Jets give Perry a look

The Jets look well stocked at running back with Thomas Jones, Shonn Greene, and Chauncey Washington.  (Preseason favorite Danny Woodhead is largely a receiver now.)

But with the offseason fast approaching, the Jets tried out former Bengals first-round pick Chris Perry Wednesday, according to Scout’s Adam Caplan.

Perry, who turns 28 Sunday, has spent this year out of the NFL.  He has had previous tryouts with the Chiefs and Redskins.

We’d have guessed in August this would be Jones’ last season in New York, but he continues to defy the aging process.  Jones is due a $3 million roster bonus on the fifth day of the 2010 league year.

Leon Washington’s contract is also up, but the lack of a new collective bargaining agreement could keep him in New York as a restricted free agent.

Hahaha, I am highly amused by the fact that the Jets are one of the best teams in the league at running the football, and one of the best teams in the league on defense, and yet they cant win more games than they lose????
Every “expert” around the game of football says something along the lines of “in order to be a successful football team, you need to run the football, and you need to play defense…”. Maybe not…..LMFAO

I wonder if Perry may be brought in as a way to pick his brain for the Bengals offense in a game the Jets may need to secure a playoff spot. Not sure he could provide much information as the offense has changed so drastically since he played for them, but who knows?
Man, Chris Perry, Bengals had a chance to drop back and pick up Steven Jackson and instead chose to drop back and pick up this guy. Yeah, that stings a little. Not that Ced Benson hasn’t been a great story, but Jackson is a beast even on a bad team.

Jets fans do you like fumbles? That’s what you get with Perry. However, he’s not a bad athlete. He was an important cog in the 05 Bengals playoff run. He has very soft hands and caught a ton if passed out of the backfield that year. However he was injured in 04, 06, and 07. Then he flopped as a starter in 08 but that was cool because the Bengals ended up signing Cedric Benson.

That idiot punch by Thomas Jones on Sunday ruined a Jets drive that could have saved their season and enraged Coach Ryan. Rightfully!

God, the first thing that came to mind when I read the headline was Refridgerator Perry.

Did they try out any white guys? Is there a reverse Rooney rule in effect here?

Thomas Jones is in the “club”. He is a legitimate NFL running back. Not the best. But very solid and always in shape. He will serve the Jets well if kept. Teams use different “ploys”to motivate players to negotiate. Maybe the look at Perry is just that. After a year away from football maybe Perry is a bargain. Look at Cedric Benson in Cincy for how lucky a team can get when shopping in the unclaimed freight pile…

Jets need intelligent discipline and leadership from their Head Coach, not another RB.

If the Jets can live with its RB fumbling once a game then they should take a hard look at Perry.
