Suggs thinks Lions targeted his knee

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs returned to the field on Sunday for the first time since he suffered a knee injury last month on a Brady Quinn cheap shot.

And although Suggs came out of the game feeling OK, he thinks he was on the receiving end of another cheap shot against the Detroit Lions.

They went right after my knee,” Suggs said, per Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times. “I tweaked it a little bit. I had to make an adjustment to the brace, but it was fine.”

Suggs limped off the field after getting hit in the knee and was sore, but he said afterward that he was just glad to be back in action.

“It felt good,” Suggs said. “They hit it on the second play of the game and it’s been hurting ever since, but you have to shake it off. I wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction. So, I shook it off, taped it up some more and got back in there.”

Suggs didn’t record any sacks but did have four tackles and generally played well in the blowout win over the Lions.

did they pour bleach on his knee?

  2. nedirect says: Dec 14, 2009 11:35 AM

i think every opponent he faces for the rest of the year will be going after his knee. it makes him think more about protecting himself rather than running over the opponent. get used to it buddy you have a big bullseye on your knee and now that teams know you are subconsciously thinking about it they are aiming for it.

Yeah ok Suggs. And if the opposing QB has a bad shoulder I’m sure you’ll make every effort not to tweak that right?

Please, targeting someones injuried body part has been going on since football was first started. Listen to the old timers talk someday. This has always been going on, and always will.

  9. af16 says: Dec 14, 2009 11:44 AM

When did he say he thought it was a cheap shot? He said they went after his knee, like anyone could probably expect.

  10. CapsLockKey says: Dec 14, 2009 11:56 AM

Can there be one week where a Ravens players doesn’t cry like a girl? Ironic being they are the biggest shit talkers in the league.

    @ af16:
He’s being a crybaby. It’s implicit in his statement. “I wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction”. C’mon Suggs, stop being such a pussy and play ball.

  12. BDiddy says: Dec 14, 2009 11:59 AM

Would that be the same Terrell Suggs who dove at Tom Brady’s knee a few weeks ago, causing Ray Lewis to cry about the resulting personal foul call? Or is this the Terrell Suggs who allegedly poured bleach on his babymama and 1 year old kid?
    Pot, meet kettle.

  13. Cereal Blogger says: Dec 14, 2009 11:59 AM

Right, the Lions have a lot of fight in them…sure,,,did you see the score? They dont care

They also tried to cheap shot him in the gums, but they bounced off like super balls.

You guys pretty much beat me to everything that could be said.
The guy was taken out by a quarterback.
Now, he’s abused by the Lions.
    What next?
The ratbirds truly are the whiniest bunch of crybabies I’ve ever known in the NFL.

  18. HarrisonHits says: Dec 14, 2009 12:06 PM

Another week, another round of whining by the Ravens. Suggs has started it off, who’ll be the next one to start crying ?

  19. KevinFaulk-an-a says: Dec 14, 2009 12:10 PM

Wow, the Ravens even whine like little girls when they win now!
That tribe needs to be busted up and rebuilt.
Honestly, has there been a game where they aren’t crying on Monday yet this year?
Ravens, you can either be thugs or sissy-boys, but you should really pick one and stick with it.

  20. Storm says: Dec 14, 2009 12:11 PM

Don’t you just love the haters on here? NOT!
It was a cheap shot that injured the knee in the first place. I don’t blame him for complaining about them targeting his knee.
Take a look at Brady, don’t you see him beg for flags when someone just “looks” at his leg?

  21. jamaltimore says: Dec 14, 2009 12:20 PM

Too Bad he can’t just point to the player who brushes next to his knee and then tell the ref to through a flag aka. Mr Bunchen!

These comments have to be my favorite of all time on this website.
I’m glad everyone else who’s not a Raven fan see’s that this guy is such a whiner… much like some of his other teammates (Clayton and Ray Ray).
Whether it’s Santonio Holmes non-TD (the regular season one, not the super bowl one) or the Tom Brady calls someone on the Ravens is always whining. Funny how Flacco had a few of the same calls go his way during the Patriot match up as well, I didn’t hear Ray Ray or Suggey-Poo complaining the refs saying Flacco should wear a skirt.
Everyone suffers cheap shots and bad calls, shut the hell up and get used to it.
Besides we all know pouring bleach is best for removing blood stains from stab wounds.

  24. Brohamma says: Dec 14, 2009 12:56 PM

    Sheesh! Come on Suggs!
You intentionally went after Brady’s knee and were flagged for it. But don’t forget one thing.. Brady NEVER said that you went after him in the media… even though you did.
Now that you have a knee injury.. someone call the WAAAA-mbulance.
PS: How’s that whole bleach thing working out for you and you child you loser!

It’s amazing after a 48-3 win, there are still Ravens snivling over something.
Keep putting up those blowouts over the division 2 of the NFL, then choke against the big boys.Tools.

