Portis is on board if Shanahan comes to Washington

Like the Redskins fanbase, running back Clinton Portis sounds excited about the possibility of Mike Shanahan taking over the team.

“If Coach Zorn is done, I would think that’s a great direction to go
in, if you can get Coach Shanahan,” Portis said on ESPN 980. “But I don’t know
if Coach Zorn will be gone.”

We can’t kill Portis for talking about the subject when asked, although it’s another example of how difficult the situation has become for Zorn.  Portis has been vague when talking about his future lately, but the possibility of his old coach arriving perked him up.

“You’ve seen my track record with Mike Shanahan,” Portis said.

We’ve also seen Shanahan’s track record in treating running backs as fungible.

He traded Portis after back-to-back 1,500-yard seasons.  If Shanahan does arrive, he might wonder what happened to the explosive back he used to coach.  And then find another one to replace him.

    Never trust a rat, Clinton.

I didn’t realize the Redskins needed Portis to sign off on any personnel moves.

It’s already been said, by why is Portis assuming that any new coach would want him?

Translation: “I have decided to fire Jim Zorn. I have informed Danny of my decision.”

As an Eagles fan I can tell you that the past few coaches the Redskins have hired made me smile.
If they get Shanahan I will actually begin to wonder whether they are on their way to becoming relevant again.

But will Shanahan be on board with Portis.
Shanny kicked his butt out of Denver for be a locker room cancer, and Denver didn’t miss a beat without him.
This is Portis way of saving his own job by kissing the new HCs behind early. Maybe he did get smarter.

Oh good. Thanks Clinton. That’s a load off of my mind. Whew.

I hope Portis realizes he needs to drop 20 pounds to get back to the explosive scat back mold he had so much success with in Denver. I doubt Sheriff Pimpalicious will though.

Maybe he’ll try and trade him for champ bailey.

I’m glad Portis is on board. Perhaps Clinton should be more concerned if he’s going to be on the roster next year.

Gee, thanks for your approval, CP. I guess the Skins can move forward with their hiring process. What a pompous, over the hill, asshole.

Yes, Portis is on board, to the tune of like 1o million against the cap.

  14. bearsrule says: Dec 23, 2009 11:27 AM

It would be great if Shanny comes in and trades him. He didn’t want him when he was younger. Why would he want him now ?

  15. skinsfan1970 says: Dec 23, 2009 11:30 AM

I’m a true Skins fan but my opinion is that CP is, and has been for a while, over rated. Immediately after he arrived in DC the “explosive back he used to coach” was gone. CP let Gibbs fool him into thinking he was a between the tackles power runner, now he can’t cut off a block to save Zorn’s life. I’d rather have Thomas Jones or Ced Benson before Portis……….same production at a cheaper price.

birdmantakediveth – Joe Gibbs should make you smile…it’s the closest you’ll get to 3 Lombardi Trophies!!

    Portis is an idiot. Period.

Ya, the funny thing is Portis may want to be on board if Shanahan comes to Washington, but Shanahan might want Portis off board.

  20. Krow says: Dec 23, 2009 12:20 PM

Coaches all love players who got their predecessor fired. Yeah, nothing like having that kind of guy on your team.

“I didn’t realize the Redskins needed Portis to sign off on any personnel moves.”
Are you kidding? Even the most ardent Skins fan is sick of the way Portis has long been up Snyder’s ass and has been treated by different standards than the rest of the team.

As a Cowboys fan I enjoy these articles about other NFC East teams mainly because other NFC East team fans eventually tell Phillies fans they are the only East team to have never won a Super Bowl and to STFU.

  27. grimsleeper78 says: Dec 24, 2009 1:22 AM

Can we get a new headcoach before we start making personnel decisions, although Im all for canning the cancr that is Clinton Portis!!

  28. Boofer T Justice says: Dec 24, 2009 12:56 PM

Oh CP’s face is going to be so red when he finds himself standing out at the bus stop with Zorn. Which hopefully will be Vinny’s last consult; know when the last bus is coming.
I assume CP’s gone after this year. If not he’ll only be there to make Rock, Quinton & Marcus look that much better.
The only contract I see CP signing next year is to take over Emmit’s Just-For-Men, old folks home commercials.
