Phillips promises Cowboys won't "cow down" to Saints

The Dallas Cowboys have what may be their toughest and most important game of the season coming up Saturday against the New Orleans Saints, and Cowboys coach Wade Phillips says his team is heading into the game with the expectation of winning.

“We have confidence in our football team,” Phillips said, per Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com. “We’re not going to cow down to these guys. We think we can win. Every game we’ve been in so far, we thought we could win. I believe we feel the same way going into this one.”

Of course, every team thinks it can win every game. The difference between the Cowboys and the Saints is that the Saints have won every game this year.

Still, Phillips says he thinks he has the kind of team that will rise to the occasion.

“Usually when people say you can’t do something, people bow up and have a lot of pride,” Phillips said. “I think it helps. I don’t think our confidence is we can’t do it and we got to do something else to be able to do it.”

Phillips isn’t usually the type to talk big heading into big games. But considering that he likely won’t have a job in January without some big December wins, maybe he thinks it’s time to pull out all the stops.

Can any follow this? No wonder the team is spiraling out of control like a turd flushed down the toilet. But Jerry has his big screen TV and Vox doesn’t have a leg to stand on (again), it might be another decade before the Cowgirls win another playoff game.
    Signing off, 17-7

I predict that Wade Phillips will be an assistant coach on another sidelines shortly after the season is over for the Cowboys. Its been a long time since the days of Craig Morton, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Randy White, etc, and if Phillips is allowed to remain on this sideline, it will be even longer. There clearly is trouble in the camp, an example being Roy Williams and Romo, but I doubt that is all. Sure hoping the Cowboys can win Saturday night.

Wade you’re a nice guy and all, and good coach, especially as a defensive coordinator, but check out monster.com. You’ll need it.

“not going to cow down”…interesting choice of words there, Doughboy!
COME ON DALLAS COWBOYS IMPRESS ME with a big, CLUTCH win in December!!!! This would go a long way in silencing critics!
LOL, I just love how Dallas fans are holding their collective breath on this one!
    The silence is deafening!!!

remember a couple of years ago, unbeaten colts went to dallas, and in hours before the game the betting lined moved about 3 points towards cowboys favor
and of course then cowboys beat them on bad indy mistakes

Didn’t doughboy all but guarantee a win against the Giants because Eli dared to sign the wall in the Dallas locker room? Yep, Wade’s scaring everyone in the NFC with his tough talk about winning. One and done AGAIN in the playoffs, IF they even make it. I used to have a little respect for Wade as a person, but his rants about winning and how his guys “respect the game and their opponents” has done nothing but make him look like an assclown. He’s either in total denial or needs a scriptwriter to write him some more plausible lies. That said, we all know the REAL problem in Dallas is the GM/real coach/talent scout/draft expert/contruction-expert/douchebag.

Hap, the G’s are a game behind a steadily failing mess of a team, in case you didn’t notice that, and oh yeah, they own the tie breakers.
LOL, and another oh yeah, it’s December.

  32. penguininbondage says: Dec 18, 2009 10:45 AM

A Dallas loss and Giants win puts the Giants in as a wild card with Dallas on the sidelines.
A Dallas win with Philly loss and a Giants win puts the Giants in first, dallas with the wild card and Philly looking in depending on what Green bay does.
Dallas would have to be tied with Philly at the end of the season to the division as long as the Giants are a game back.
It could go to the last week, but think that Philly locks up at least a wild card this weekend and Dallas fals two back with two left.

Today is Day 4778. It’s been that many days since the Cowboys last won a playoff game!
That record looks to keep going for a long time especially since they don’t look poised to even make the playoffs.
Wade is doing a wonderful job, I hope Jerrah cows down to him and gives him an extension…
    Sincerely,
    Eagles Fan

  34. SaintsBaby says: Dec 18, 2009 11:20 AM

Where are all of the Cowboy fans getting this confidence that they can win this game? We all know how Romo plays in big games (Seattle in the playoffs, last year vs the Eagles to get into the playoffs, this year vs the Giants twice) and how Brees plays in big games (Jets and Giants coming in undefeated earlier in the season, total humiliation of the Patriots). It is hard to get a win in the dome, just ask Tom Brady or Eli Manning. Is Romo better than those guys? Maybe its Phillips superior game planning skills that will pull them through. Come to think of it the difference maker might be Romo holding the ball for the kicker.

  35. ZombieRevolution says: Dec 18, 2009 11:29 AM

“Of course, every team thinks it can win every game.”
I’m sure Detriot and Tampa Bay feel this way before every game. Like in the Pats undefeated regular season- some teams are defeated before they even take the field.

  36. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 18, 2009 11:45 AM

NEITHER team has played well lately, so anything is possible.
If the Saints are clicking like they have at times, no one can beat them, which has been proven.
But if they sputter like they did playing Atlanta when Atl was playing a ton of back-up players, even at QB and RB, they can certainly be beaten.

  37. PolegoJim says: Dec 18, 2009 11:45 AM

As a Cowboy fan – Romo needs a daddy on the sidelines period, not a good ole boy buddy.
Someone who will slab the snot out of him if that irritating ‘Awe shucks guys, I did my best…lets go count our money’ grin shows up.
Since he folds CONSISTENTLY, JJ and Co need to draft a good QB, and put Romo on notice.
Maybe Tony is a good backup… or the Bears could trade for him… under a new head coach.

    That’s my QB man!!
I like the way Dallas Cowboy fan, constantly says:
“Tony Romo is a very good QB, and he will get us to the playoffs” Folks, Matt Schaub is a very good QB with arguably the best WR in the game…what has that produced?
Best of luck tomorrow night Dallas Cowboy fan…I hope Rom-O-Choke and Da BOYZ worked on the silent snap count!

Nice to see an Eagles fan so concerned with how long it’s been since the Cowboys have won a certain game.. down to the day.
Since you seem to be pretty good at keeping up with such things, when is the last time Philly won a Super Bowl?
Can you get that info for me? I mean, everyone else in the NFC East has one.

    Uh, what?
Phillips says the truth – that entering the 4th quarter Dallas has been either leading or competitive in EVERY GAME THIS YEAR and Florio acts like Wade is some kind of bumpkin?
Wade is exactly right – nobody has blown the Cowboys out this year. They HAVE been competitive in every single game this year.
Lost to the Giants 33-31 in a nail biter.
Lost to Denver 17-10 in a nail biter.
Lost to the Pack 17-7 after entering the 4th quarter tied 3-3.
Lost to the Giants 31-24, by 7 points.
Lost to the Chargers 20-17 after entering the 4th quarter tied 10-10.
So………….excuse me again? Wade is saying something dumb here? How exactly?

    @ chunky soupy sales
Well I figured since every other Cowgirl fan knows history I just thought I would refresh your memory.
    You are all tools..
Janet Jackson has put it best by saying “what have you done for me lately”.
But go ahead throw the championship thing around I can do it too:
The Eagles do have three… 1948, 1949, 1960. But since that was before they called it the Super Bowl I guess they don’t count right? So i guess you would make the same argument that both Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. never won a championship either right? Since it isn’t called the Winston Cup anymore.
But having said all that I brings me back to my original point of WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY? Those Eagles championships above are history as well as the “America’s Team” glory years too.
So…WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?

  46. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 24, 2009 11:54 PM

    @ Theron
I don’t listen to faggy music like you do, if that answers your question.
And no, the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl.
