Lawrence Phillips gets 31 years

Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips, one of the biggest top-ten first-round busts of all time, has been sentenced to more than 31 years in prison for attacking his girlfriend, and for driving his car into three teens, according to the Associated Press.

The incidents occurred in 2005.

The Rams made Phillips the sixth overall pick in the 1996 draft, eight spots before Eddie George was selected by the Titans.

The quick collapse of Phillips’ career makes the franchise’s ability to win a Super Bowl only three years later even more amazing.

Only 31. What took so long to get the trial over?
With marginal or “good” behavior he will get paroled in 12,
and back in prison in 14.
Dick Vermeil should shed another tear.

Hi Mr. Florio. The casual reader might not know that you are referring to the Rams as the “franchise” in the last sentence…unless I am missing something in my post-Friday work induced glee.

AT least they don’t say “Former Husker” anymore. Such a shame. He had such potential.

He was referring to the Rams chief. If you are going to call someone an idiot at least be on point like yours truly.
Interesting the second part though, I was wondering the same

    drop that soap, Lawrence!

  27. GregO says: Dec 18, 2009 7:18 PM

    @PackFaninPackLand
There is a difference between intentionally driving your car into a crowd of people in broad daylight, trying to kill them and accidentally hitting a pedestrian who was somewhere they should not have been in the early hours of the morning.
One is attempted murder the other is a tragic accident where both parties involved were at fault.

Re: stnnmc “You have got to keep in mind that this incident was only the latest of many dealing with Phillips beating on women. You continue the practice the price goes up as evidenced by the received sentence.”
So how many people would Stallworth have to kill via his drunk driving until he reached the 31 years that Phillips got for beating up several women ??? 10 ??? 20 ??? 50 ???
Don’t get me wrong, both players are pieces of $hit, but this sentence makes no sense whatsoever.
    ———————————–
Re: wowbaka – Oh, so you can buy your way out of jail – even for killing someone ??? Nice.

Re: GregO – “One is attempted murder the other is a tragic accident where both parties involved were at fault.”
Huh ???? Umm Greg, are you Stallworth’s attorney ??? What a ridiculous comment.

That ignorant ass will surely do soemthing stupid in the hole that’ll get extra years added onto his sentence. I personally would’ve made him fry in the chair, but that’s just me.

I’m stunned by how many people here didn’t know Lawrence Phillips was drafted out of Nebraska by the St. Louis Rams.
I always suspected many of the posters here were either retarded or 12 years old. This kind of confirms it.

  40. 8man says: Dec 18, 2009 9:21 PM

    This is incredible!
Being old, white, lacking any rhythm and any athletic ability to speak of, I can’t comprehend how someone with his gifts would behave in such a manner.
    Shocking!
Just a side note. Not all first round picks turn out to be NFL capable, stand up guys and all around good citizens.
    Itz da money!
I mean, afterall, monkeys do fling poo! Why? Because it’s what they do. The human animal is a little harder to predict. So no pain to the Rams. How would they have known?

  41. shawnc16 says: Dec 18, 2009 9:52 PM

Keep in mind in Stallworth’s situation he was drining and driving but he was not at fault. The pedestrian stepped out in front of his car which could have happened anyway.
He was wrong to drink and drive but there is a big difference between intentionally driving into people and someone stepping in front of your car.

  42. Ghost2thePost says: Dec 18, 2009 10:16 PM
