By now, you’ve probably heard how Brad Childress tried to remove Brett Favre from Sunday night’s game in the third quarter.
Hopefully, you’ve also read Florio’s take on why Chilly is walking funny in The Morning After.
It’s only fair to hear from the man himself. (And we know who “The Man” is in Minnesota now.) Here’s Brett Favre discussing the aborted benching attempt.
Brett thanks for coming back this season!
Favre had a chance at being considered one of the greatest. But now everyone will remember him as a spoiled, whiny diva who chokes. He was cool with alienating all of his Green Bay fans at the price of another Lombardi trophy, but now he’s going to end up with no fans when he is done destroying minniapolis’s team.
Why can’t Favre the media whore just let it go instead of flexing his redneck ass in front of every camera in sight. He is a disgusting person to say the least. But Chilly wanted Brat and he got Brat.
40 years old, getting the shit kicked out of him, and he still wants to play. Gotta love this guy! The vikes need to fix that o line asap if they want to compete in the playoffs. They can’t pass protect or run block! I think the way they’re playing right now, Green Bay will take them out in the divisional round….if they don’t meet in the wild card.
Aborted…? Brett Favre is a baby killer! Hey, Florio…run with that!
Well, then lets talk about Peyton Manning a couple years ago going for it on 4th down after God Dungy wanted to punt. Didn’t Manning stay on the field and run the offense?
Guess Dungy has been walking funny for quite a while now too.
The entire team should have been removed from the feild, then the state, then the country, then the hemisphere, then the planet. Move to the space station and let them sit there for the week and think about how they have such trouble with sub .500 teams AND trouble on prime time games. Then let the come back and play a sub .500 team on prime time and see if they learned anything.
GBP and Chunky, you guys are idiots. Chilly wanted to pull him cause he was getting killed, not because of poor play. He wanted to stay in and play even though he was getting killed. Dipshits.
You now, no QB has ever defied his coach… like Manning waving off an on coming field goal unit to go for it on 4th down.
Save us from lawyers and their limited football knowledge….
Here it is straight from the mouth of a die hard lifelong Viking fan.
1. Childress is a complete moron. You don’t take out your starting QB when you have a 1 point lead to put in Tarvaris Jackson who couldn’t get the job done in all the opportunities he had. He may have been trying to protect him for the future games and the playoffs, but the Vikings are trying to get the #1 seed, and trying to hang on to the #2 seed.
2. GB fans, I know the bashing will come from you, and if it happens oh well. The fact of the matter is this, the Vikings got beat up by a team that is not in their league plain and simple. This is the time of the year when good teams are supposed to peak, and the Vikings aren’t doing that. Is that Favre’s fault? No, its because he is not getting time to throw. The OL was owned last night, and they need to fix that.
The Vikings deserve the bashing they will get this week because they do it to themselves. If they want to be respected, then go out there and earn it. I am so tired of the this poor tackling, and handing the momentum to their opponents. If they don’t get things turned around in the next couple of weeks, it very well could be 1 and done in the playoffs, and they will have no one to blame for that but themselves.
This is the reason why Viking fans wanted the Wilf’s to wait until the offseason to extend Childress. Now we are stuck with that idiot for the long haul. Thanks Wilf.
Florio:
“Passion is a positive obsession. Obsession is a negative passion.”
The Genius – Let’s talk about anything other than what’s actually happening today. Look over there -
