As pointed out by Josh Alper in the one-liners today, the Steelers are adding yet another minority owner to the ever-growing roster of folks who own slivers of the franchise.
But it was all a secret, causing us to wonder it might be a curve-ball move, like Bruno Sammartino or Dave Parker. Or Chef Brockett.
Instead, it’s Paul Evanson.
Who?
Exactly.
The move initially was announced not by the Steelers, but by the company Evanson runs — Allegheny Energy.
“We are pleased
to welcome Paul Evanson to the Steelers’ family,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said n the release issued by Allegheny Energy. “Paul has been patiently
waiting to join our ownership group since this summer, and he has a
great interest in Steelers’ football.”
“Since joining Allegheny Energy and coming to the area
in 2003, I’ve become a passionate Steelers fan,” Evanson said. “The
Rooney family has built a superb franchise through hard work and a
commitment to excellence and they have done this with integrity and fair
dealing to everyone. I’m proud to become a partner in such a legendary
organization.”
Fine. By why in the heck was it a big secret?
So, he moved to the area and then became a fan? Sounds like most Steeler fans that don’t live in Pittsburgh – bandwaggoners
Because you didn’t know about it, it was a “secret”?
Rooney probably didn’t want the word getting out that he had a dirty energy guy in his former franchise’s new ownership group. What would Obama think? Would he fire his dad?
Florio, I am beg. to think you make all these mistakes on your posts on purpose.
“By why in the heck was it a big secret?”
“But it was all a secret, causing us to wonder it might be a curve-ball move”
What the heck does this mean for the team though? I for one am a little disappointed this outsider is coming in to the family business.
Shoulda been the Cobra!
“Since coming to the area in 2003, I’ve become a passionate Steelers fan,”
Typical.
Nick-
Is everyone who doesn’t cheer for their nearest team a bandwaggoner of the team they do cheer for?
Paul Evanson said he wanted to remain low key, well he is………
@ Nick and goetta head…
You don’t have to live (grow up) in Pittsburgh to be a fan. I’ve lived in Houston my entire life and LOVE the Steelers!!!
Was he vetted for his views on Donovan McNabb?
Let me fix up your article.
Everything was good up to where you wrote “Paul Evanson.”
Next sentence was good too, but just add *CARES* to the end of it.
Then, keep the next sentence, which is very well-written, especially for you, Florio. Everything after that, however, was garbage and you can get rid of it.
So, with revisions, it reads:
Instead, it’s Paul Evanson.
Who CARES?
Exactly.
The End.
I bet this dude has a ton of gambling interests which is why it was kind of secret.
@sixburgh steelers
do you LOVE the steelers because of their 6 superbowl rings?
Yes you have to root for your local team. They represent you. When you read the local papers do you root for another high school squad to beat your alma mater, even if you didn’t play yourself? No. The only excuse for not rooting for your home team is if your mother or father raised you to like the team in the city they’re originally from. There were no Steelers fans in the 80′s like there are now. Just like no Red Sox fans until recently. Bandwagoners have no balls, no brains and are sheep to the flavor of the week.
Did they follow the Rooney rule before hiring this new owner?
No, you don’t have to root for your local team. Many fans root for the team in the town where they grew up (but where they no longer live).

Which makes you a jackass.
I think the Rooneys should put 25% of the team up for public sale via one of the stock markets.

He probably won a ton of dough at one of the Rooney gambling halls, and the only way they could pay up was company stock.
@ hineswardcriesafterfumbling…
“do you LOVE the steelers because of their 6 superbowl rings?”
Nope, 16-0 or 0-16 they are still my team!!!
@Child Please!
“Which makes you a jackass.”
No, changing your name to OchoCinco makes you a Jackass. Who says you have to cheer for the team of the city you LIVE in…lol
Do you know who else has an interest in Steeler football? Apparently the refs since they throw every Superbowl Fixsburgh’s way.
so why don’t you cheer for the texans if the record doesn’t matter? or why aren’t you a oilers/titans fan?
@ hwcaf (your name is too damn long)
“so why don’t you cheer for the texans if the record doesn’t matter? or why aren’t you a oilers/titans fan?”
Because I like the Steeler history, Steeler players (ATF is Rod Woodson) and it was the very first game, of any sport, my Dad (RIP) took me to (he was a truck driver)
Oilers/Titans and Texans are “ok” as long as they aren’t playing the Steelers. I can cheer for them but I don’t feel “anything” when they lose
I have no problem for people cheering for whichever team they choose, just as long as those people know that they are only slightly different than a Duke student cheering for UNC. You miss out on being a part of an excited community when things go your way, and you’re going to be heckled for it. And even when the team you have chosen (funny no one ever chooses the lions or texans) wins, you’re in a very small minority who gives a s__t, so expect the jealousy.
Bruno Sammartino getting a lot of love here lately.
I mentioned him as a possible candidate for the Skins job.
And Stan Hansen could coach the Cowboys and remind Bruno of his Lariat clothesline.
Then the world would explode because of too much awesome.
Anyone who feels that any sports team “represents you” or the region of the country in which you happen to be born has a very odd take on life in my book. The players don’t represent anyone, it’s nothing but a job for them. Sure, they’ll pander to the meatball fans who want to hear it, but in the end they don’t care.
I’ve been a Pack fan for 40 years (most of them pretty tough years). Panthers played their first game in ’95. I’m in/from N. C. If I became as Panther fan I think that would make me a band wagoner. I don’t hate the Panthers but GB is still my team.
Bruno Sammartino RULES!!! Or at least he did a few decades ago!
