Saints running back Reggie Bush injured his leg during the second quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Cowboys.
The official play-by-play of the game reveals that it occurred with 3:16 to play in the half. His return was listed at the time as doubtful.
He caught a 16-yard pass and pulled up hobbling. Lance Moore handed Bush’s punt-return duties the rest of the way.
Before leaving, Bush had a 29-yard run. He caught one other pass for a one-yard gain.
Given the inability of the Vikings to contain Bush on punt returns during a 2008 regular-season Monday night game, an injury that could make him unavailable for several weeks could be problematic for the Saints if/when the two teams get together in the postseason.
Then again, a Vikings-Saints NFC title game suddenly is looking a lot less inevitable than it did 12 hours ago.