I figured the Vikings would eventually try and coddle and protect the Mississippi wonder come December. I always guessed that if it was really cold Monday night, Brett would mysteriously contract the flu in Chicago. Vikings fans, the clock is ticking. It’s December and Cinderella’s carriage is turning back into a pumpkin. Wait until there’s actually a pressure filled moment – clutch time in December or January. If you have to travel to Philly – it’s OVER>>>>>
This is why the vikings always lose. Favre’s competitive nature is why you got him and now you want to bench him. Just stupid. How about finding a way to block Peppers. Not the Vikings. They knew when the schedule came out that Peppers needed to be part of their defensive game plan. Idiots.
lol @ the favre haters thinking they have something here. Enjoy it the short time it lasts.
This game was a mess from the start to the finish. I don’t blame chilly for wanting to bench Favre because our tackles were getting beat like Jared Allen’s red headed step children. This team better get their inadequacies in chech before the games start to matter.
The Over rated Brett Favre is back. I knew he couldn’t hold up. He’s looked like crap the past few weeks and it appears the Eagles might get the second seed. Who’s the coach in Minnesota, Favre or Childress?
If Childress really wanted to bench him he should have benched him.
Vikes go out play well and kill the Bears next week…all is forgotten about this weeks loss to Carolina. I’m a huge Viking hater…but teams don’t win 11 games by pure luck…or having bad players…or overrated players. The time is NOW to fix and address the problems.
Pack should destroy the Seacrappers and all should be forgotten their as well. Rodgers is a complete stud…wow!
Lots of football left.
GO PACK!
Anybody who thinks that leaving Favre in the game to take more punishment are idiots. At a certain point you have to protect your QB by any means necessary. I’m with Chilly on this. Leaving Billy Joe in the game was foolish.
Pckerlvr, your just plain stupid. Just lokee a Vikings fan to turn the topic around and argue something completely different. It not why Favre was being pulled that makes him a whiny divy, it’s how he reacted to the head coach.
Why would you bench Brett…..he was 17 for 27 with 5 or 6 dropped passes. He was running for his life and the receivers couldn’t hang onto the ball. Is that his fault…no Is he in a meltdown…..no. Get the o-line fixed before he gets killed, defense start tackling and receivers get focused and catch some passes. It’s alway easy to blame Brett…….but man it’s not his fault. Chilly…can’t believe you wanted to bench the only guy who was out there trying to win a football game. Get your head out of your as**** and start helping him out with the plays….dump offs, slants, screens….something quick to get the DE off his backside.
At the time Childress wanted to bench Favre, he was completing nearly 70% of his passes and had made no mistakes, despite being sacked a lot and hit a lot more, and having no time to throw. He certainly got no help from that feckless Adrian Peterson, the supposedly “best back in the league.” (as if) If he’d accepted the benching, everyone would be calling him a prima donna – “special treatment” and all that. But Favre is a gamer. He’s a true teammate and a competitor, and he wasn’t willing to tank the game for the sake of being protected. Chilly was willing to tank the game and risk home-field advantage in the playoffs.
I don’t see where Favre is wrong in all of this. Chilly needed to make some adjustments in the defense and the play-calling, which he did not do. Some quick slants, screen passes, and one-step drops – such as they used last week to ice the game vs. the Bengals – would have helped against that pass rush. His lack of coaching skills combined with poor defense cost them the game.
The Vikings will be fine. I just saw Chilly and Brett at IHOP laughing and ordering pancakes. They are fine,no big deal here.
The Vikes have a few problems there is no denying that. But for ANYONE to say all the blame lies with Favre are absolute idiots! The O line couldn’t stop Peppers last night, the D couldn’t find an answer for Smith.