  26. simple_simon1 says: Dec 14, 2009 1:23 PM

Hey Suggs. I hope what you say is true. As a Lions fan it’s noce to see them fighting any way possible for any advantage. This would be a new high for my team. LOL….What a loser. I guess, if nothing else, this game once again showed why Pullpecker should hang the cleats up. She’s brutal!!!! And I guess comments like Suggs’ gets the Lions in the comment section, even after a beating like this. So all’s good.

  27. Hooj says: Dec 14, 2009 1:24 PM

Wow, most of you guys are absolute morons. Is it an unwritten rule that you take advantage of an opponents injury if possible? sure. But it’s also understood, that if you possess a pair of testicles, you don’t go after someone’s knees. Reading the comments it’s clear most of the posters own less then 2 testicles. Hence their difficulty in understanding the situation. And no, suggs didn’t dive after bradys knee. Watch the actual games instead of getting all of your opinions from message boards.

  33. DeuceDeuce13 says: Dec 14, 2009 2:49 PM

People are idiots on here… Who actually saw suggs dive at bradys knee? You all read about it it was a bs call because suggs was blocked down and Brady might as well threw the flag himself. And to everyone that says the ravens are crybabies.. Such as Ray-Ray and Clayton? I think you ment mason because Clayton hasn’t said much all year even in regard to his drops. But everyone is quick to call em crybabies but when the same refs make the same mistakes in other games it’s an outrage and the refs should be fired or made full time??? Dosnt make sense…

  34. netdawg says: Dec 14, 2009 2:49 PM

He gets dumped and put on the injury report by the prettiest QB in the league on the worst team in the league at the time, then whines like a little girl when he gets smacked around by another team at the bottom of the heap in the league…
…what’s he going to do when he plays a team that’s playoff bound? Oh yeah, we’ve seen that already he CHOKES!
I like the comment from the poster that mentions if he’d ease up on a QB with an arm or upper body ailment. Suggs is supposed to be a bad-ass but it looks like he’s about to start menstrating

  35. thehoodedone says: Dec 14, 2009 2:51 PM

    Rodney Harrison

  36. Brohamma says: Dec 14, 2009 3:04 PM

    @ Hooj..
You open your eyes bro. When they show the reverse angle of the play you will see that Suggs was being blocked to the sidelines but shed it and dove up field and Brady’s knees.
So about the whole message board thing.. ROFL!
About growing two testicles… you might want to talk to your boy Suggs about that. His crying act about “Detroit was going for my knee” is pathetic.
    One word for you… SLAP!

  37. Stinger9 says: Dec 14, 2009 3:07 PM

I don’t think Suggs was looking to make headlines with this story. Of course they went after his weakness. I’m sure the same scenario happened in 13 other games yesterday and Suggs knows it too.
MDS is just trying to make this non story into something to get the comment total up. Florio should be proud of his protege.

  38. af16 says: Dec 14, 2009 3:32 PM

If there’s one thing MDS can be counted on, it’s taking a shot at the Ravens whenever possible. Even if that means devoting a paragraph in the Lions-Ravens write-up to whine about Troy Smith.

I did mean Mason not Clayton my mistake, and I agree with you. The officiating in the NFL is absolutely terrible and it’s due to it not being a full time job. Bad calls are becoming a staple of the league and it’s really sad.
I also can understand why a player would complain to the media. What gets annoying is the constant whining coming from Baltimore over the years. Whenever something doesn’t go their way Ray Lewis and company have to say something stupid and the media just has to play it over and over, only making it worse.

  40. Hooj says: Dec 14, 2009 3:55 PM

Like Ray says where all the same call the game that way. In reality they are not and physical teams like the Ravens do seem to be penalized for their just there persona . BTW, Those barney looking guys in purple camo are actually ravens rangers.

It’s not just MDS that has an issue with Troy Smith. The team is up 41-3 at the time late in the 4th and he dances like he just won the Super Bowl…. REALLY?
Sure he doesn’t play, but a little respect for the game goes a long way. Anyone who celebrates a “big” play in a blow out game should be shamed. I don’t want to see a defender posing after a sack or tackle for loss when they are down or up by more than a touchdown in the last part of the game.

  47. stanjam says: Dec 15, 2009 12:55 AM

You’re kidding me? You think they really came after your knee because they knew it was a weak spot? Next thing you know opposing teams will be running right at the replacement lineman when someone on your line is injured, or targeting a corner they know to be weak.
OF COURSE they came after your knee! What did you expect? If your knee wasn’t ready to take some punishment why were you out there risking your career?
This is a league that has ALWAYS done this.It is well known that coaches used to (and probably still do) TELL their players to go after a player’s injury. Until fairly recently players were given BONUSES for taking someone out of the game!
You do realize the history of the game you play yes? Just like the fans that whine about things like SpyGate, you have no appreciation for the history or realities of the game, and should probably go play tennis. In football players will come after your weakness, be it a new or old one. They will try and aggravate your injury, test your knee to see if it IS a weakness. They will bend and break every rule they can to win. It is encouraged in this game. The league passively has encouraged teams to play dirty, cheat the rules until they get caught, and then move on. Nothing new here.
