Isaac Bruce won't play again for 49ers

Isaac Bruce won’t suit up one final time for the 49ers, even though his former team is on the Week Seventeen schedule.

49ers coach Mike Singletary confirmed that Bruce will be inactive for the final two weeks, like he has been the last four.  Facing the Rams one last time doesn’t sound like a priority.

“The final hurrah is not that big to him,” Singletary said.

Bruce is not believed to be injured, but is not practicing with the 49ers this week.  What Singletary left unsaid is that Bruce is unlikely to ever play in the NFL again.

It would be a quiet end to a quiet player’s career.  But Bruce put some loud numbers for the Hall of Fame to eventually consider.

Bruce is currently second in NFL history in receiving yards, fifth in catches and ninth in receiving touchdowns.

That sucks! He has had an incredible career!
Did you guys see the Niners’ fans that got destroyed by snowballs in the crowd last week?

hands down HoF’r. The dude was consistent & put up big numbers every year. As a Saints fan, I hated playing against him.

Neither will Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, or Dwight Clark…….Niners are old news……

Classy guy, elite WR in his prime. Dont remember him making any waves in St. Louis. Good luck Isaac!!

No doubt, Bruce is an elite WR with surgical route running. Hopes he sticks around with the 49ers camp and mentors Crabtree and Morgan as a position coach.

He let the young players play instead of raising hell. Class act.

I see him as a Henry Ellard, Rod Smith, Drew Hill type…a real good receiver but only a few pro bowls and probably will make but it will way way way down the line.

    hay1111 :
You suited up for the Saints? Really? Did you cover him?
    EskinSux:
What are you trying to say?
    Big_McLargeHuge:
Stupid Whiner fan, Bruce will walk. Deep down inside he’s pissed off at Singletary. Stupid comment!
    Youngone :
If I was getting paid to not play, I wouldn’t complain either.
He’ll be back next year with Seahawks so he can beat the Whiners.

Great player, but the line of WR’s in front of him waiting for the call to Canton is way too long.

It’s a shame Rams fans won’t get the chance to give him a final salute. Bruce is nothing but class.

He was o.k. Who could forget Georgia Frontiere hugging him on the sidelines after the Go ahead score vs. Titans in 2001 Super Bowl!?
(dude was not cool with it, either!) Too funny

  18. tre_fizzle says: Dec 24, 2009 8:14 AM

He is a class act. Some people might not understand what it’s like to be humble enough to put your own desires behind the betterment of the entire team including it’s up and coming players. It might be uncommon but it’s not unfathomable.

I hate it when a player does not leave the sport properly. Class act sure, never caused a commotion, excellent teammate and all, but to not know your done and be forced out is hard to watch. I know the paychecks matter, but every single player who retires while on an active roster before training camp starts i tip my hat off. They knew they couldn’t do it and did not waste the orginations time, money, and giving the fans false hope. I am not picking on Bruce or saying he couldn’t play, i am just saying i hate him being forced from football like this and not going out on his own terms.

Everyone is complaining about eagles fans for throwing snowballs, yet no one mentions the giants fans that threw beer bottles at desean jackson the week before

  21. RaiderChile says: Dec 24, 2009 12:47 PM

The Whiners are notorious for how they get rid of the players that got them titles and made the owners rich. Montana, Lott, Rice are a few who got screwed. That’s one on many reasons I can’t stand the Whiners.

  22. Lott42 says: Dec 26, 2009 12:03 AM

Hard to argue the “Whiner’s” success during the Montana, Lott, Rice era though isn’t it chile? One could argue that dumping great players prior to the deterioration of their skills kept them near the top for quite a run.
Truth be told…it’s really the 5 Superbowl victories you can’t stand.

Hey RaiderChile have fun posting that record for most consecutive losing seasons with 10 or more losses… Btw I’m not whining right now, just laughing histarically at your arrogance
