Braylon Edwards sued for child support

New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards is being sued for child support by a former contestant on America’s Next Top Model.

The New York Post reports that Edwards fathered a child with Nik Pace, and that Pace is now suing him for up to $70,000 a month in child support.

The Post quotes Pace’s lawyer as saying Pace is bringing the suit in New York after Edwards attempted to be recognized as the father of the child in Georgia, where child support payments would likely be lower.

“Braylon had tried to get the case litigated in Georgia because they are traditionally less generous with child support payments,” Pace’s lawyer, Raoul Felder, told the Post. “It’s a cold, calculated act to pay less money.”

Edwards’ attorney, however, said there was nothing untoward about Edwards’ actions.

“Braylon is a proud father who has loved and supported his child since before he was born,” Edwards’ lawyer, Randy Kessler, said. “He filed in June to declare himself the legal father and she objected.”

Pace isn’t the only person suing Edwards: He is also facing a civil suit for allegedly punching a friend of NBA star LeBron James.

    Edwards is a turd.
    And a bust.
Jets are idiotic for paying what they did to get him.

Hahah right..what does this child eat gold dust..70,000 a month sounds like a washed up wannabe model trying to live off of her child. I’m not trying to stick up for Edwards but coming from the child of a single mother who never took a dollar of child support out of principal…..that B needs to get a job.

Paying 70k a month for child support so the woman he got pregnant can retire is just ridiculous. What has she done to earn 70k just because he is a football player and makes a nice sum of money, his kid doesn’t need $840,000 a year to survive.

Braylon’s not a good ambassador for the NFL, I’m no fan of his.
But… this slays me: “Pace is now suing him for up to $70,000 a month in child support.”
What child requires $840,000 per year in support? The average American family is raising more than one kid on measly five figure annual incomes. I mean, how do they get by?

  9. Lost says: Dec 18, 2009 12:32 PM

The proud father of his child.
There is a reason the sex of the child is not being revealed?
    Two hands, Braylon.

Damn, I would raise Braylon’s kid for $70,000 a month! I did the math. If the kid soils himself 3 times a day, I’d be getting paid over $700 per diaper change!

I’m not a fan of Braylon Edwards at all. I’ve ripped him several times, right here on PFT. But, I can smell a golddigger, and this gal is one.

Great bitch objecting to making him the legal father… But she is quick to make sure he is legally bound to make them child support payments… I can almost guess how that night went…
BE: Can’t you just go down on me. I don’t have a condom
NP: Oh its ok I’m on birth control. Oh by the way you are a starter in the NFL right?
BE: Girl you know it. So you did take your pill?
    NP: I took two!
    2 maybe 3 minutes later
BE: Where do you want me to bust girl?
NP: In me! That’s how I really get off!

  14. jeff says: Dec 18, 2009 12:43 PM

In actuality, if you do the math….
    5,000,000 X 17% = 850,000
    850,000 / 12 months = 70,833.333.
17% of your earings is roughly what you give up in child support. So she isn’t way out of line on her “demands”.
Not taking a side here, just wanted to lend some perspective.

Normal child support is a thousand a month or less in most cases. That woman is insane. Braylon should sue for custody.

Being a Divorced father of 2 kids. Child support is a joke. I can only imagine what it would be like for an athlete. I mean why does his kid cost anymore to raise than my kids? I don’t understand how Baby Mommas get away with this crap. Its completely ridiculous. Once you have kids and it doesn’t work with the mother the courts try to make it so you can’t better yourself. I don’t mind paying for my kids at all I love getting things for them. But when they take 40% of your paycheck for child support. (Even more if your ex doesn’t work) Then you are told well if you want more money for yourself get a second job, well then your ex can take you back for part of that too?
Sorry for the rant.. But Braylon should not have to pay 70K a month for child support when my kids make due with right around 600. Seriously…

Mangini is so stupid for trading this guy…. just another example of how Mangini cant do anything right.
Edwards has been amazing on the field, and even better off of it.
… and all Mangini got in return was a 3rd rounder, 5th rounder, and two young solid players….. he is such an idiot!

You must be from Michigan. I’ve been bleeding right along with you for the last six years. Doing your duty to raise and support your children is one thing, continuing to support your ex is another. Come on October 8, 2010!!!!!!

  24. Zebrahater says: Dec 18, 2009 1:41 PM

Georgia’s child support is not traditionally lower but was changed about 4 yrs. ago to take account the mothers income as well. It’s more fair than some states but the men still get reamed. I’m on your side Braylon!

  25. texasPHINSfan says: Dec 18, 2009 1:48 PM

Far be if from me to defend Braylon, but I’m another father who has to pay support and the system sucks in this country.
I realize that child support is calculated off the father’s income, but at some point there should be a ceiling. It does not cost $70k to raise a kid. Give me a damn break.
I don’t blame Braylon for not paying that, and I don’t blame him for filing in Georgia. Anyone that faults that process most definitely doesn’t have to pay child support. I make the “average” American salary and my child support is literally 45% of my take home pay. It’s absurd. My ex-wife gets to live in a new house, drive a new car, and our son gets to go to a nice school and have nice things. I live in a crappy one bedroom apartment, drive a 20 year old car, and have a much shittier quality of life.
I’m not against supporting the kids you father…. but keep it within reason. If you struggle to support yourself, how can the government make you give your ex-spouse more money than you can afford to even take care of yourself?
I’m with Braylon on this one. Bring that child support schedule down to reasonable levels and make him pay.

    @ Thunderlips-
LMFAO. Great point. Stucky is slow coming around but I bet Braylon has already dropped more balls in NY alone than Stucky for his whole career.

  28. Bell63 says: Dec 18, 2009 2:08 PM

He’s the bad guy for not wanting to shell out $70k a month? My money is on this female having banged out this kid in order to have a payday.

  29. jeff says: Dec 18, 2009 2:32 PM

Even if he shlls out $70,000 a month for the kid, $850,000 per year. He still has $4,150,000 left.
    Poor Braylon.
    The $ is all relative.
If you are paying 45% of your wages, you must have kids from different mothers, 2?3?
If that is the case. I don’t feel sorry for you at all.
If not, well then your state sucks for CS laws.

some chick your just having sex with does not deserve 70k a month in child support, thats total bullcrap,i dont care what the dude makes. It doesnt take 70k a month to raise a child.
There is going to be a day when these judges use some common sense and hand out good decisions on these child support cases

What part of the CS = a percentage of the fathers income don’t you get?
If you make 40,000 per year the kid gets,6,800.
If you make 5,000,000, the kid gets 850,000.
It is all relative to the money earned.
If the kid lived with braylon, he would be living in a certain lifestyle. This insures that he lives that lifestyle away from Braylon.
    It isn’t rocket surgery.
No, it doesn’t take 70,000 a month to raise a kid, but it’s in line with braylon’s financial wherewithal.
I don’t see the big deal. It falls in line with 17% of your wages rule.

  34. Kevin from Philly says: Dec 18, 2009 3:46 PM

They proved paternity because the kid kept dropping his bottle.

    I aint sayin’ she’s a gold digger, but……….
It’s wrong for Braylon to file for fatherhood in georgia because it cost less, but it should be criminal for her to object in Georgia, but say OK in New York because she can get more.
I hate to say it, but I’m with Braylon on this one. The kid deserves every bit of the $70,000 a month, but if she benifits at all she shouldn’t get a penny of it. Let the kid live with Braylon and benifit from all of his earnings, while she sits at home broke. They wern’t married, her lifestyle shouldn’t change.