The idea of benching Favre was stupidity to begin with. He gives the Vikes a far better chance to win over TJack and Sage.
I understand the idea of wanting to protect Favre from injury and that would be fine if we had things locked up.
Things need to be fixed, and fixed quick, but Favre is NOT, I repeat NOT one of those things. Anyone who says otherwise is only a hater who has an agenda of their own!
Haters can blame Favre all they want. That O-Line got completely owned. Needs to be fixed NOW.
But gwinn, this is the best team that Favre has ever played on. Don’t believe me? Just ask him.
You’re comments also remind me of how I used to view Favre when I was drinking the Favre kool-aid back in the late 90′s/early 00′s. Never his fault. Always someone else’s.
It’s pretty silly when you step back and detach yourself from his backside. He’s terrible in December. This is the 6th year in a row. It’s a pattern that is as clear as Chilly’s bald spot.
@ LBPACKFAN- Very good take. Are you feeling well today???
Favre is the Iron Man of the NFL. Chilly was wrong to want to sit him because he was getting killed. Favre has a big sack and pride, would have felt embarrassed to sit out due to that. Stupid play by Childo. As for why he was getting killed was a pure coaching meltdown. Peppers is great but not Superman. A little help would of went a long ways in slowing him down. Thats a coaches job. An army needs a general and last night our general was awol. Wake up CHILLY!
I guess that the Vikings did not get the memo that they do not even have a bye locked up yet.
Every year there are a couple of teams that play over their head and then come crashing back to Earth in the end.
The Vikings are ok but they are not a great team, their coach is an idiot, their RB can’t be trusted to hold onto the ball, their big shot rookie refuses to practice and their diva QB is 40 years old no matter how you look at him.
They are primed to go one and done in the playoffs and they are still the team most likely to move to a new city.
Viking fans can spend another winter sitting in their stupid little ice shanties, playing stink finger and boasting how their team in the greatest in the NFL because they peaked in week 5 while Kordell Jr. is waiting in the wings.
Ziggy extended Chili, brilliant contest to see who is more inept Ziggy the owner or chili the coach. Skoal LA vikings.
The Packers made the right decision – Aaron Rodgers is the better QB plain & simple. Numbers are almost identical behind a way worse offensive line and no AP in the backfield for defenses to worry about.
i’ll just leave this hear
Julius Peppers
It’s funny how Brett Favre is always perceived as the “bad guy” in these instances. And yet, no one questions the sanity of a head coach who wanted to pull his starting QB with a 7-6 lead, while playing for the #1 seed in playoffs, who was something like 12 of 21 (with 4 drops by Viking receivers) and 121 yards, at the time. Can you think of another HEAD COACH in the NFL who would do that ???
I’d be more concerned if Favre DID want to come out in that circumstance !
Jamesz23:
Here are the numbers for Favre vs. Rodgers: 11-3, vs. 9-5.
Those are the only numbers that matter. Yesterday Rodgers barely completed 50% of his passes; for much of the game it was less than that. He has great stats for the year – but it is all between the 20s. GB has a hard time putting together a sustained drive and finishing it in the end zone. Rodgers is helped by having probably the best WR corps in the NFC. W/o Jennings’ and Drivers’ YAC, Rodgers would have half the yardage he has now. Whether GB’s O-line is worse than Minnesota’s is really up for grabs at this point. As for AP, he got just 35 yards yesterday, and less than that two weeks ago vs. the Cardinals. He’s way overrated.
i am lord farve, you will do as i say..bow to me now you useless little head coach. farve is such a tool, again apparently there is a “me” in team… either way you cant win without him, now they have a one game lead over the eagles for a bye. come on bears…….

