New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott cost his team 15 yards for knocking the helmet off Tampa Bay’s Adam Hayward during Sunday’s game, and he had harsh words for himself afterward.
“I got the retard of the day award by helping us get a post-play penalty to give up the shutout,” Scott said.
Now the NFL has fined Scott $5,000 for unnecessary roughness.
The 15 free yards Scott gave the Bucs set up a 43-yard field goal that were Tampa Bay’s only points in a 26-3 loss.

nothing says class act like comparing a boneheaded play to life as a mentally handicapped individual. When will these guys learn that most everyone else in the country has harder lives than they do, yet they still whine and moan and cheat and beg for more money and attention.

Bart Scott has a six year contract worth $48 million, equating to an average of $8 million a year or $500,000 per game. That means Scott earns enough to pay the fine in less than two and a half minutes of game time. Why even bother? Do they really think he’ll even notice that the money is gone? A lot of players spend more than that in an hour at the club.
If the league were serious about using fines to discipline players, why not kill two birds with one stone — raise the fines tenfold and then use the proceeds to pay pensions and disability benefits to retired players who sacrificed their health to build the league into what it is today?
