The “totally different” JaMarcus Russell looked a lot like the old version.
Russell entered Sunday’s game at halftime for an injured Bruce Gradkowski with the score 17-10, and only led the Raiders to three points. The Redskins demolished Oakland with 17 fourth quarter points to win 34-13 in the Black Hole.
Russell completed 10-of-16 passes for only 74 yards and an interception as Washington’s defense continued to play excellent football.
The Redskins improved to 4-9, the same record Oakland owns, with the help of another solid game from Jason Campbell. We made light of the move to Sherman Lewis as playcaller earlier this season, but Campbell’s play has undeniably improved late in the season.
Campbell has five touchdowns to only one interception the last two weeks, and Washingon’s offense is going vertical again. Campbell completed four passes over 25 yards Sunday.
Campbell is putting together some nice tape for interested teams if the Redskins don’t want to keep him in 2010. In the meantime, he could go a long way towards deciding the NFC East title.
The Giants and Cowboys visit Washington the next two weeks and we’d be surprised if the Redskins don’t win one of those games.
Gregg.
You are right as rain. The Redskins will win one of the next two. It will be against Dallas.
As for JaMarcus… I said my piece in the last thread about him.
There is no reason to beat a dead hippopotamus.
Yup….Merry Christmas Skins.
A knee injury to Jokebusta$$ tops my list..
When he starts caring about anything other than
his contract then I’ll care more about him.
GFY Russ.
So much for “Time will tell” from JaWalrus. He has not one bit changed his lethargic dropbacks, sloppy clock management, and poor decision making. Most of his completed throws are in positions where defenders get a clean shot at the receivers, resulting in injury. This guy is a bust.
As a Skins fan, it makes me VERY happy to see our first round draft pick become an absolute beast this season. Osakpo is going to be an amazing player for our team in the years to come…still think he should be a dedicated DE, but that’s to be determined.
It has actually been kind of fun to watch the Redskins play these past 2 weeks (even with the loss to NO). We are really seeing what the future looks like without the majority of our starters…and to be honest, it doesn’t look as bleak as it once did.
In watching the game I can see why Raider Fans get upset when you talk about NFL ref’s. I have never seen so many our right we want to stick it to you calls on the Raiders.
A minute or so before the half they call a 15 yard for not letting the punt returner have a chance to catch the ball. Bad call as the replay would show, than they call another 15 yarder on the Raiders when the bench complained handing Washington 7 points right before the half.
Than on a drive that would have been stopped if not for the pass int call on Raiders Johnson, replay again would show Johnson did not touch the dude extending another Washington drive.
I could go on to list 2 or 3 others but I think you get the point. I think they called 15 penalties on the Raiders.
With Russell it looked like the minute he came in the O line stopped blocking. As bad as Russell is I do not think Manning could have done a thing behind the Raiders O line once Russell came in. They played pretty good in the first half.
Looks like that Steeler win was not as big a deal as they made out of it. With the Browns beating the Steelers the Raiders win over the Steelers was just one bad team beating another.
MAYBE the Raiders can bring Jason Campbell in next year to compete for the starting QB job, and then they can send Russell packing, Dan Snyder should thank his lucky stars he wasn’t stuck with Russell, I don’t think Jason Campbell is that bad a QB, in the right situation, he can be a very productive QB
the way they have improved, it begs a few questions- 1. with starters out, the offense is better- trade cooley and portis???get picks and draft linemen!!
2. do they keep the crazy coaching setup intact if the skins win over the giants and cowboys?????
3. Keep campbell? who ya gonna get thats better right away?
4. Are you going to throw everything out and start a total rebuild with a new coach and qb? write off the next couple years, though you’re not that far off the right track??
I’m sure Campbell impressed Al Davis. Compared to that lumbering slug Russell, Campbell looks like an all-pro. The Redskins played good defense all game, but Oakland was hanging until Gradkowski got hurt. The game was lost as soon as Russell took the field. That guy just stinks, and his offense didn’t try very hard to block for him today.
While i think Orakpo will be a good player… i think i could have generated a sack tonight. It’s not the pass rush – it’s Russell’s inability to feel pressure and step up. Gradkowski was sacked twice.. Russell went down at least 6 times – he’s horrific, stands around, refuses to throw the ball unless it’s a last resort dump pass…
Charlie Frye, Charlie Frye….
