Bills could be forced to turn to Brohm

No wonder Terrell Owens is starting to look forward to next season.

The Bills may be forced to start Brian Brohm at quarterback Sunday against Atlanta following ankle injuries to Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards.

This is the same Brohm that was plucked off Green Bay’s practice squad a month ago.  Also the same Brohm that was passed by seventh-rounder Matt Flynn and couldn’t make the Packers one year after being taken in the second round of the 2009 draft.

Brohm hasn’t taken a single rep with the Bills offense since joining the team; he’s simply handled scout team duties.

That may change on Wednesday because Edwards was carted off the field Sunday after a brief appearance.  When Fitzpatrick re-entered in the fourth quarter, he also hurt his ankle, but toughed it out to finish off the game.  Fitzpatrick was originally benched for performance.

“Anybody that plays in this league wants to be on the field and I’m no different,” Brohn said Monday.  “I’ll be ready if called upon.”

Coach Perry Fewell has to be hoping that isn’t necessary.

Who cares how many reps he’s taken. You could grab some guy off the street and he could do better than Fitzpatrick and a guy who gets hurt every other game.

Maybe Florio should tryout and post the video here

Taken in second round of TWOTHOUSANDEIGHT draft (not 2009)

    who is brohn?

  5. jibfest says: Dec 21, 2009 6:40 PM

Ah a cast off from when Favre decided last minute he wanted to play for the Packers again. Brohn woulda never been picked if Queen Favre decided he wasn’t going to string out his retirement like he did again this year.

I pity the Bills if they have to play Brohm. He was terrible in the Packer’s pre seasons, both of them. He couldn’t follow the progression, didn’t throw when they were open, threw into double coverages when they weren’t.
If the Packers cut a 2nd rounder after 2 years, does that give you an indication of how bad he was? He was so bad that the Vikings didn’t even bother signing him and they take Packer cast offs all the time.

I’m almost beginning to feel sorry for TO… Almost.

  8. benjua says: Dec 21, 2009 6:47 PM

why does Fewell have to hope it isn’t necessary to get a look at a different QB, who showed plenty of ability in college, when they ones they have aren’t getting it done?

why the hell not. who cares about TO

Hopefully thriller wears his glove. T.O will catch 22 balls for sure.

What’s the worst that could happen
We’re 5-9. Let’s see what we have in this kid. He was a 2nd round pick last year, for christ sakes.

I’d like to see Brohm come in and do whatever it is he does – suck or otherwise.
Since they’ve acquired him they’ve tried to “protect” him and I don’t see the reason. They keep saying they’re gonna’ wait until next year. Why?
So he can blow right out of the gate next year and we’re back to square -1? Throw him to the wolves these last two games, see what you have, and then you can think about next year.
Personally, I’d like to see the Bills go after Jason Campbell after he and Zorn get the shaft in a few weeks. But then again, knowing this team, we’ll go after Ryan Leaf instead.

There are two things left for Buffalo to play for: pride and draft picks. If we can get a handle on how good/bad this guy is in the next two games, I’m fine with that.

Braum is terrible! In GB he stunk it up.

    Brohn! First?

Brohm was awful for Green Bay in two preseasons. Hope he can turn it around. Guy had to wear gloves in August to hang onto the ball.

  17. Love_Boat_Scandal says: Dec 21, 2009 7:32 PM

To be fair, Flynn has surpassed all expectations and is going to be a decent QB in this league. But Brohm has a long way to go. His confidence was shot when he was in GB.

i love the bills but their QB situation has gotta be the worst in the league.

    Brohm you moron

  20. reddog9 says: Dec 21, 2009 7:56 PM

Play the kid. It is Fewell (he sucks almost as bad as Dick Mauron) fault that the kid has not had any snaps in practice. Brohm has been on the roster for over a month! Let him practice you fools! Fitz and Edwards are awful, so how bad can the kid be…….lets find out now in this “extended preseason”!

  21. Matty Ice says: Dec 21, 2009 8:15 PM

All I know is I’m running out to get the Atlanta defense for fantasy.

  22. jimmySee says: Dec 21, 2009 8:21 PM

Give the kid a shot. Tom Brady was a nobody until New England gave him a shot. Kurt Warner was a nobody until he was given a shot. That’s how talent emerges.

  23. troy brown80 says: Dec 21, 2009 8:49 PM

as a pats fan id like the bills to go after campbell too.

  24. last starfighter says: Dec 21, 2009 8:50 PM

I really thought Brohm would be a good pro. He might have had a chance if he stayed in GB and continued to get coaching. If he starts for Buffalo this week he could honestly go 0/20 with 15 ints. He has almost no confidence on the field.

  25. patsSB44champs says: Dec 21, 2009 8:51 PM

How about getting an offensive line to keep the quarterback on his feet? Our pitiful pass rush put Bills QB’s on their backs six times yesterday.

  26. Lumas101 says: Dec 22, 2009 1:50 AM

Like a lot of other people, I would like to see Brohm get a chance. At least the next coach, whoever he may be, can have a little game film to look at to decide whether he has a QB to work with, and can use the first few draft picks to make the team better around him, or if Brohm seems to really be as bad as those two preseasons indicated, and the first pick needs to be a quarterback.
If he comes out and surprises and plays well and wins one or both of the games left, great. If he plays terrible and they lose them both, better draft pick. It’s better than wasting time with Fitzpatrick or Edwards.

  27. TitanicComeback says: Dec 22, 2009 1:51 AM

Brohm has played awful in the few preseason snaps he has actually gotten.
This is the same Brohm that was slated to be a top 10 pick if he came out his Junior year. McShay and Kiper were doing there usual smooz jobs on him. Then he decides to stay, Louisville goes 6-6, and he falls into relative obscurity. GB thought they got a steal in the 2nd, and then cut him.
He may still become a good QB, but it should serve as a cautionary tale as to how much a crap shoot drafting QB’s actually is, and further, how much a crap shoot the entire Draft process is, including the so called “Experts”.

  28. finsbooyah says: Dec 22, 2009 9:21 AM

…and to think this guy would’ve been a first round draft pick if he came out in ’07
