Ravens do some roster shuffling

With two games to play and the Ravens currently on the right side of the playoff seeding, they’re tinkering with the roster.

The moves have been necessitated in large part by the season-ending knee injury suffered by cornerback Lardarius Webb, who has been placed on injured reserve.  The Ravens also have decided to part ways with defensive back Marcus Paschal, a second-year player.

To replace them, the Ravens have brought back cornerback Corey Ivy, and they’ve pilfered rookie safety Kevin Fitzhugh from the Jets’ practice squad.

Hey, with Jets coach Rex Ryan declaring that his team won’t be going to the playoffs (even though they’re not mathematically eliminated) there was no reason for Fitzhugh to stick around.

The Ravens are screwed this weekend. Losing our best CB will kill us.

  2. Ravensatron says: Dec 22, 2009 7:05 PM

We now have the ‘frightening’ prospect of having Frank Walker and Corey Ivy on the field at the same time IN A BASE DEFENSE!!!
I could get open against those 2

    Do I hear 600 yds for Bennie … ??? … 700 … ???

  4. Katmanduu says: Dec 22, 2009 7:26 PM

Here come the excuses. We’ll now see who the better team is in Pittsburgh this weekend, and it won’t be the Ravens!!

Here we go Steelers here we go!

  6. overRAYtedlewis says: Dec 22, 2009 7:31 PM

But what about RAY LEWIS? He’s the greatest player in NFL history. And his “look at me girly dance” during the introductions will paralyze the Steelers with fear.

One thing that is eerily similar between the Ravens and Steelers this year….each of our secondary sucks horribly. The Steelers have had to deal with the “Tyrone Carter and William Gay Comedy Show” (Gotta give credit to another poster for that, I thought it was hilarious) for pretty much the whole season, and the Ravens CB’s are going down left and right. Goes to show you how far having at least one decent CB can get you. At least you guys have had Ed Reed for the majority of the season. Interesting fact, each game that Polamalu has played in this year (with the exception of the 2nd Bengals game…which he had to come out of due to injury) the Steelers, actually Troy, have an interception. Without Polamalu I’m not sure if we have an interception at all. If we do, it was VERY early in the season.

before calling me a Steelers homeboy, let me tell you that I support Redskins
here it goes – Ivy or no Ivy, Big Ben is going to destroy them anyways … the Ravens pass defense has been pathetic throughout the season
who needs a 100yd rusher with the kind of secondary play the Ravens dish out every week

  9. JoeStrummerLives says: Dec 22, 2009 8:11 PM

Truly chilling are Ward’s manicures. May be an overt manifestation of something.
Yins better not get carried away. The Steelers win Sunday puts them in great position for the Big Letdown.

  10. stone says: Dec 22, 2009 8:14 PM

Will Troy be back or will he be twirling his girly curls on the sideline? Doesn’t matter Ravens will win! Squeelers are done!

  11. af16 says: Dec 22, 2009 8:36 PM

It’s funny that Steelers fans still try to talk trash after
    a) having a worse record than the Ravens
    b) losing to the Chiefs, Raiders and Browns
Don’t delude yourselves – playoffs for the Steelers this year are a huge reach.

  12. The Rural Juror says: Dec 22, 2009 8:48 PM

If the ravens SWEEEEEEP the stillers and fully eliminate them from ANY playoff hopes I fully intend to take a page out of the Steeler Fan Playbook and bring it up every 10 seconds this offseason…
Despite all the championships, stiller fans have yet learned to win with class.

  13. Ravenmaniac says: Dec 22, 2009 8:51 PM

@Katmanduche…no excuses here…although I find it funny how many excuses were flying when the Ravens beat your team last time..I bet even you posted the, you beat our 3rd string QB excuse…..
Ravens fans need to be thankful for class steeler fans like Deb, Prez Charlie, and several others. They make up for the band wagoneers like yourself with the price tags still on your brand new ben jersey you got in Feb 2009.

  14. The Rural Juror says: Dec 22, 2009 8:53 PM

is it Kevin Fitzhugh or KEITH?
    Come on, FLorio!

    @ overRAYtedlewis:
Boy, has your momma let you go to an NFL game yet? You have no clue what Ray does for the team and other players around the league. Half the players have Ray Lewis on speed dial.
Call me when momma lets you have a cell phone.

