Stanton will start for Lions

Lions fans have wanted to see what Drew Stanton could do as the team’s starting quarterback for a while.

Consider this an early Christmas present.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz confirmed Wednesday that the former Michigan State product will get the call Sunday over Daunte Culpepper.  The Lions scored 17 offensive points with Stanton under center during the second half of last week’s game against Arizona.

Stanton’s numbers were not impressive, but Culpepper was struggling with his opportunity.  Culpepper’s chances of starting in the league could be running out.

Matthew Stafford did not practice Wednesday, and is expected to be inactive Sunday.

Stanton has thrown 47 career passes since being drafted in the vaunted quarterback class of 2007, but this will mark his first start.

Lets not forget that Stanton hasnt taken any 1st team snaps before that game and has been the 3rd string QB. I hope he plays well, that way we dont need another QB to be Staffords backup. Fumblepepper is done here and probably the NFL.

    @ johnwayne
I think Culpepper has been done for about 6 years now.

Nobody will even consider bringing Culpepper in for a chance to start again. His best chance will to try and get on a team that doesn’t have a good #2 option, a situation like Chicago. But, I’m sure his ego and idiot agent will take him back into retirement.

Culpepper’s chances of starting in the league already ran out. That’s why he’s been demoted to 3rd string QB on the Lions.

Culpepper is his own agent. And Culpepper could still succeed (not be great, but be average) if he doesn’t have such a horrible team around him.

    Dear Daunte,
Denial is a river in Egypt. You’re a career backup.
    Sincerely,
    The NFL

He represents himself, which makes this comment even better. =)

pullpecker was like 38-39 with moss in minnehaha. they still had a good OL, other wideouts and good backs.
he is like 5-26 without moss. 5-16 without moss and the lions.
yall do the math. he blows chunks. jo-ey outplayed him in miamuh.

I know he is his own agent, that’s why I added “his idiot agent” comment in there.
