Mora wants “dirtbags,” hopes that we don’t point it out

It’s been a busy couple of days for us, and so I’m still making it through my ongoing list of possible story ideas. (For security reasons, I write them in Pig Latin.)

A little while ago, I finally had a chance to open the string of e-mails we received late Wednesday regarding a reference that Seahawks coach Jim Mora made to PFT. And it reminded me that we like Jim Mora a lot, and that we hope his new G.M. feels the same way.

Speaking with the media, Mora explained his belief that offensive linemen need to have a certain type of mentality.

“If you’re gonna be a good offensive lineman, I think you’ve gotta be a little bit of a . . . you gotta have . . . you gotta be . . . can I say it? . . . you gotta be a little bit of a dirtbag,” he said.

“Not as a person, but on the football field. In the pit, where all that stuff goes down, man if you don’t have some freakin’ toughness, you’re gonna fail. You’re gonna fail.”

He later explained his choice of the “dirtbag” term, and one of the writers said that it’s a great word.

Smiling, Mora agreed. “It’s gonna show up on ProFootballTalk in about 30 seconds,” Mora said, to laughter from the room.

It actually took us a little bit longer. But better late than never.

He’re the full press conference. The “dirtbag” discussion heats up at about the 13-minute mark.
