Steelers lose Warren, Sweed

The Steelers announced earlier today that two members of the team will miss the rest of the 2009 season.

Gone are long snapper Greg Warren and receiver Limas Sweed.

Warren suffered a torn ACL on the game-winning untimed down following the touchdown that tied Sunday’s game against the Packers at 36.  He has been placed on injured reserve.

Last year, Warren suffered a torn ACL in the other leg in October, and he missed the rest of the season.

The Beaver County Times reports that Jared Retkofsky has been signed to replace Warren.  The Steelers turned to Retkofsky last season after Warren’s injury, and Retkofsky snapped for the team in the playoffs and Super Bowl XLIII.

Sweed has been placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.  His specific condition hasn’t been disclosed.

But, as we noted the other day, it’s good to know that he can catch something.

Bazooka Joe..if you are talking about the Ratbirds, gut punching that ass, you are as dumb as your name..Steelers have a terrible D, and Ratbirds squeaked out a last minute win in Baltimore..Get ready for your buck toothed, unibrow, overrated QB to get punched in the gut, you kook..

It’s good the Steelers were able to sign the other guy for long snapper duty. The Steelers are still alive but they have to win out and get some help. The only game the Steelers need to focus on is the one this Sunday. Everything else is out of their control.
    GO STEELERS!!

“there hurt now so release then they both stink”
How the hell does one come to the conclusion that a long-snapper sucks, or doesn’t suck? He plays a handful of snaps a game and his only job is to…snap the ball. I don’t get it.

Sweed hasn’t dressed in weeks + Long snapper they signed played for them in the Superbowl = Non story

    @ToddHaleyKicksASS
Limas Sweed is certainly not a “pussy.” He has problems catching the ball, but besides that is a fine WR (sense my tone). Really though I have seen him lay some pretty fierce blocks so I would never call him a pussy, just has bad hands or DHB syndrome (bay area joke).

  22. Steeler-lady says: Dec 22, 2009 7:46 AM

Good thing spelling isnt mandatory on PFT..
I still have hope in Sweed.. he came off a great camp..sucks he didnt fair so well on the field.Im holding out hope tho. I do like Wallace alot tho.
    Poor Warren… what bad luck.

  23. jaybaileys says: Dec 22, 2009 7:56 AM

Do you guys really want them to get into the playoffs? To what get crushed by River’s or see Farrior get tooled again by Leonard on 4th and 10? We need tons of new blood on defense. They won’t address in free agency, so they’ll need to come from the draft. They have a better chance of getting impact players at 14 or so instead of low 20′s. I love the Steelers and want to beat Baltimore, but making the playoffs would be the worst thing for this franchise this year. If they did, they’d probably keep Arian’s too.

  24. Tomthebombtracy says: Dec 22, 2009 8:32 AM

Sweed would be playing if they hadn’t found the 60 Minutes Man Mike Wallace in the third round. He’s behind two Super Bowl MVPs in Ward and Holmes….and a great rookie. I don’t think they’ve given up on him but he could only get in with a four receiver set or injury.

  25. MSWRavens says: Dec 22, 2009 8:55 AM

Go study your NFL tie breaking procedures…Steelers only chance to make the playoffs is if they beat Baltimore and Miami, and Baltimore also loses to Oakland.
That’s just to get a shot. They still need lots of help. Jets and Denver and Jacksonville all need to lose one more (all of them should).

  26. The Coop says: Dec 22, 2009 9:29 AM

Funny how Steeler-lady points out that spelling isn’t mandatory and then spells “a lot” as one word and shortens that super-long word “though” to three letters.
Nothing like getting your spelling criticized by a slack-jawed Yinzer broad.

  27. Tuscany says: Dec 22, 2009 9:29 AM

MSWRavens … You are dead wrong. If the Steelers win out and Denver (at Eagles this week) , the Jets (at Indy this week) and Jax (at NE) all lose a game … the Steelers are in, regardless of what Baltimore does against the Raiders. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  28. jamaltimore says: Dec 22, 2009 10:11 AM

    jaybaileys:
You are an arse, or just a typical steelers fan, who thinks his team is that good that they can SELECT when they want to be in the playoffs. Were you asleep from 80 to 00 when the Steelers Sucked? As you continue to slid down hill with Omar Epps staring as the “pretender” an overated coach with a team going downhill fast you should be happy your team is even playing a meaningful games in December. Between that and the refs propping you up things aren’t looking so bad in squeeler world.
That is until the Blackbirds come to town this weekend and smack your rapist qb in the mouth and Bazooka Joe throws all over the place with a group of receivers that would be battling for roster spots in the UFL! Wait till he gets some real talent at wideout!

  29. Holeinone09 says: Dec 22, 2009 11:09 AM

Tuscany (!), you may be right about that scenario and I hope you are. For once, I will be pulling for the Eagles, and there is a great chance Colts and Pats get those wins. But of course, we have to win out.
Too bad we are in this position in the first place.
Also, ain’t it funny how some complete jackasses continue to rant about the so-called help from the refs, when the team is 7-7? Gee, thanks for the help refs, you coulda done better!! I guess these morons didn’t watch the Packers game when Harrison was being held and arm-barred on just about every play (like he has been in every game), and Woodson was mugging our WR’s on just about every play. Even the broadcasters pointed those things out a few times. These morons continue to make excuses, something they frequently accuse the Steeler fans of doing. Quit crying and whining, you morons. LOL.
    GO STEELERS!!

Jamaltimore is the biggest kook I have ever seen on PFT–You call your QB Bazooka Joe up there in Baltimore? Seriously? Get Flacco a receiver named Ernie—Because Flacco is Bert..All the way..with his unibrow and buck teeth..Good Luck Sunday you mo-ron!
