As Florida quarterback Tim Tebow prepares to make his transition from the college game to the NFL level of the sport, he has an important decision to make.
Will he be willing to pay the fines that will be imposed for writing references to Biblical chapters and verses on his eye black strips?
He also has another key decision to make, regarding whether he’ll participate in the Senior Bowl.
John Taylor of CFT has more.
Here’s our take — the kid probably is nervous about being thrust into a pro style offense without sufficient preparation. For example, the first time he executes a play-action pass, forcing him to turn his back on the defense and then reacquire the location of the relevant defensive players and his cycle of receivers, Tebow might not do as well as he does taking a snap from the catbird seat of shotgun formation, looking at his primary target, possibly a secondary target, and then pulling the ball down and running.
So there’s a good chance it could hurt his draft stock to let the scouts see him flounder in a relatively compressed period of time with the kind of offense they run in the NFL.
Jesus is the reason for the season.
Tebow is the reason for the bowl season.
Wow, Florio, that was actually pretty good analysis. Have you been hitting the egg nog again?
Tebow knows as well as everybody else in the counrty that he’s going to blow in the pro’s.
To bad he’s a nice guy.
The Tebow hate train has just left the station, huh Mike?
The team that selects Tebow needs to be very patient with him. He won’t be ready to play QB in the NFL in 2010, if ever.
The most ridiculous thing I saw at the Dolphins-Jags game (yes, I was one of the few in attendance in J-ville) was a guy wearing a custom-ordered Jaguars #15 jersey with “Tebow” on the back. We laughed at that guy. It’s unconscionable to think that a backup QB/occasional wildcat QB is going to put fans in the seats.
Doesn’t he know that all mid round QB’s play in this game to improve their draft stock? Only a surefire 1st round QB would not play in the Senior Bowl.
He’ll need to Senior Bowl to redeem himself after the Bearcats make him look silly in the Sugar Bowl!!!
Plus, with talent on the teams being roughly equal in theory, he knows he has a 50-50 chance of crying his eyes out like a little baby girl on national television again.
Jesus is the reason for the season!?!?!? What the HELL does that mean! Are you saying Jebus spends his time monitoring a violent GAME, played for millions of dollars by guys that, on average, commit aldultery.
I don’t believe in any God, however, if there is a god I don’t think he would care about football.
Oh, by the way… a game played on a day when we are supposed to be worshiping him.
Not playing in the Senior Bowl will hurt is stock nearly as much as if he goes and falls flat on his face, it’s just as telling as going and letting everyone see his inability to run a prostyle offense. Or maybe he should just go and work on his transition from QB to FB or TE.
baby jesus can do anything he wants if you ask the people in this state of florida. hope he ikes playing tight end in the nlf, no way his game works in the nfl. no way.
People still believe in god and think Jesus is up there with his marionette strings controlling everything still eh?
steel curtin d repping the bearcats? seems odd.
I think Pervy meant Jesus is the reason for the Christmas and Tebow is the reason for college bowl season.
brady…. do you enjoy making fun of a 22 yr old kid that has passion for the game??? he is more of a man than you will ever be and has accomplished more than you ever will.. your a loser.. sorry if your too much of a man to cry about something important in your life…maybe i just made you cry? who knows.. but its easy to type something on the comp about a kid coming out of college.
Even Tebow’s media imposed status as the greatest college player ever is a joke (not to mention his pro-style skills which florio picks over).
First of all, he played in the same spread system that made Alex Smith look like a #1 draft pick …. with even better athletes surrounding him.
His rushing TD stats are the most over hyped, overinflated B.S. I have ever seen. When FL got inside the 5 they would run Tebow up the gut three downs in a row. If this was the norm, every QB would have 12+ rush TD’s/season. I’m sorry, but when 90-95% of your rush TDs are glorified QB sneaks you’re not a threat to run at the next level.
Tebow is a great person and competitor, but the media love affair is sickening and setting the guy up for a painful fall to earth.
God help the team that drafts him with the intent of putting him under center (no pun intended)
/hatin
The Romans were onto something…. feeding christians to the lions was a brilliant idea.
Matt, I see no reason to make fun of Tebow unless it is about his pro prospects or wacky throwing motion.. but please, don’t refer to a 22-year old as a “kid”!
I’m sick of college athletes being called, “kids” by fans, the media, and coaches… they’re adults, people! Maximum security adult jails are filled with “kids” between the ages of 18-23… but we don’t refer to them as kids, do we?
