Bills put Byrd on injured reserve

Bills rookie defensive back Jairus Byrd made a big splash this season, with a league-leading nine interceptions through 14 games.

He’ll now have to sit in the clubhouse and see whether three guys tied with eight (Asante Samuel, Darren Sharper, and Charles Woodson) can catch or pass him.

Byrd has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced today.

As Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com points out, Byrd finished his rookie campaign only one interception shy of the all-time rookie record of ten, shared by Billy Atkins in 1962 and Tom Janik in 1967.

Byrd also is the 18th member of the team to land on injured reserve this year, a franchise record.

His roster spot will be filled by veteran linebacker Josh Stamer.

What round was this guy drafted in?
Woodson will definitely pass him up this week with Hasselback coming to town.
Sharper going up against the rookie in TB should also pass him.
Samuel might as well, considering he’s going up against Orton and Romo. Romo will definitely give him at least one.

The most irrelevant organization in the league. They are the Milwaukee Bucks of the NFL. If Berman didn’t obsess about them “circling the wagons” would they even be mentioned on national TV?

JJ Jones suck a fat one. Come on down to 1 bills drive and express that opinion at anyone of our always sold out home games. See where that gets you

An entire decade without a playoff appearance. Terrific.

18th Bill on IR. That’s insane. This team might actually be good when healthy.

    I agree with Nomnoms

That’s a shame, but with the drafting the Bills have done on defense in the past few years, I think things will look pretty good in the future. With Byrd, Posluszny, McGee and Schoebel, this team could easily have a top 5 defense within the next two years.

mattitude, don’t forget Maybin. He didn’t really do much this year but he got to camp late and he’s way too talented to be written off.

How many games can Pussluszny play without breaking something?

Rusty Jones where are you!? Not saying its all the conditioning coach’s fault, but damn!, 18 players on IR? That’s ridiculous.
Their record might not totally show it, but this team is a ship with no sail, in the middle of the ocean. Its a JV organization and getting worse.
