Ravens lose another cornerback for the season

Less than a month after losing cornerback Fabian Washington for the season to a torn ACL, the Ravens have lost another starting cornerback to the same injury.

Rookie Lardarius Webb will miss the rest of the season, according to the Twitter account of old PFT comrade Aaron Wilson, who covers the Ravens for the Carroll County Times.

Webb had grown in Baltimore’s best cover cornerback of late and returned kicks, so it’s a significant loss.

Next stop for the shaky Ravens secondary: Pittsburgh, where Ben Roethlisberger is coming off a 500-yard game.  (Gulp.)

EXTREMELY significant. That’s a 10 point swing for the other team for the rest of their season. Mostly because Webb was the only good CB on the Ravens.

dude, Ravens will destroy Pittsburgh. gulp indeed.

a very young and exciting bright spot among atrocious cornerbacks. i really enjoyed watching him play. this is a huge loss and i expect us to get shredded going forward. if walker starts just throw the penalty flag now for pass interference… he is easily the worst cornerback to play in the nfl the past 50 years.

Pitt will beat Baltimore, Miami will beat Pitt. Miami walks into playoffs.

Today the Steelers dropped 600 yards of total offense on the league’s #1 ranked defense through 15 weeks.
Next, the Ravens. A team who routinly thinks they’re the #1 defense in the league even thought the stats say otherwise.
    Should be fun.

  7. Lombardi 6 says: Dec 21, 2009 12:20 AM

    Who names their kid Lardarius??

  8. CharmCityRavens says: Dec 21, 2009 12:44 AM

I would just like to say thank you to PFT for finally getting it right and quoting Aaron Wilson rather than hack and wannabe Ravens insider Mike Preston.
I heard that Webb isn’t having his MRI tests until tomorrow, so I’ll hold out some hope…but if he’s done this is a huge blow to the Ravens.
Now Frank Walker will get the start at corner which means we’ll see more yellow rags on the field (for PI calls against Walker by the refs) than being waved in the stands (by the mullethead fans).

I think the Ravens should gulp, they have nothing to be proud of , yea they have had 2 big wins as of late but against who…The Lions and the Bears,,,and considering you beat the Steelers down 2 of thier main starters and with a 3rd string QB by only 3 points ,,,yea I would be worried to , we still might be without Troy , but I think Ben proved today he is back….Good Luck Ravens next Sunday…

  10. ADAMWD says: Dec 21, 2009 12:46 AM

And the playoff hopes go out the window. Webb was holding our secondary together. Now we are stuck with Foxworth and Walker. Foxworth trips every other play and Walker can’t go five minutes without causing a penalty. Big Ben will probably hit 550 yards passing next week…

  11. Adam David says: Dec 21, 2009 12:48 AM

@laxer37 I do believe the Packers were like 3rd or 4th defense NOT the first..
And the ravens have not claimed to have the number 1 defense at all this year, its the media saying we are tough..
Look at the ravens last 2 game Albeit against the lions and bears but holding back to back teams no matter who they are to no offensive touchdowns. Its the NFL i say thats a feat no matter who they are..
And before all the steelers fans come out talking about who we just beat.. You guys LOST to the Bears. And almost lost to the lions.. So I don’t think you have much room to talk.. though I am sure you will find a reason anyway..
Not to mention *cough cough * Chiefs and browns..
But ask a steelers fan they will tell you they have this game in the bag..

  12. cunn9305 says: Dec 21, 2009 1:15 AM

Yeah we might lose if Ben’s arm falls off after his 50th completion against that pass D …

  13. Darth Vader says: Dec 21, 2009 2:29 AM

To all the pissed off lunatics who inhabit the Steel City: We have played three freaking games without Ed Reed and he will return for this one I promise you so Lardarius Webb being out won’t kill us our secondary as a whole has improve even without Reed. We will have Suggs, Reed and a healthy Ngata for the first time in 2 months. Your defense sucks. I mean really sucks, as in a miserable, pathetic group of try-hards in the front 7 and blind DB’s. The Ravens don’t lose to fools who can’t withstand the Chiefs, Raiders and oh yeah BEARS WHO GOT STOMPED BY US AND KNOCKED THE HELL OUTTA YOU

  14. Ravenmaniac says: Dec 21, 2009 6:43 AM

@Bens Attorney…you are correct, we did crush 2 not so good teams in our past 2 outings….lets not forget 3 of the 5 recent steeler losses came to the leagues worst…..
I am not thrilled with the match up of our secondary against ben this coming weekend..but looking at the above, I have not given up hope.

  15. MSWRavens says: Dec 21, 2009 7:20 AM

You Steelers fans are hilarious! Your team is coming apart at the seams. Your locker room & coaches have been exposed. Your season is over…and you still talk crap! Whether it’s the Ravens or some other team, enjoy watching the playoffs from your couch, nestled in some shanty in that cesspool you live in!