On a football note, the Senior Bowl practices are very telling and influential in forming concrete opinions on a college players. Tebow probably should stay away from the game beause he will be outside of his comfort level and any and all deficiencies will be apparent during the practices. Those practices opened eyes on prospects like Flacco and Henne and shut doors on prospects like Brennan and other weak-armed, unschooled wannabes. I’m all for Tebow playing, but I doubt he has the tools or the testicular fortitude to show up.
Lame, like Tebow’s chances in the NFL. Guy’s over rated like no other. I think he’s a winner, but he is NOT a QB at the next level, and I doubt he could be a serviceable TE either. Make sure you graduate kid. BTW, Bearcats have nothing to be intimidated by, Sugar Bowl should be a good game.
Senior Bowl, tryouts or pre-season games; Tebow’s lack of NFL QB skills are going to get exposed at some point, he’s just trying to put if off as long as possible.
i wonder if he will cry when he doesn’t get drafted first. and i wonder if colt mccoy will rub his head in a gheigh-like fashion to console him???
if tebow is to be a good qb in the nfl, he better unlearn absolutley everything he knows and re-learn it….all by march 2010
both tebow and colt will tank in the nfl…i hope the cowboys draft tebow when romo blows it again this month…so i can continue to hate him
To CdnMike:
God cares about and loves His people. And if His people happen to play football, a game that they love, then YES, he cares about football too. It’s as simple as that. And God is not to be worshipped on just one day, but every day. Worship is a lifestyle. It’s not hinged on a day of the week.
He even loves those that don’t believe in Him.
I won’t preach to you all, but here’s my analysis on Tebow.
Yes his footwork is shabby, he has a very low and long release, and he hasn’t taken a snap under center. But the man’s a winner, and you can’t have enough of those players on your team. Whatever he is lacking, he will find a way to learn if the right team picks him and has patience with him. He needs to be under an established passer for a few years (say a Philadelphia or Indy) and learn that offense. But no one can deny he has the will-power to do it. I can’t wait to see him in about 4 years. All of these haters will be the same ones saying that they can’t believe their team passed on him 2 or 3 times in the 2010 draft.
I think he’s making a HUGE mistake if he doesn’t considering many don’t know if he’ll play QB/FB/H-B/TE/ or even LB???
btw…

How do you know what God cares and does not care about?
btw, you can worship him ANYTIME you see fit…
Piro – Tebow being exposed at the Senior Bowl could cost him MILLIONS on draft day.. however, being exposed at training camp.. at least he’ll have a few million dollars more to wipe his tears away with!! The NFL is a business.. he’s doing the right thing for himself and his family!
Lou Holtz, Bob Griese ands every analyst and announcer(Musberger and Brenneman) who believes he’s a first rounder, if not the 1st overall pick, should be shouting now, telling him to go and show he can be a pro. If he has any gonads, he’ll go see what he’s got. Bet he doesn’t go.
Teebow is not goign to be a first year started, but I think we all know he has the potential to shine at the pro levels.
I have no idea where he will go in the draft, but I hope he goes somwhere with an older, experienced QB, where he can be groomed into the system.
This kid is destined for great things, nobdy know the path that will take him there.
my God (sorry timmy) i hope he kicks ass (sorry again timmy) in the nfl.
i was sick of hearing him getting fawned over too, but good gravy the media may love him but the public (outside of gator land which i am not a part of) seem to belittle/berate/despise him more than any other person in sports and i just don’t see why he’s so damn (yep, sorry once more) hateable. therefore, i hope he proves all the for no good reason haters completely wrong. i also hopes he somehow avoids going to jax.
@ PeteG427,
There was almost 60,000 in attendance for the Jags-Dolphins game. Tebow Jaguar jerseys are the worse thing imaginable. The best thing that could happen to Tebow and the Jaguars is for him to go to Seattle or Buffalo.
@ tryagain,
People don’t belittle/berate/despise him. They do those things to his following. And the reason they take such joy in it is because his following claimed he could do no wrong for four years. He would pick up 1.5 yards on a 4th and 1 and it was as if he just broke a 70 yard QB draw. He could “will” his team to victory. Funny how that “will” left the Gators with a 19 point loss in the SEC title game. Funny how little “will” means when you don’t have a deep threat in the WR corps and you are playing against a great defense. Now that the Tebow book has been written he finished his career with a 34-6 record as a 3 year starting QB. Good record, nothing amazing. He won one SEC title and one national title in those three years. He won a Heisman the year his team went 9-4. And he was a contributor his freshman year on a national title and SEC title team. Great career but give me a break with greatest of all time. In fact, he wasn’t even the greatest player on his Florida team while Percy Harvin was in Gainesville. Another fact, there will be at least 10-15 guys that were college teamates of Tebow that end up or ended up being taken higher in the draft than he will be.
