Fred Taylor: Jaguars might be better off in L.A.

Jack Del Rio isn't the only person in Jacksonville Fred Taylor is going to annoy this week.

According to the Associated Press, Taylor said the team might be better off moving to Los Angeles.

Wow.

"Sometimes the truth hurts," said Taylor. "It can be played either way in that the fans want the team to stay there, they have to show that they want the team to stay there."

UPDATE: Taylor said the comments about Los Angeles on Monday in Michael C. Wright's excellent interview of Taylor from the Florida Times-Union.  The Associated Press did not attribute the quotes or timeline of the quotes properly, and we regret passing along that error.

Taylor never lived outside of Florida before joining the Patriots and knows the Jaguars organization as well as any player.

"I don't know what's going to be a decision maker or breaker but you look at average attendance and whatever have you at the end of the day they're going to find a team to take out there," he said. "I don't want to offend anyone. Never do, but you've got to be realistic."

It's probably a little late to avoid offending anyone, although it's hard to disagree with anything he says here.

Taylor also commented that Del Rio's previous barbs about Taylor's leadership bothered him a "smidgen." Taylor said, "A little piece of me didn't" like them.

Del Rio was proven correct on one of his points from Tuesday: Taylor is a great interview.

Personally, I'd rather see the Vikings head west.

Pats domination will emerge in the playoffs, once we get healthy and hit our peak at the right time, no one will want to play the Pats. Patiently waiting for sissy bed wetters to start running their mouths..... Bring it!

You are very very late on this GR.

  8. Jville808 says: December 23, 2009 6:31 PM

Don't worry Freddie...no offense taken. We're not half as fragile as you here in Jacksonville.

  9. DB26 says: December 23, 2009 6:32 PM

True comments. It is sad, Jax has a solid franchise. I am a Browns fan and can tell you, our fan base matches up with Americas girls as well as being better than Smelladelphia and the Giants, and we suck sheep $h!t..... Jacksonville likely would be better off in Los Angeles, hell, even Montana for that matter!

What I don't like is his following comment:
"A little piece of me didn't like them". This is why I am disgusted by the NFL payscale. Don't like the franchises that are paying you those millions so you decide to play for yourself and not step up and be a leader. Jackoffs like Taylor ruin the NFL, and it is filled with these bottles of douche!

If the fans in Jacksonville hear Taylor's warning and take it as a wake up call and respond, they should be thanking him.

He's right and more respectable now for speaking the truth. The jax fanbase is a joke, its uncomparable to most other teams except maybe minnesota, st louis, san diego. why move a team like buffalo to toronto or LA when all you need to do in buffalo is bring in some POS-has been, and feed a load of crap to the masses like they just did with TO and previously with MARV. People around buffalo will go out and buy seasons next year even if they field the same team, they'll just allow ralph and his team of marketing geeks, ah-ha i mean football personel to shove more BS down there throat. I know i used to be one of them.
But the thing is, for one reason or another Ralph Wilson Stadium gets sold out every week so the Bills shouldn't even be in the discussion.(and they werent in this post but usually are, for all you by the book aholes)

    pats own u:

your team will be eliminated wild card weekend, my two year old nephew can score on the pats d. maybe they can have Captain ROOOODDNEY give them a pep talk....oh wait that useless nothing dont play anymore. and even if he did, no one would understand his point

  13. af16 says: December 23, 2009 6:42 PM

I doubt LA will give a shit about football. Didn't they move the Rams for a reason?

i.e. Aaron Schobel, two games a year he's noticed, the rest he's collecting $ for nothing.

...btw philly does smell why? i was there once and will never go back

I agree, Fred. Leave my Vikings out of it

Florida has the Dolphins and Bucs.

  16. twinkletoes says: December 23, 2009 7:09 PM

The LA Jags... sounds about right.

    The LA Vikings... nada.

  17. svn says: December 23, 2009 7:27 PM

    this what he said exactly
Way to leave out the whole context and story.
"What do you think about all the talk about the Jaguars going to Los Angeles?