  16. ugotflaccoed says: Dec 22, 2009 9:07 PM

Everyone harps on how bad the Ravens pass defense is but lets look at the numbers.
    Ravens defense
    Overall 4th
    Pass 6th
    Run 7th
    Steelers defense
    Overall 6th
    Pass 18th
    Run 1st
And yes “Raylewis…” you guys were the better team last year no question but this is not last year. We’ll see come Sunday who the better team is douchebag. Nice username loser. Preoccupied with the Ravens much???

  17. mlippy38 says: Dec 22, 2009 9:09 PM

Hey Gautam, I can tell you’re a prettying intelligent guy. Doing a quick check of NFL stats for 2009, it is rather simple to see that the Ravens allow the 6th least yards in the NFL. If you go down that list quite a bit, you will find the Steelers at 17th.
So, it might make sense to assume that Joe Flacco will have a big day against the Steelers. Just a simple check of the facts, try it next time so you don’t sound like such a blithering idiot.

WOW, THE STEELERS ARE GOING TO INTRODUCE RAY LEWIS. HE MUST BE THE GREATEST LB OF ALLTIME.

  19. Ravenmaniac says: Dec 22, 2009 9:34 PM

With a name like RayLewisKillsPeople..you took me completely by surprise using words like fagot asses, ass clowns…..wow impressive….
By the way, you talk about Flacco and how he looked good vs Lions and Bears….and not good vs you guys….under thrown??? If you want to see a ball under thrown look no further than your lord and savior ben rapistberger and the first TD pass against the Packers…Wallace had to almost come to a complete stop to catch that pass.
True Flacco looked great against the Lions and Bears…these are teams you should look great against….unlike big jen and how he looked against the BROWNS!!!!
You my friend are the quintessential ass clown!!

  20. JohnHarbaugh says: Dec 22, 2009 10:00 PM

wow steelers fans seem to have alot of confidence after winning 1 of their last 6 games and losing to teams like oakland and the browns.

  21. stevincinci says: Dec 22, 2009 10:30 PM

This is good news for Cincy. We need Ben to help his home state boys out this weekend and kick Ravens you know what. Then of course lose next week so Steelers don’t get in either. Go Ben.

  22. Ravens Macg says: Dec 22, 2009 11:13 PM

Amazing! squeeler morons talking trash…….typical. Play the game. Then the RAVENS fans can talk the trash!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Ravens Macg says: Dec 22, 2009 11:24 PM

    @RayLewisKillsPeople
You probably won’t see this till the morning when you wake up and your mommy is making you breakfast for your 50 year old unemployed ass who doesn’t work cause it makes you tired……..lil teeney ben will throw 3 septs one for a pic 6 and you can crawl back into your basement !!!

  24. sportsguy15478 says: Dec 23, 2009 12:51 AM

my god guys calm down how about this as a steeler fan im going to say that flacco and ben have a good game both QB’s should have no problem passing against one team with depleted DB’s and the other with terrible DB’s the team that wins is the one that gets to the QB the most and forces a turn over in the midst of it.turnovers will be the deciding factor last time it was the ravens with an INT in overtime that won it now we will see what happens this time

  25. dannylaruso says: Dec 23, 2009 1:17 AM

it doesn’t matter what happens, even if troy keeps dedicating the lovelieness of his locks to head and shoulders(TM), the steelers are not a playoff contender.

  26. Adam David says: Dec 23, 2009 1:47 AM

Everyone is listing the steelers losses to the Chiefs, browns and raiders.. lets not forget guys, they lost to the bears too.. who we destroyed.. not to mention they BARELY beat the lions.. who we destroyed..
    @RavensMacG
You and I both know, that when we beat the steelers, like we did earlier this year.. the steelers fans will still have excuses and talk shit.. its just how they roll.. how we roll??? right through pittsburgh and into the playoffs.. nuff said..

  27. stone says: Dec 23, 2009 3:45 AM

As soon as this game is over the BANDWAGON squeeler fans will crawl back into the butthole they’ve been hiding in since the KC, Oakland and cleveland losses. Hell, if the refs hadn’t helped out again with that bs call where phoney whines ward took a fall, it would have been yet another loss!

  28. straightup says: Dec 23, 2009 5:58 AM

Well as a Saints fan i can feel the Ravens pain. We made it to 13-1 with skeleton players in the secondary. It can be done, good luck.
