes…
Why are the members of the “No Fun League” club so damned stupid?
For the umpteenth time: Large corporations (Reebok, et al) pay millions and millions of dollars to be the official this or the official that of the NFL.
Per these licensing agreemnents, NFL players are required to wear certain kinds of gear when they are in the game/on the sideline.
That’s why you don’t see players on the sidelines wearing hats and T-shirts advertising their Uncle Ray-Ray’s carwash, or their sister Shanaynay’s nail salon.
If/when Reebok starts making sombreros that carry the NFL shield, OchoStinko can wear amusing Mexican hats until the cows come home.
Until then, he should respect the licensing agreements with the companies that pay the NFL large sums of money to be “official” sponsors.
Hopefully, his next fine will be in the $100K range.
Roger Goodell would assassinate the Tooth Fairy if he could figure out how to do it. I heard he cannot walk into Disneyland without the flesh burning off his body.
I hate you Roger Goodell.
The NFL has been clear that player safety is NOT their priority. Their priority is maintaining an image that nobody cares about but themselves.
In her defense, Sister shanaynay did an awesome job on my girlfriend Milkamagnesia’s nails. She should get some sideline props.
If it’s strictly about the apparel deal, then I hope all the players and coaches get their watches, chains, and ice from Zales, the NFL’s official jewelry sponsor. Yes, I just made that up.