Packers have the #1 defense in the league, that is why they are winning, not AR. btw, an offensive line doesn’t get any worse then it did against Carolina last night.
Its just like the cardinals-panthers game, j-pep completely controlled that game, much like last nights game.. When pep is in the groove, he is the best player on the field.
While leading 7-6
only point is
coach Childress was throwing the game!
is that not proof enuff about what the NFL has become?

I couldnt disagree with you anymore. Give credit to both sides. The defense lost the game for the Pack yesterday…NOT Rodgers. Aarons going to have 30+ combined TD’s, and over 4,000 yards passing this year again.
For the Pack, I think giving credit on both sides of the ball.
As a Panther fan, I’m just laughing my a$$ off at all the Viking fans.
so you tell me, when you are fighting not only for the #1 home field advantage seed BUT also the #2 bye seed and you are leading 7-6 in the 2nd half of your third last game, why would you want to pull your QB who is your star? And when he refuses because HE wants to win, you go and take out his usual offensive linemen so he is pressured constantly the rest of the way?
open your eyes! just like belichick trying on 4th on his 28 up 6 points 2 min left in game

As a Vikings fan I will get to have an interest in the playoffs,we are in them. As a Panthers fan what will you do?? LOL Glad last night was your season highlight…how pathetic.
To decent Panther fans, good game. Sure Hugh is your resident tool.
Aaron Rodgers is getting better & better as a player that’s obvious to anyone even Vikings fans & Favre lovers who don’t want to admit it. Rodgers complted around 50% of his passes yesterday because he had at least 6 drops. You’re completely right about the records that is all that matters at the end of the day. The Vikings will finish ahead of the Packers this season. But I’ll happily take my chances with Rodgers for the next decade. I think its hilarious how much the Karen comments have died down as people realize hey this guy is pretty good, better than I thought.
The Favre fans are claiming that Favre was playing decently when the benching subject came up. But what you guys seem to keep missing is the fact that the idea was to stop him from getting hit so that he might actually be able to play in a game that matters.
Yeah, he was doing fine as Jacksonville’s defense began dismantling his offense. That was never the issue. Is it smart for Favre to say “we need to win this game, I’m staying in” when he’s getting beat up by the freaking Jaguars? I certainly don’t see how.
The Vikings were going to lose anyway if Jacksonville made a score, so I don’t see the justification for Favre staying in the game. And it’s not like refusing to be benched is the same as making a play decision on fourth down. Leave the roster decisions to the people who get paid to make them, Brett.
How other teams stop Jared Allen, chip, double team and sometimes triple team him. Allen and Peppers are two of the best ends in the NFL, the Vikings should learn how other teams stop Allen the same we could have done to stop Peppers. For you Favre haters, his name will be beside these other players, coaches and exec’s you should hate for changing teams over their careers or at the end of their careers,(Hall of Fame website) Herb Adderley, George Allen, Marcus Allen, Lance Alworth, Doug Atkins, George Blanda, Bob “Boomer” Brown, Paul Brown, Nick Buoniconti, Earl Campbell, Dave Casper, Guy Chamberlin, Larry Csonka, Al Davis, Len Dawson, Fred Dean, Eric Dickerson, Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, Carl Eller, Forrest Gregg, Franco Harris, Deacon Jones, Sonny Jurgensen, Paul Krause, Earl “Curly” Lambeau, Tom Landry, James Lofton, Vince Lombardi, Ronnie Lott, Randall McDaniel, Art Monk, Joe Montana, Warren Moon, Joe Namath, Alan Page, John Riggins, Jim Ringo, Don Shula, Bruce Smith, Jan Stenerud, Fran Tarkenton, Jim Taylor, Thurman Thomas, Johnny Unitas, Norm Van Brocklin, Reggie White, Rod Woodson, Steve Young and Gary Zimmerman. Being a Vikings fan I would love to have him go in the Hall of Fame as a Minnesota Viking (not happening), he gave Green Bay many years of exciting football. Don’t dwell on what he is doing now playing in Minnesota, be happy for what he gave you.
jamesz23,
AR had 50% because he was spraying it all over the field. He was not accurate. Want to talk about drops? Favre wishes all he had were 6 drops by his WRs yesterday.
btw, AR or not, the Packers will never win a SB with TT there. They may be competative, but never win the big one (or even go to it). It took Seattle a while to learn that.
This problem started with Chilly went to the airport to pick up Brent. It sent the wrong message to everyone, that Brent was above it all.
Chilly, in effect, pulled his pants all the way down to his ankles, a visual example of something most Viking fans can relate to since they do it for their boyfriend, Bruce, on a regular basis.
Now its the team’s turn to assume the position. The playoffs are right around the corner and just like Christmas every year, its the Viking’s tradition to get in the holiday spirit by giving….the game away.
Fan of Football I agree with you half-way on TT, was telling my dad that yesterday if the Packers had more key veteran free agent acqusitions in certain spots on the team – imagine how good they would be. That really does piss me off each offseason. I don’t agree with you though when you say he is the worst, most overrated GM in the game – I’d rank him somewhere in the middle. He’s had lots of clunker draft choices – but there is a lot of young talent on the Packers. The really bad GM’s can’t say that about their teams. We’ll see if the Packers ever make a Super Bowl, I hope they do but I’m a fan of the team & do look forward to a day when the GM is not talked about as much as TT is.
Fan of Football:
Your analysis is so ridiculous I don’t even know how to respond. You got me. Rodgers just isn’t a very good QB…ok. (MORON)
FYI to the rest of the world – Packers won win a Super Bowl with TT cuz Fan of Football said so.
Bob S,
We get it – you bet poorly. Next time, try slot machines.
When I go to my Dads house and were talking about football and sometimes Farve he always tries to argue with me about it b/c I cant stand him.
Well this is the exact reason why I cant stand him. The guy has one of the biggest egos in the NFL. Hes right behind people like TO. He seems to think hes intitled to do what he wants. If its retire every year or talk about it. Or if its to just throw the ball up when hes bored. Or to not come out of the game when the coach tells him too. Its all basically the same thing he is going to do what he wants because hes Brett Farve.
He acts like a child but because he charms and cons people he gets away with it. I just cant wait till hes gone.
And not because hes a good QB he doesnt worry me in that regard the Eagles have basically dominated Farve the last 10 years.