Simple math.
Russell = Suck
The game was over the second that moron took his first snap. Redskin fans shouldn’t get to high off of this win. It more than likely would have been a lot different if Bruce was able to keep playing.
snny, the o-line did a fine job considering the pressure Washington administered when JaBustus came into the game. It was all over when Bruce got hurt because he made the skins respect the pass AND the run. JaBustus instills no fear in defensive coordinators, which is why they blitz the hell out of him all day. You can’t expect any o-line to hold up under those circumstances. Bruce would’ve stepped up into the pressure, or rolled out, or thrown the ball away, in many of the situations where JaBustus was sacked. Its all about pocket awareness. JaBustus has none, and no desire to work at it.

==================================
The fat bastard either rolled into sacks, or didn’t step up.
He’s brain dead, end of story.
“It more than likely would have been a lot different if Bruce was able to keep playing.”
Ah the Skins were winning when Bruce went down, or did you forget? The Skins gave the supposed best team in the league (Saints – although they struggled against a depleted Falcons) all it could handle then spanked a Raiders team playing at home. Sure Russell is horrible, but you make it sound like the Raiders were in the lead and smoking the Skins before he got hurt.
As a Skins fan a win is a good thing, but its a team with a losing record. I will say I am impressed at the way the players have responded to Zorn. The talk in the papers and the radio in D.C. is Zorn is worthless and will never be a coach at the NFL level after this season. Well the Skins had a real shot to win the last 4 games over playoff caliber teams and that is a reflection of the coach. I am not eager to see the Skins start all over with a new coach next year. Might as well give Zorn one more year with Campbell and see what happens.
Sorry Raiders fans but JC is gunna stay with the Skins! JC and Zorn will stay!
MissTheMarcus is the worse QB I’ve ever seen. JaCarcus is just a fat piece of shit. I can’t stand looking at him. We spent like $400 on sunday ticket, so I can watch the Raiders. And well every other game thats played. Being from South Jersey I watch the Eagles every week, and the Raiders are never on. The NFL should send compensation money to anyone who watched any game JaFatass played in. All I want for Christmas is for Al Davis to “kick the bucket.” Give DaddyMac and DHB a chance. No one can succeed with that fat piece sucking the life out of everything.
Oh and Washington sucks. If it wasn’t for some of the worse calls I’ve ever seen that game is 10-10 at worst going into the half. Don’t fool yourselfs, your team blows just as much if not more than the Raiders.
I cannot believe that as soon as Jabustis entered the game his teammates stopped making plays……again.
@C_JohsonEnglishProfessor
The Eagles needed a field goal late to beat a Skins team fielding 3rd and 4th stringers on the O-line and the secondary. Guess that sums up the Eagles nicely.
Redskins fans (Wethog in particular) shouldn’t view this as a bonified win. The Raiders threw the game in the second half….obviously. And if you think Al Davis is dysfunctional, then you are obviously blind to Snyder and Cerratos’ shenanigans. Which college QB will they scout this week?
Trust me as a Raider fan the Redskins can keep Campbell we dam sure dont need another worthless QB !
@WetHog
I think you’ve had sound logic and made some good points in advocating the Redskins, and I’d like to help out. Here’s my contribution.
1) the Eagles swept the Redskins this year
2) the Raiders beat the Eagles this year
3) The Redskins beat the Raiders this year
We can all see where this is going…the Redskins are obviously better than the Eagles, despite the fact that Philly whipped them on MNF, sacking Campbell six times with Witherspoon running an interception back for a touchdown.
Sorry, WetHog, but you’re going to need a change at owner before your team improves. Trust me–I’m a Raiders fan, so I know it when I see it.
I like who you started out like it was all Russell. Did you watch the second half. The o-Line just laid down and gave up 6 sacks on Russell he had not time to throw the ball as soon as he stepped back they were on him. Dawn O-line do your job. It seems like they don’t like Russell so they just let the Redskin in to hit him
Give me a friggin break, raidertg.
The guy was rolling right into sacks. He’s even too stupid to step up in the pocket, he rolls into pressure.
To top it all off though, he couldn’t give a shit about anyone but him.
The guy is brain dead, brain dead.
