Cerrato departure fuels Shanahan speculation, too

Though the timing of the resignation of Redskins executive V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato has prompted speculation that owner Daniel Snyder wants a ticket to the Big Show, other league insiders believe that Snyder has a different target.

“Holmgren’s not going there,” one league source opined to us this morning.  “It’s [Mike] Shanahan.  The timing is just coincidental.  Vinny was told that Shanny didn’t want him, so he resigned.”

Whether it’s Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, or someone else remains to be seen.

In that regard, stay tuned.  Our pal Jay Glazer of FOX might have something interesting soon.

And if everyone knows they are going after Shanahan, that means it will be very difficult to comply with the Rooney rule and get a minority to interview. Unless they’re going to “interview” Sherman Lewis first.

Shanahan needs a QB. There isn’t any in Washington.

So, have Shannahan and Holmgren spent the last 3 months in a tanning booth, or are the Redskins exempt from the “Rooney Rule” due to the team nickname?

Nothing will change until the team gets rid of Snyder.
Oh I forgot he owns the team.
Couldn’t be happier as a Giant fan that the Redskins are what they are. But It’s really sad to see what happened to this once great franchise. I’ll never forget the Giants Redskin against Gibbs and George Allen-they were the best! Too bad……………..

Jesus, Snyder goes from no movement, no communication, no tact, in the crapper administration for years, to a flurry of activity in hours. Hanukkah really is eight crazy nights.

Doesn’t Shanahan have to hold out to see if the Texans job comes open? His son’s on the staff; they run his offense; they have a quarterback, a pass-catching tight end and a stud receiver; and they’re in Texas, where his buddy Dubya lives.