I think it would be good for the NFL. I think it would be good for the Weavers, but I think it would be really bad for the city of Jacksonville. There are some die-hard fans there that believe in teal and black. So there are great fans there. At the same time, there are some fair-weather fans, too. A lot of them, as you can see with all the blackouts. I think the players there deserve more than that. But at the same time, the fans deserve just as much. I wouldn't want to spend my hard-earned money on something that's not a good product. I want to see results. I want to see wins. Some fans there just want to see entertainment. But it's a lot better when you see good wins with it.

The Jaguars moving might be good for the NFL, and the other owners who complain about small-market teams. But it would be bad for that city. I wouldn't mind one day in the future working in the Jags organization in L.A. Let me go ahead and throw my pitch in there right now [laughing]. The city would definitely miss the team. But Jacksonville, it's a [Georgia] Bulldogs, [Florida] Gators and [Florida State] Seminoles place. There's not enough room for four teams."

  18. sniperhare says: December 23, 2009 7:28 PM

Weaver isn't selling the team, I don't think he would lie to the city of Jacksonville. The Jags are going to stay in Jacksonville. Deal with it. The national media needs to focus on some other team, the Jags have only had a few blackout issues over the past few years up until this one. Look at the Raiders, they deal with blackouts every year and have been around forever and have millions more fans in the area than Jacksonville.

Are there even any fans in Jacksonville to offend?

  20. The RBM says: December 23, 2009 7:35 PM

Gregg, what's with the one word paragraphs man? Not you too? For awhile I was able to tell which "hard-hitting" posts were authored by someone not named "Florio", but its becoming increasingly more difficult. That refreshing breath of fresh air now smells like the breath of a hobo who has just awaken from a two day, liquor-induced coma (not that I know what that is, or smells like).

    Seriously.

  21. Setobakura says: December 23, 2009 7:39 PM

Florio posted that the Jags are moving to London to become the London Shaguars

  22. Captain says: December 23, 2009 8:15 PM

Be careful in L.A. Chuck Norris is often there.

  23. titansone says: December 23, 2009 8:30 PM

Unless the Jags actually win something - a conference championship or a SB - the fans will continue to be fickle and the commitment to eternal blackouts will continue. Gotta fill up that bandwagon or the bandwagon will be heading west!

  24. GoBrowns19 says: December 23, 2009 8:53 PM

He's right. Anyone in Jacksonville that doesn't know the end is near doesn't really care to begin with.

  25. RaiderChile says: December 23, 2009 9:08 PM

He just kidding. Niners would be the best bet. I read an article years ago that John York was in LA looking at the USC stadium...

  26. WildBirdOffense says: December 23, 2009 10:00 PM

What does this have to do with the Eagles

  27. VikingsPimp says: December 23, 2009 10:49 PM

I for one dont hope for any team to move. I would say expansion, but it has so diluted the talent pool as is, some teams are just unwatchable.

I know theyre are great fans in every city, and being from Minnesota I know how bad it sucks to lose a franchise (North Stars). Could Jax be permitted to permanently partition off seats they never sell. Nothing kills a fanbase like blackouts

  28. Whit says: December 24, 2009 2:10 AM

Jacksonville won't be able to keep around the Jags for much longer, in my opinion...

    -The obvious money/ticket selling issues
-Too many good college teams in the area with large fanbases to compete with, like svn said.
-The franchise has very little tradition and a short history, unlike said college teams.
-The team will have no problem selling tickets and finding fans in LA, despite LA being mostly a college football town its 10 times bigger than Jacksonville.

    A move makes sense.

As for the team name its a good fit, Jaguars actually lived in southern California not long ago...

  29. Nambla Limbaugh says: December 24, 2009 3:53 AM

A truckstop like Jacksonville getting an expansion team over a legendary NFL city like Baltimore was Paul Tagliabue's most obvious blunder and is one of the reasons that turd can't get into The Hall. HOF voters know he only shafted Baltimore's superior expansion bid to appease and toady for his former boss Deadskin owner Jack Kent Cooke.

  30. GoBrowns19 says: December 24, 2009 5:16 PM

Jacksonville getting a team has a direct correlation with why the Browns have sucked ass for 11 years straight...by not putting expansion in Baltimore that is. Tagliabue and Modell belong in the hall together in their own special wing. As soon as Goodell moves teams to LA and England to flounder, he can move in right next to them.
