Giants fans hoping for their team to get some help on the way to a playoff berth got a mixed bag of news Sunday.
Philadelphia’s win over San Francisco guaranteed the Giants will not defend their NFC East title. The only way in to the playoffs is through a wild card spot. But New York basically knew that.
(Also: Philadelphia clinched a playoff spot with two weeks left. Pretty amazing considering they were once 5-4.)
On the plus side for New York, Green Bay’s loss to the Pittsburgh gives the Giants a better chance of grabbing one of those wild card spots. New York still needs plenty of help, but they will hold the tiebreaks over Green Bay or Dallas.
Basically, the Giants must find a way to finish with the same record as Dallas or Green Bay. The Cowboys close with the Redskins and Eagles. The Packers host the Seahawks, then head to Arizona.
We’re not convinced the G-Men will even win in Washington Monday night, but Tom Coughlin’s bunch has dug out of bigger messes than this to make the playoffs before.
That, my friends, was PATHETIC.
The things that stick out like a sore thumb are the lousy run blocking and lack of a legitimate number one receiver.
The receivers are covered like a blanket two thirds of the time. There isn’t much Brett can do about that. Brett can’t block for the offensive line.
People point fingers at Adrian, but he has no blocking.

Not really…….The entire NFC east is simply mediocre..Foregone conclusion…..What’s amazing is they did it without B-West…Now it’s time to dust off the Dawk jersey’s fellas…Give him his deserved Standing O….For a LONG time…..
The Eagles are fire right now and it feels like they’re just starting to fire on all cylinders. Deion said it and if Deion is saying the Eagles are playing better then any team in the NFC I tend to believe him. Even Rich Eisen said something along those lines and he has been trying to tear down the Eagles every chance hes got.
It feels like the Eagles had a bad game if they didnt win by 17. Like everyone said with the Saints it might be better for them to lose a game before the playoffs start I kinda feel the same way. Now I know the Eagles havent won nearly as many in a row as the Saints but going into the playoffs on a 7 game winning streak and then trying to win 4 more is hard.
So I think it might help the Eagles to lose to the Broncos blow out the Cowboys knock them out of the playoffs and then make their nearly annual trip to the NFC Championship game(After beating the Vikings and Giants) and hopefully win another one on their way to a 1st Superbowl win(I know u idiot Cowboys fans u got 5 but when was that? They were so long ago even Michael Irvin wants to give them back)
@EskinSux:
If the NFC East is so mediocre, why will it have at least 2 teams – and an NFC East team is the only other possibility from the current 5 and 6 seeds?
If any of the top 3 teams got to play in the NFC South or West this year, any of them would also be 13-1 or 12-2. You can’t forget they all play each other twice a year, which depresses the standings and stats.
“The Eagles are fire right now”
Easy to be on fire against bad teams
The only idiot fans are in Philly, you filthy white trash losers, who piss in trash cans and sinks. Instead of talking about Super Bowls that Dallas has won, just focus on how big of a loser your qb and coach are everytime they get close!
Um, the Giants hold the tiebreaker over the Cowboys but NOT over the Packers. First tiebreaker of two teams from different divisions that did not play each other is conference record. If GB beats SEA OR ARZ then NYG cannot have a better conference record than GB. So then it would come down to SOV which is very much not decided since both GB and NYG have racked up a bunch of wins over junk teams and the only “good” wins for NYG are DAL twice and the Packer have GB and BAL.
My Dawk jersey will make it’s final trip to LFF this weekend. 2 more Eagles victories coupled with a Vikings loss puts the Eagles with a bye week as the 2 seed. There’s no way in hell I want the Eagles to lose either of their last two games. And as for 36, I hope he plays this week as a final regular season farewell. He’s got nothin left and I wish him a happy retirement. Eagles all the way!
@ FLPackerBacker
You’re wrong. If the Giants and Packers finish with identical overall records, their conference records will also be the same. (Currently, the Packers are 7-3 in their conference record; and the Giants are 5-4. Both have only conference games remaining. Say the Giants win 3 and the Packers win 1, both will have 8-4 conference records. Similarly, if Giants win 2 and Packers win 0, both will have 7-5 conference records.)
With that being said, the next tiebreaker after the conference record is each team’s respective records against common opponents. The common opponents between the two teams are Dallas, Tampa Bay, Minnesota. Against those 3 teams, the Packers are 1-3. The Giants, however, are 3-0 (with a game remaining against Minny).
Therefore, Giants hold the tiebreaker over the Packers.
@TurnYourHeadandCough
It does look like the Giants will hold the tiebreaker over GB. However you are forgetting GB plays Arizona the final week of the season which is one more common opponent. And a game the NYG lost.
@TurnYourHeadAndCough
GB plays Arizona the final week of the season. A game, which NYG lost. Isn’t that another common opponent?
