Saints cut Carney loose

With Garrett Hartley both reinstated and back to his week-in, week-out kicking function, the Saints no longer need to carry kicker John Carney on the roster.

And so they aren’t.

The team has announced that Carney has been cut, along with cornerback Marcus McCauley.

They were replaced by fullback Kyle Eckel and safety Heranza Daze-Jones.

Carney, a 22-year veteran, has kicked for the Bucs, Rams, Chargers, Saints, Jaguars, Chiefs, and Giants.  He served as the kicker in New Orleans from 2001 through 2006 before returning in 2009.

He kicked in nine games this season, making 13 of 17 field goal attempts and 50 of 52 extra-point tries.

    Not really, Cowboys will cut Suisham and sign Carney…Why? Cause that’s what JJ does.

    If the Packers don’t at least bring Carney in…Crosby has missed so many big kicks the last few years. Don’t forget, last season he missed one at the gun to beat the Vikings, missed one at the gun to beat the Bears…what’s the saying about idiots?? Repeating the same action while expecting a different outcome? That’s what BigMac is doing every time he tells Crosby to trot on out and pushes another kick.
    What’s Chris Jacke and his mullet doing???? Dude made tons of big kicks…

    can it be that hard to be a kicker in the NFL, or is the talent level dropping so much due to the increase in average salary of soccer players?
    I’m serious here, if they can kick really good, wouldn’t they be playing soccer and making a ton more money?
