Cowboys replacing Nick Folk with Shaun Suisham

The Dallas Cowboys are finally changing kickers.

After trying out kickers today in response to Nick Folk nearly costing them Saturday’s game against the Saints, the Cowboys have decided to sign former Redskins kicker Shaun Suisham, Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting.

Suisham’s first game will be on Sunday against the Redskins. In 12 games for the Redskins this season, Suisham made 18 of 21 field goal attempts, with a long of 48 yards.

There’s no word yet on whether the Cowboys have cut Folk, as Ed Werder of ESPN reported that they might put him on injured reserve. But either way, Suisham is now the Cowboys’ kicker.

And homo is still the holder so if you keep him away from the corn on the cob during the games he may be able to hold on to the ball

  2. mashoaf says: Dec 21, 2009 5:51 PM

So what you are really saying is that the Cowboys have 3 kickers under contract right now.

  3. whoaleckna says: Dec 21, 2009 5:52 PM

    Why did they cut Folk?
    and
Why did the Redskins cut Susham?
    classic

    lend the packers a kicker

  5. DJ says: Dec 21, 2009 5:56 PM

Pokes now have two kickers under contract that have missed their last two kicks..and they both happen to be under 29 yds.
    Sure…..things are different this year

  6. GregO says: Dec 21, 2009 5:58 PM

Always makes me chuckle when a team cuts a kicker for ineffectiveness then runs out and signs another kicker who was cut for ineffectiveness.

  7. JoaquinFenix says: Dec 21, 2009 5:59 PM

Two PKs and not a one who could kick field goals?
Suisham’s shank against N.O. was eerily similar to Folk’s, but his 18-21 season % is stellar compared to the year Folk is having.

  8. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 21, 2009 5:59 PM

BigBluefan is not only the first to post on a COWBOY’s thread, he also proves “homo” is a favorite word in his lexicon. ( look it up, Giants fan.)

  9. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 21, 2009 6:00 PM

    And as for suisham signing..
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. SaintsBaby says: Dec 21, 2009 6:02 PM

So the Coyboys are replacing a player who ALMOST cost them the game against the Saints for a player who DID cost the Redskins the game against the Saints.
That is the funniest thing I have heard this season. That is a sign of good management. Jerry Jones is a genius.

  11. Bob S. says: Dec 21, 2009 6:03 PM

suisham was once before cut by the cowboys BEFORE he went to the redskins

  12. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 21, 2009 6:05 PM

And as for the Suisham wants to get even with the Skins for cutting him angle, well, The Cowboys cut him before the Skins signed him and he missed a FG against the Cowboys.
    Awesome.

  13. Soia311 says: Dec 21, 2009 6:05 PM

3 kickers under contract and not one of them can make a game winner under 30 yards…

  14. Asswipe Johnson (Pronounced Az-Wee-Pay) says: Dec 21, 2009 6:06 PM

    B-d b-d b-d that’s all Folk…

  15. troll_aikman8 says: Dec 21, 2009 6:06 PM

Folk was steller for his first 2yrs. May be his offseason hip surgery jacked him up. I’m not opposed to keeping him around on IR.

  16. Leviathan says: Dec 21, 2009 6:09 PM

Compare Suisham’s kicks this year to Folks. Bunch of braniacs here in the comment section.

  17. DJSlyBri says: Dec 21, 2009 6:13 PM

Hilarious. One guy who can’t make a 20-yd FG for another. May Jerry Jones live forever.

  18. NFLJunkie says: Dec 21, 2009 6:13 PM

I love how people drag Romo into this. But don’t look now because Romo’s numbers are up to Rivers level and he is playing as well as any QB in the league currently.
People just don’t want to admit it though so they just bring up their December record over and over again instead to try and hide it.
Now I’m not saying Romo is going to run the rest of the table in December and finally win a playoff game, but give him his credit where it’s due. He is finally NOT the reason that the Cowboys have lost 5 games overall and 2 in December.

  19. Brandon Folsom says: Dec 21, 2009 6:13 PM

Lions need a new kicker too.

The Eagirls have 52 guys under contract that got their asses kicked by the Cowboys in Philly just a couple of months ago.

  21. PFTiswhatitis says: Dec 21, 2009 6:20 PM

I could do better than Folk

“Always makes me chuckle when a team cuts a kicker for ineffectiveness then runs out and signs another kicker who was cut for ineffectiveness.”
Yeah well I’m not sure that anybody should be looking to the Redskins as a model of what to do in a given situation. 18 of 21 kicks is not bad, good enough to be in the top half of the NFL percentage-wise but even if it were not, it’s a lot better than Folk’s 65%.

  23. skinzboy21 says: Dec 21, 2009 6:25 PM

hahahaha..now we’re gonna beat the cowboys next sunday. suisham costed us the game on two missed field goals against the cowboys. then he blew it on 23 yards against the saints

  24. BuckyBadger says: Dec 21, 2009 6:26 PM

Hope the Packers do the same. Crosby has it in his head right now and you can’t be making a playoff push with a mentally damaged kicker.