Jesus LOL.
Tim Tebow used his mouth to circumcise those kids in South America last year.
Sincerely,
Mike Florio
SEC is way way over rated this. and the BS series covers their butt by having TCU play Boise State. Either team would have beat Alabama, and Texas is not even a top 10 team.
@ Seeryer:
You hit the nail on the head and that was the exact thing I was think when I read this. 1st and 2nd and even sometime 3rd round projected prospects don’t play in the Senior Bowl. You can kill you draft postion tremendously if you lay an egg. I’m not a fan of Florio but he made a good point about being nervous and being thrust into a pro style offense without preparing. I’m not a Tebow fan by any means but maybe he proves everyone wrong. We’ll see.
Let me get this straight, Tim Tebow can not be an NFL QB because he can not play to the same level as:
David Garrad
Vince Young
Any rams QB this year
Seneca Wallace or Matt Hasselbeck
Alex Smith
Trent Edwards
Brady Quinn
Derek Alexander
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Jay Cutler
JaMarcus Russell
Kyle Orton
Matt Cassell
Jake Delhomme
Matt Moore
Josh Freeman
Daunte Culpepper
Matt Sanchez
Kellen Clemens?
Give me a break.
Cutler looks more and more like Jeff George everyday.
Titans look like they would rather follow anyone other than Kerry “Tom” Collins
Jake delhomme throws waaay too many INTs
Culpepper should hang up his cleats now
Quinn, Anderson and Russell are just bad.
And Garrad holds on to the ball waaaay to long.
It boils down to this, can he play some will say yes some will say no, time will tell.
If you don’t think he can play fine reasons such as long slow throwing motion are valid points, but are correctible ones.
Saying his style will get him hurt, while in the SAME FRAKING SENTENCE suggesting he switch to RB, TE LB are inane. Where do you think he would take more punishment at RB or QB?
The only reason the Titans are in the race for a playoff spot right now is the team actually believes VY can get them the W’s whereas Kerry Tom Collins couldn’t.
It is the same reason Fisher didn’t go back to VY last year when the team same The Drunk could actually win games without gods, gift at QB couldn’t.
Watched the Jags all year and if I have to watch MJD suffer one more year of having that turd Garrad under center may cause me to cancel my subscription to the NFL Season Pass.
Also don’t bring the analogy that he doesn’t have the stuff of Tom “cheatriot” Brady. If everyone saw him actually becoming a 3 time super bowl winner why was he drafted in the 6th round?
Until we start issuing intelligence tests for important things like voting and using the internet we will continue to get ignorant ramblings of trolls living in their mama’s basement.

You got to understand that northen florida is all white people and born again’s. If you want to make a lot of money just bring in “god” into the conversation when talking to people up there.
@seeryer – i get your point and i even agree with your thoughts on him and his performance(s).
as for my feelings- i sneered at him myself 2 years ago when he beat out my team’s dmac for the heisman. but my point is that most people don’t seem to be reasonable like you when it comes to tebow, it’s either a lovefest or they want him to fail miserably and i just don’t think that’s cool.
Maybe The RedSkinned are tanking it to get Tebow.
@ tryagain,
In 2007 after Tebow won the Hesiman I broke down his and McFaddens stats. Of Tebows 23 rushing TDs, like 12 of them were from 3 yards or less. McFadden had like 18 TDs. Tebows 23 averaged like 7 yards and McFaddens 18 averaged like 18 yards. So Tebow won that years Heisman because of 12 TDs that were less than 40 yards in total. That was a HEISTman victory for Tebow. McFadden was the most outstanding player in college football that year, especially after Dixon tore his ACL. But like my brother told me when talking about Tebow, “everyone is scared to go against the big man upstairs”.
YOUR A JOKE OF AN ANALYST!
I am not from Florida nor did attend any school in Florida therefore my my opinion is not partial when I say this kid works his ass off and has accomplished more then you in 4 years of college then you ever will through out life.
HAHA Scared! Do you not see his passion for the game, this guy is not scared of SH*T, especially your idiotic columns.

Tebow’s a Douche
Most of the best QBs ever drafted never played in the Senior Bowl…. and Tebow is clearly not one of those people. Why would he have to play?
If he’s smart he doesn’t play and expose himself. Let a team take a gamble and see how they can train him. You can also say it is not as fair to him to thrust himself into a completely new offense for one game and expect that to be a fair representation of how he’d run that offense. Give him an offseason & training camp and I’m sure he’d pick up quite a bit more than the week before the Senior Bowl.
I mean, if we’re being real here.