  16. Katmanduu says: Dec 21, 2009 7:43 AM

    CHOO CHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s the sound of the excuse train. Just counting the minutes to hearing the Ravens with their excuses after the Steelers drill them this weekend. Nothing like seeing the Baltimoron fan base choking on their Christmas gifts.
Raven fans, you lucked out a few weeks ago when Ben was out. Not this time, ladies. Not this time.

  17. steeltownpride says: Dec 21, 2009 9:02 AM

One little tid bit that might be of some intrest here . I have the sneaky feeling with a small glimmer of playoff hope left . Dont be surprised if you happen to see a sighting of ole # 43 next weekend in the game . Im not saying , im just sayin .
It will be a good game thats for sure . Anytime these 2 teams play throw the records out . Nothing would be sweeter than to see the Steelers knock the Ravens out of the playoffs . Even if we dont make it , such small and trivial things like this can make the season a little better .
Not one Steeler fan here should be talking trash with such stellar loses to the Raiders Cheifs and Brownies . But with all do respect . We do play well against the better teams in the league . but we shall see next sunday in the Burgh . The towels and mullets will be flying high for Christmas .

  18. CharmCityRavens says: Dec 21, 2009 9:20 AM

Wow 1 win in 6 tries makes the Black’n'Fold crowd a confident bunch!
You should be more worried about your head coach who tried to give the game away yesterday with that boneheaded onside kick!
Seriously, is there lead in Iron City beer or paint chips in Primanti Bros. sandwiches?

  19. Return to Festivus says: Dec 21, 2009 9:31 AM

Good teams beat those who they are supposed to beat. We were supposed to beat the bears and lions and we did so soundly. Nobody brags about that in baltimore.
I cant believe im doin this but i am pulling a page out of the steelers fan book. We all know how you guys love to talk about the past.
Yea we beat you the first game and you didnt have troy and ben. but remember last year when we played the most of the season without our starting secondary and with a third string qb. We didnt talk shit about how we didnt have those players, we have a philosophy here and its next man up!
So quit boo hooing now about not having them last game. Even though walker is a walking PI flag and that doubles when you play the steelers he will hold his own like he did last year.
So have fun on your couches (aka the back seat out of a van) in your trailer homes in steel city watching the ravens in the playoffs. This sunday we are going end your playoffs hopes till next season.

maybe not #1, but the Ravens are still #6 against the pass, #7 against the run, #4 overall, and #2 in points allowed per game. not as horrendous as everyone seems to think

  24. steeltownpride says: Dec 21, 2009 11:02 AM

Dont be scared now . This is football . Are you affraid the Steelers after loosing to the worst of the NFL still has a small chance to make the playoffs ? You ALL know the Steelers are the last team anyone wants to see make the playoffs .
I wonder why ? Yeah you know why . We all know why . If we make it or dont . One thing is true . Ravens wont win sunday . Take that to the bank .

  25. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 21, 2009 11:03 AM

The Ravens may have only beaten the Lions and the Bears, but at least they weren’t losing to Cleveland, Oakland and KC.

DANG IT’S FUN WATCHIN THE STEELER AND RAVEN FANS BARKING AT EACH OTHER WHILE THE BENGALS ARE ON THE VERGE OF CLINCHING THE DIVISION!!!
    MUHAHAHAUHAHA

  27. Holeinone09 says: Dec 21, 2009 11:14 AM

Listen up Steeler haters. The past does not matter come this Sunday at Heinz field. It is a bitter rivalry and should be a great game, no matter who beat or lost to who in the last week/month/year. Who in the hell cares at this point? The game still has meaning with the Steelers having some playoff hopes. I am very happy that we got a win finally yesterday and that Ben came through big time. I am also still worried about the defense leaking, especially late in the game. But when these 2 teams get together it is usually a close, classic hard-hitting game in any event.
And if the Steelers manage to sneak into the playoffs after being their own worst enemy for most of the year, the rest of the playoff teams should look out. Nobody wants to play us, and everybody that does considers it their Super Bowl.
    GO STEELERS!!

  28. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 21, 2009 11:32 AM

One good thing for the Steelers if they make the playoffs.. They won’t have to play Cleveland, Oakland or KC.
So they have that going for them.

  29. Adam David says: Dec 21, 2009 11:38 AM

    @JungleJuice
Keep in mind son, that if you guys lose out, and the ravens win out, we have the division which would be a giant slap in the face to you Bungle Juice i mean Jungle Juice

  30. i'm president charlie! says: Dec 21, 2009 12:34 PM

Pittsburgh = most livable city/city of champions
Baltimore = city most likely to get shot in or contract AIDS
Lets be real here…neither of these teams deserve to get to the playoffs….this game will be about pride and bragging rights….love it

  31. Jungle Juice says: Dec 21, 2009 1:19 PM

    @AdamDavid
Yeah, keep that dream alive Adam Lambert. I don’t think you even get past the Steelers.
