Holmgren's decision could be coming Monday

Both Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Chris Mortensen of ESPN report that former Packers and Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren is expected to give the Browns a response to a pending job offer on Monday.

Grossi says that it  appears Holmgren will take the job because it includes the option to coach the team in addition to serving as the chief executive.  (Such an approach potentially opens a can of worms under the Rooney Rule, but Holmgren easily could comply by interviewing at least one minority candidate, before then hiring himself.)

Mort reports that the offer is in the range of $50 million over ten years, an average of only (only?) $5 million per season.

Meanwhile, FOX’s Jay Glazer reports that the Seahawks made a serious run at hiring Holmgren into a Bill Parcells-type role, but that Holmgren’s demands were too great.  This report conflicts with rumors and reports that the Seahawks weren’t serious about bringing back the Big Show, and that they extended an offer they knew he wouldn’t accept.

    “The Walrus” will automatically command respect coming from that organization.

    What are the reports of the “non” offer?
    You cite Jay Glazer for a serious offer and give links to other articles, but continue to claim “reports” that the Seahawks made a lowball offer to Holmgren

    Hey NumbleNuts? Do some friggin research!
    “That” organisation has won 4 NFL Championships- 1950, 1955, 1954 and 1964!
    Why is it the Browns fault idiots like you have no sense of NFL history?

    BorrisBulldog……….. F’ Off!!
    The mentioning of Holmgren was directed at the current state of the Browns, NOT the past.
    You are too dumb to figure that out, go back and repeat 3rd grade you friggin’ retard.

    50 over 10 years?? Is that correct? If it is, then Dan Snyder is about to get raped on a Shanahan contract over 7 a year at least. How much is Cowher going to want? Was he successful enough to command 7 or 8 per? Holmgren is a down right steal at 5 per. Cleveland has many years of success coming down their pipeline, at a cheap price, if he accepts the deal.

    Dear Boris;
    Didn’t that organization move to Baltimore at some point in time?
    That would mean that the “Current” organization has not won anything.

    If Mike is in cleveland say bye to the underacheving Brady Quinn.Mike will most likly draft a quarterback in the first round of the draft.

    Brady has not played that bad, also he really hasnt had the chance to be THE guy in Cleveland. He has a total of 12 starts in 3 years as of right now. So, this is actually is first year as THE guy for the Browns. I dont think the team lets him go after only one year as the starting QB for the Browns. Referring to the draft, I think they take Eric Berry from Tenn.

    travfire7…
    I agree completely. Those who believe the Browns will draft a QB with the first pick either believe the Browns to be complete idiots (which may be a fair assertion) or don’t know football. The team has waaaay too many holes to waste a pick on a QB at this point.

    @matt69923:
    jay glazer reported Holmgren’s demands were too high for Seattle.
    PFT, i.e. Florio, the STEELERS homer, said in a story a few days ago that Seattle low balled the future BROWNS football czar cuz they didnt want him.

    “The likely reality, in our view, is that Holmgren was given an offer that the team knew he’d refuse.”
