In the America’s Game episode of the 2006 Steelers, as told by NFL Films, the story is grounded on a promise Ben Roethlisberger made to Jerome Bettis to get him a Super Bowl ring if he returns for one last season.
Bettis was clearly a special figure in Roethlisberger’s life then, but now he’s just another media member saying the Steelers are done.
“I guess he’s entitled to his opinion,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s not on this team, he’s not
in this locker room, so he’s just taking an outside view as all of you [media] guys are. If you don’t know, I don’t think you should speak on
it.”
We have to think, however, that Bettis maintains connections inside the locker room. That’s what made his statements interesting, especially the one about Mike Tomlin’s message not getting through to the team.
Roethlisberger is clearly anxious to end the longest losing streak of his football career at any level.
“For me, you get upset, you get disappointed. I hate losing more than
anything. You have to play your best football to try to get out of it,” Roethlisberger said.
The best way to get Bettis and others to not speak is to do just that.
I think Rothlisberger should keep quiet …about that night in Reno or Tahoe or Vegas or wherever it was. Oh. He did.
Ben seems to neglect one thing; The Steelers are done.
Appears the Squeelers quit on their coach a few games back. Can’t say if it was before the raiders game or after, but allowing a comeback like that at home had to deflate whatever was left.
Ward comments and the back and forth that followed also highlight a team in disarray.
Its funny how all these analyst who use to play on the NFL teams now throw their team under the bus, and speak to the audience as if they know everything going on in the locker rooms. I hate Big Ben, but Bettis of all people needs to shut it up!

When Tiki retired, he was still adored by Giants fans. Then, he opened his mouth. Now, many of those same fans choose to ignore the effort he put forth and all of the franchise records he set.
The real question is if the Steelers have enough pride to pull it together and not embarrass themselves against the Packers.

I think it would actually be the Packers feeling embarassed if they will have layed down to a sorry squad that has lost 5 in a row, with losses to even shittier teams like the Chiefs, Raiders, and Browns.

Going to have to side with Ben on this one. Tubby is not a player anymore regardless if he has ‘connections’ to the locker room (Florio). His job as an ‘analyst’ is to talk about and report the team’s play (i.e. O-line troubles, playcalling, miscommunication in the secondary,etc) not question ‘spirit’ and leadership. That’s more personal and indirectly takes shots at players, coaches and ownership.

The Steelers have hardly “quit.” When teams “quit” they get beat badly. The Steelers may be 6-7, but name me a loss where they got blown out. You can’t, because it hasn’t happened. It’s obvious the defense is not the same without Polamalu and Smith, two of the best at their positions. The Steelers are better than both Green Bay, and especially Baltimore. They’ll win those games for sure.

I disagree with anybody saying Bettis shouldn’t talk. Nobody seems to mind when Harrison or Dungy or Gruden are talking about turmoil on teams. Just because he’s talking about a team he used to play on doesn’t make it any different. The players have dropped the bomb. He wasn’t lying. Bettis was entitled to speak his opinion. And so was Ben. And so each of them did. I have no problem with it as a Steeler fan. Right now there are a lot of unhappy and disappointed players on that team I am sure. They have gotten fried by the local media. That is what happens when you lose 5 in a row and in the manner in which they did. But on the other hand, none of us fans like it either. Bettis is likely still a Steeler fan himself.
The best way to stop the moaning is to come out and play up to their capabilities. And if they do that, they will easily beat the Packers, and anybody else they have to play this year. Easily. But that is yet to be seen if they can play up to their capabilities. Their losses have been close, but they have been losses in the end. They have been their own worst enemy all year long.

This is only news because everyone automatically expects the Steelers to go deep in the playoffs every year. They are the gold standard in the NFL. No other team can say they have appeared in one out of every 6 Superbowls ever played. Nobody else has 6 Lombardis in their trophy case.

Glad your football knowledge is up to date. Dallas has played in 8 and won 5. The Steelers have been to 7 and won 6. So you stated “No other team can say they have appeared in one out of every 6 Superbowls ever played” implying that no one has been to more superbowls, well sir you are wrong.
You are however correct in saying no one else has won 6 though, but Dallas held that lead for quite some time. It will only be a matter of time before they get #6.

steeler fans have every right to blame the refs, a long case can be made of how the refs have cost the steelers over and over again…as can most fans of most teams, of course what they were cost is relative…in steeler terms, in 05 we overcame it(message)
however a critical hold in 07 that resulted in apology letters was missed in a playoff game, we got three letters in 2000, all directly affecting the outcomes of games, that is enough to have displaced the ravens from the playoffs, never hear anyone say the ravens were given a championship do you?

For the record Dallas never “held” the title of most Super Bowls won. They shared it with SF most recently and have never had the outright lead as the mighty Steelers do. Pretty sure that right.

I know how important the Steelers are to me. They’re my team and I love them. But until I started reading PFT, I never realized how important they are to so many other people. That fans of all these other NFL teams would make a point of coming to every Pittsburgh post just to trash-talk my team … well, it’s just amazing that you’re all so fixated on the Steelers. Wow.

Do you have a calendar? Our status as defending champs won’t expire until the next champs are crowned in Feb., which is more than three Sundays from now. And we’ll still be six-time Super Bowl champs. Unless Dallas or San Francisco wins the big one this year, we’ll still hold that distinction by ourselves. Bless your little pea brain.

This team is going through some tough injuries right now(Troy.) . Big Ben’s not close to 100%. Hines Ward has been shut down the last few weeks. I would look reciever in the draft this year, saftey or corner.
