Comments on: League has no response to union’s plan to pay Chad’s fine

I posted this in another Henry thread, but this one’s updated (sorry for the redundancy). As I mentioned in the other thread, not trying to agitate or be an ass; I’m just curious. Also, I didn’t read any of the other stuff about this on PFT, so someone else may have mentioned it.
In regards to Henry’s kids getting additional money or funding from other sources — wasn’t their dad an NFL player that, presumably, made a bigtime salary (compared, say, to what my dad made as an engineer, who got paid pretty well)? Presumably, shouldn’t his kids be seeing some of that salary money coming their way at some point in their futures, and, assuming so, shouldn’t the salary of an NFL player be enough to make those kids pretty well set for life?
Assuming so, why is there a need for external funding sources that are set up to ensure that his kids are set?
As I mentioned in the other thread, if any of my above assumptions are wrong (e.g., Henry’s kids are not entitled to any part of his earnings, Henry had no money saved from his earnings, there are no external sources of funding that go to his kids [i.e., these memorial funds are not in place to generate proceeds for his children] etc.), please feel free to correct. I’m just curious as to why there is a need for external funds that generate money that go to his kids in the first place, when the guy himself was presumably loaded.

The money for fines does not go to the league, it goes to charity. Fining Chad or any other players makes Goodell and the league zero.
The changing numbers gimmick a couple people suggested should not be ok. It has to do with the marketing contracts and the fact that those companies have premade x amount of jerseys to sell for a specified player such as Ochocinco. I don’t think the league allows teams to change numbers in season like that.

I’m not sure if you re-read your post, but honestly it wasn’t that hard at all to find or discover any of them, and I wouldn’t have entertained you by responding to it if you hadn’t gone out of your way to make light of the unfortunate circumstance that surrounded the loss of life.
However, the point of the post was to give you some advice on how to make the most of your future online attempts at humor (or to get a response) without self-sabotaging it, that’s all.
I didn’t have to “get you”, you did that on your own, lol.

He was trying to get his fiance to stop the truck. He even said that if she didn’t stop, that he was going to jump out and kill himself. That’s what I read the other day. Don’t make rude comments about his life if you don’t know what your talking about. He had turned his life around.
And there is scholarship fund in his name for his kids.

I know why Chad is doing it but for some reason it just feels wrong to me. It still seems like “Hey look at me honoring my friend” I don’t want to believe that’s why he’s doing it, but so much of what he does is “Hey look at me” that its hard not to look at anything he does in the same way. When Chad wanted to wear all the pink for breast cancer longer than everyone else it seemed more about him than breast cancer. I don’t hate or dislike Chad but his good deeds always seem to be come into conflict with the NFL at the same time as draw attention to himself.

I think it has to do with the player being on IR before the accident. I doubt a person’s # can be reassigned when on IR.

Chad Johnson just has to take the spotlight, huh.
Slap the #15 black circle sticker on the back of the helmet like everyone else has done for fallen players or coaches (initials) in the past.
I hate to see someone go like that and so young, but he’s no different than anyone else this league’s lost. If Chad wants to honor him, give Henry the start and sit your ass on the bench. Line up with 10 players of the field the same way the Redskins did it. Then Chad can honor him personally while the team honors him too.

I don’t see it as Chad making about him. I see Chad using himself as a “conduit” to show some respect for Chris Henry, because he knows everyone watches him. Since everyone is seeing what 85 is going to do, he is the most logical person in that locker room to do it.

I’m with Quagmire. Honor your friend by taking care of his kids. If Chad is sincerely grieving, he needs to make sure he is a POSITIVE male role model for Henry’s kids and makes sure they can go to any college they want. That’s the greatest tribute you can pay to the man – caring for his children and making sure their future is a brighter and more stable life than their father lived.

How do you know he is not going to do this? And it’s sports. The way that people honor other Athlete’s is by patches and decals. Pat Tillman, Jackie Robinson, Red Auerbach, etc. Stop being stupid or trying to find something wrong with it by acting like it doesn’t happen all of the time in sports.
That said, if he did say that he was going to do that, you guys would probably be the first ones to say that he’s bringing attention to himself by announcing it and that he should just shut his mouth and do it because if he was doing it to be honorable, he wouldn’t open his mouth about it.

I’m glad Ocho is going to do the right thing. I like the fact he’s going to wear Henry’s jersey. Henry was a good player, could have been great. The kid had tons of potential and was just turning his life around. What a tragic ending to life that was starting to look bright.