  25. boyzfan says: Dec 21, 2009 6:38 PM

Thank you NFLJunkie. I am so tired of people blaming Romo 4 everything. The game against the Saints he did his job very well. I do not know why people hate on the boyz. I grew up a fan and I will always be a fan. I am not so crazy about Jerry Jones because he wants to be a coach and no just an owner and I think that has cost us but unfortunately it is his toy. I am just a loyal fan who wants to see them winning again. I guess the reason why people hate them so bad is they are jealous and have been on the wrong end of the win.

Hmm. If 20-16 is an ass kicking, then what is 44-6?

  27. bluestree says: Dec 21, 2009 6:38 PM

Well, he already knows how to find the stadium, and they know what size shoes he needs, what the hell, it’s just a kicker. Titans got Bironas as a Packers castoff. Lightning strikes.

  30. Bwa Ha Ha says: Dec 21, 2009 6:44 PM

Hey Vox, how was the witless protection program? Hopefully you made reservations to return again the next time the Cows lose.
Great move by the Cows too, If Suisham blows one against the Skins, the poety will be perfect, he will have won one for the Skins while wearing the star on his noggin!!!

  31. WildBirdOffense says: Dec 21, 2009 6:45 PM

Eagles got their ass kicked in Philly by the Cowboys? LMAO. 20-16 is barely skating by. Now, if you would say a score like 44-6….yea….thats an ass kicking.

  32. howiseeit says: Dec 21, 2009 6:45 PM

skinzboy21 – He “costed” you the game? What a crying shame!

  33. lithiumfx26 says: Dec 21, 2009 6:46 PM

How about them cowgirls? 3 kickers and they all are mediocre at best if that. Does it matter? It is December. Def. a Jerruh decision.

  36. IronPig says: Dec 21, 2009 6:57 PM

  37. NoKoolaidCowboy says: Dec 21, 2009 7:09 PM

Suisham is a good kid. I rooted for him before, and I’ll be rooting for him again.
Unfortunately, our kicking problems (Folk was awesome before, what happened?) are coachable. But since we know the deal there, Jerry had to open his wallet.
The worst part is we have to make a big deal about kickers. Kickers, seriously? That’s what it’s come down?
Well, we may have had games where we’ve handed other teams their asses in the past but the Eagles handed us ours when it counted most.
And I’d hate to think that it is going to have to come down to kickers.

  38. Katmanduu says: Dec 21, 2009 7:20 PM

Two clown franchises at work. No wonder both teams are among the most hated. Neither team will ever win anything with those owners. With that said, how great would it be if Suisham beats the Deadskins with a last second FG? I think we’ll all laugh our asses off…..except for the 24 or so Deadskin fans.

‘Folk was steller for his first 2yrs. May be his offseason hip surgery jacked him up. I’m not opposed to keeping him around on IR.”
I have no problem putting an injured guy on IR either.
But if his hip really was bothering him, why not address the issue much earlier in the season and why go through the hullabaloo over blaming the holder and such nonsense?
It just seems like two games left in the season is a retarded time to try to address such an important issue. And add to that that Dallas is signing a kicker they cut who was then cut by Washington for the same reason they are replacing Fol.. for missing FG’s and short ones at that.
It’s like every time something goes right in Dallas they want to screw something else up and some decisions, like this one just isn’t worth defending them against.

Shut up. You got lit up by DeMarcus Russel. Your not the Saints, your simple offense hasn’t seen a defense like ours…oh….wait…..20-16…
BTW all-time: Good Guys 56 – Eturds 43……who owns who.

Uuhhhh, yes for the first time in 15 years. By the way that was not the Super Bowl, it was just a December game which I know that they are hard to come by for you guys.
Savor the flavor. Maybe by Jan. we can get all of our defensive players back. Its hard to stop anybody with people off of the street. Take 6 starters off of the Cowboys defense and see how they would perform.

  46. chunky soupy sales says: Dec 21, 2009 8:11 PM

“Hmm. If 20-16 is an ass kicking, then what is 44-6?”
A sign that the Eagles can’t handle the Cowboys this year like they did last year?

  47. Bobby McShanklebee says: Dec 21, 2009 9:15 PM

It’s funny how the Cowboys keep bringing up the 20-16 “ass kicking” from earlier this year and how they think because they are at home next time its an easy win. In 2007, the Cowboys did kick the Eagles ass in Philly 38-17 and what happened when you played them in Dallas later that year? 10-6 Eagles. So keep thinking that Saints game was the turning point because the week 15 win over the Giants last year was the turning point too. And by turning point I mean getting outscored 77-20 the last two games.

  48. DJSlyBri says: Dec 22, 2009 5:35 AM

The Eagirls have 52 guys under contract that got their asses kicked by the Cowboys in Philly just a couple of months ago.
That’s right. And there is no doubt when the stakes are the biggest, the Cowboys will come up big, just like they did last year.

  49. Spiffy Kiffy says: Dec 22, 2009 9:19 AM

Just go for it on 4th down once you are in field goal range. You have better odds that way.