You clearly didn’t watch the Packers game. I can remember at least 5 different receivers all dropping at least one ball. Rodgers was high on a few throws early in the game and the offense looked generally bad in the first half, though.

No, Pervy.. He said he’s laughing at Vikings fans, not the Vikings themselves. I know you sometimes have trouble making that distinction, though. Perhaps if you didn’t wear the pads, jersey and helmet while watching the game you wouldn’t be so confused.
As for the usage of the word “pathetic”, I’m not surprised to find it in this thread but I am surprised to see you use it in describing a team that just dismantled yours.
@Adam- Just be glad Peppers doesn’t get to tear your Packer O line a new Ahole…probably would have 10 sacks! Did you shed a tear…you know…last second td’s to beat you have to hurt! LOL Not that we would now. We just took last night off. Toughening Favre up for the playoffs!

A simple “touché” response will suffice.
I’m still laughing my a$$ off at Pery.
You will be one and done in the playoffs. Even if the Panthers won’t make the playoffs this year, the vikings will provide me with plenty of laughs when the lose in the playoffs.
Look at baby Hughy waiting for the world to end in MN. Favrageddon is not going down clown!! LOL
Best team You’ve ever been on huh Brett? ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want a public apology from the Vikings to all of us fans who had to endure 3 hours of dyslexic football!
If we didn’t care about the game from the start why put any starters in in the first place?
Why didn’t we want to fight for the second seed?
Why didn’t we get Bryant Mckinnie some help when he so obviously needed it?
Why is our head coach such a tool?
This is hardly the end of our season Packer fans but (God Forbid) I’m starting to drink the green koolaid!
P.S. The vikings owe their fans an apology-FUC&ING PATHETIC!!!!
Still laughing.
Vikes are undefeated @ home and undefeated indoors. If we can finish the year strong and nail down the bye, we won’t step foot outside until Miami. I still feel very good about everything.
Jamesz23,
Rodgers is in his prime; he *should* be better than Favre. He’s 14 years younger! And yet Favre is playing every bit as well as Rodgers, and actually a bit better as measured by QB rating. We’ll see how good AR is when he no longer has Driver in the mix. D2 is incredible, so valuable and yet underrated. The guy has velcro on his fingers.
The problem I have with Rodgers is that he can’t finish. Last week vs. the Bears the two TDs were a 65-yd run from scrimmage on the first play of the game, and a TD that resulted from the defense giving them the ball on the 11. Rodgers has struggled quite a bit with putting together a sustained drive and finishing in the end zone. I mean, it was the Bears, dude.
Compare them at the same age, and Favre is by far the better player. He’s still playing at a high level, comparable to Rodgers in every category, at 40; doubt seriously Rodgers will be doing that when he’s 40.
And personally I don’t like TT. He is overrated as a GM. Supposedly smart with cap money, blah blah, but in reality he sits on cash when he oughta spend it so they can go to the Big Show. Instead he nickles and dimes, and in the interim the O-line and secondary are aging fast.

You’re right–I am glad they’re not facing Peppers. And no, to answer your question, the last second TD did not hurt. I had the feeling that the last team to possess the ball was going to win that game.
You’re right about one other thing, though. You wouldn’t know anything about last second TDs to lose. There was nothing last-second about the Panthers game. It was an all night thing.

Allow me to rectify that feeling you have. The Vikings let Matt Moore–yes, that Matt Moore– pile up 300 yards passing, 3 TDs and 0 INTs on them.
And it’s becoming crystal clear that the path to Miami goes through New Orleans. Commence panicking.

Still doesn’t hold a candle to letting a 3rd string QB on a winless team beat you by 1o points.

Crystal clear for awhile that the path would be through New Orleans? Only since the queens tanked a golden opportunity to make up a game.
And yes, as of today the Packers are in the playoffs. Get back to me on Monday and I’ll let you know if that’s still the case.
The Saints would still have had to lose 1 more.
Possible? Yes. Probable? No.
Yeah well, the playoffs don’t start today, they don’t even start after Monday.

Although, I’d much rather have them in, that way the Vikings can end their season for them.
That is if they even get out of the WC round.
