Scouts drooling over a man named Suh

Though he finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy balloting, Nebraska defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh could be on track to be the winner of the NFL’s annual April lottery.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Suh widely is regarded as the best prospect in all of college football.

Glazer added that some personnel evaluators believe Suh is the best defensive lineman to come out of college this decade, but others say that he’s the best since Julius Peppers emerged from Chapel Hill in 2002.  (Peppers was the second overall pick that year, sandwiched between two quarterback busts — David Carr and Joey Harrington.)

Suh had been gradually getting more and more notice throughout the 2009 season.  He made a cannon ball-sized splash into the draft pool with a dominant performance in the Big 12 title game, and he exuded an impressive presence, demeanor, and maturity during interviews conducted in connection with the Heisman presentation show on ESPN.

So, basically, the NFL’s current bottom feeders should be trying to get as close to the bottom as possible, since it will put them in position to reel in a guy who could help get them to the top of the mountain.

And the award for the 452nd Johnny Cash reference in the past week goes to….

Mixed metaphor. Clean it up, Florio.
Chicago could move up and take him. Oh wait. The Broncos get their first round pick.
    Cutler strikes again!

He’d better hope that the Rams don’t get the 1st pick – we have a tradition around here of taking great college D-linemen in the 1st round and turning them into mush…

Bucs fans everywhere thank the Steelers for imploding and giving the Browns a win.

I think he’s the consensus #1 pick. No one breathed a bigger sigh of relief when Cleveland gave up their status in the drivers seat to gain the #1 pick than Suh.
Mangenius may have saved his job by making sure his team didn’t get the best player in the draft

Anyone who watched the Big 12 Championship game knows that the guy is a beast.

I assuming by the headline that the guy’s name is pronounced “Sue”

Ndamukong Suh = not a DT in the NFL
This guy is supposed to be a DT?
He is very strong and quick – but he plays too high. Lacks knee bend. Reminds me a little of Jon Hand. Does not protect his legs.
Uses his immense upper body strength to seperate vs college players – won’t be able to depend on that in the NFL.
Probably be best as a 3-4 DE – looks to have the required accelleration in space.
I honestly wonder if he might be a very good 3-4 MLB – he seems to be very quick to diagnose and react. Good speed and pursuit skills.

    @zilla
no team is dumb enough to turn a guy with such high potential at the 4-3 dt position into a mlb

Wow zilla…..Thanks for your Mel Kiperish analysis. I’m sure GM’s and player personnel people around the NFL are running to their computers to read your “expert” analysis…What team is it you work for again?…I honestly wonder if you talk to hear yourself think….

This guys looks like another Glenn Dorsey coming out of college. Tons of hype but a huge bust.

  12. Hooby says: Dec 13, 2009 2:35 PM

send him to philly and you can bet sean mcdermott would do all sorts of crazy defensive schemes.
no wait i forgot, the eagles are a winning team. maybe we could trade up for him?
in all seriousness, my money says the rams arent gonna go for a defensive player. whichever qb is slated to go first, be it bradford locker or mccoy, will go to the rams #1 overall. bulger is strait up garbage and boller isnt any better. if only they had a qb that offense would be viable again. gibson, avery, robinson, jackson + qb = offense. they already have a fast athletic dt in carriker, plus james laurinaitis is developing fast (as fast as one can develop on the rams), plus a safety like atogwe, PLUS stevie spags running it all.
trust me, its the offense theyll worry about.

  13. red13 says: Dec 13, 2009 3:42 PM

Hooby, I hate to tell ya’, but Carriker is on IR – he got hurt in preseason. He did nothing last year and his rookie season, and talk is maybe they’ll cut him loose or try to trade him. He’s another D-line bust for the Rams, apparently. I agree with the Laurinaitis assessment, though.

And what, may I ask, is this story doing under the Browns heading? We 2-11 now bitches! We’ll be picking middle of the pack.

  15. LighTsouT says: Dec 14, 2009 12:06 AM

Rams took DTs Jimmy Kennedy, Damione Lewis, Adam Carriker and Ryan Pickett in the first round this decade. Suh is by far a better player all of them put together. IF the Rams decide to keep Carriker though, he could fit into a nice rotation with Suh, Ryan, and Scott. Then bring back Little, Long, Hall @ DE and I think teh Rams will have a much improved D-Line, IF everyone plays up to potential. LB still isn’t anything impress besides Animal Jr though. Rams have a bunch of practice squad players on the actual 52 man roster.
ps, the defense has looked much worse this season than they really have been as the offense can’t do ANYTHING with the ball.

  16. KennyPowers says: Dec 14, 2009 12:56 PM

I was pretty pumped for the Browns to have a chance to draft this guy, but it looks like that won’t happen now. The Browns only strength on defense is their D-Line, especially now that reports indicate they will keep Rubin at starting NT next year and bump Shaun Rogers outside to DE. A line of Rogers – Rubin – Robaire Smith with Corey Williams and Coleman as depth is pretty nasty. Obviously adding Suh would make them dominant. The secondary is what needs drastic improvement. Other than Eric Wright, we have no other players in the secondary that would start on any other team in the league.
Barring us somehow getting Suh, they need to draft Eric Berry or trade down. Drafting one of the QBs would be a huge mistake.
I disagree with the sentiment that this guy will be a huge bust. He is light years beyond what Dorsey was as a prospect.

I want Mark Ingram! too bad hes only a sophmore…
The Browns would be once again the laughing stock and even worse then they are now if they drafted anyone of these awful quarterbacks. I like clausen the best but really, two notre damn QB’s… I sadly hate this years draft. I am not looking forward to picking in the top 5 at all this year. But since its inevitable I say pick up Eric Berry to help out the secondary cause its pretty horrendous or and I don’t like this pick. But getting rid of a scrub like St Clair and getting Russel Okung to solidify our OLine then that would’nt be a bad move. Joe Thomas LT, Alex Mack C, and Okung as RT with Steinbach at LG… I couldn’t see anyone of our running backs not being able to find some hole to run through
