As the Pittsburgh Steelers try to salvage slim playoff hopes for a third straight playoff appearance, they'll be joining forces with a first-round pick from nearly 15 years ago.
Veteran receiver Joey Galloway, who grew up roughly 75 miles from Heinz Field in Bellaire, Ohio, is expected to sign with the Steelers, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Patriots cut Galloway in October after a failed stint there. He previously played for the Seahawks, Cowboys, and Buccaneers. In Pittsburgh, Galloway would replace Limas Sweed on the Steelers' roster.
If Galloway is active on game days, it could create a problem from a special-teams standpoint -- unless the 38-year-old wideout plans to cover kickoffs and/or punts.
And unless he also plans to play defensive back, this move won't do much to help the Steelers out of their current predicament.
UPDATE: The Steelers have confirmed that Galloway is officially on board. The team also signed long snapper Jared Retkofsky.

I am a die hard Steelers fan but I am not sure that you have a firm grasp on Wild Card tie breaker procedures. If the Steelers Broncos and Ravens all end up 9-7 then the Ravens and Broncos go to the playoffs. Head to head is not used when 3 teams are involved. They use a division tie breaker first to eliminate one of those teams. The Ravevens have a better division record than we do so they go and the Broncos go. It's retarted but that is how it works. And by the way: Screw the Ravens and the Pats!

With every passing story it becomes evident that Mike Florio is a talentless hack that uses this site to promote an agenda that is fueled by his hatred for certain teams and people continue to believe what he writes as fact. He has completely misrepresented the facts in this story and adds little quips at the end to force opinions his readers and the idiotic responses show that it is working.
What he fails to mention is that Limas Sweed was placed on the Reserve/Non Football Illness list ending his season. The Steelers need to replace him in the roster especially with Hines Ward having hamstring issues that may limit his availability. Maybe they could have signed someone else(suggestions?) but Joey Galloway is a veteran player that has a decent track record. If he sees the field as much as Sweed then that would mean almost no playing time anyways, but you still have to have backups. He was not signed (as Florio implied above) to improve the wide receivers.
What should make Florio look even worse and more petty is this has been reported by many news outlets and even other blogs before he published this useless excuses of a report.

This is a non-story, the impact of JRetofsky is more significant than that of a #4 reciever. Galloway is replacing Sweed for crying out loud.....his season stats are 1 catch 5 yards....I dont see Tomlin or Arians giving him any more opportunities than that barring injuries.
As for the playoffs, the chance has increased significantly, provided the steelers win out.
The way the Steelers have played this year, the winning out part is going to be the hard part, everything else is set up pretty favorably for them, provided New England, Philly, and Indy plays starters against the Jags, Broncos, and Jets.

Having a better record than the Steelers at this point isn't a lot to be fired up about, Rich. Nor does it mean you're out of the woods. A win is a win, that's true. But Sunday's win was hardly the typical Pats' blowout. I could easily say we're getting back on track with a win last week as well. But I'm not one to go on a blog and bluster like a fool over the first glimmer of hope.

I wish that were true but it's not the case. In a 3 team tie breaker for the wild card spots they throw head to head games out. They will then eliminate either us or the Ravens because we are in the same division. Baltimore has a better record in the division than we do so both them and the Broncos would get in. I know it is a stupid way to determine it but that is how they would do it unfortunately.

So there was NO press release from either Roger Goodell or the New England Patriots saying that there was a history of this taping since 2000, only the word of an 80 year old U.S. Senator with an axe to grind and who shouldn't even be in this picture with so many more important issues that he was elected to handle........
