Brady wins Ed Block Courage Award from Patriots

Well, here’s a winner of the Ed Block Courage Award that won’t spark any controversy.

Tom Brady was named as New England’s recipient after a vote by his teammates, according to the Boston Herald.  Brady has battled back from torn knee ligaments and complications from an infection after the surgery.

Brady spoke this week that what he’s fought though is typical of his profession.

“Like all of us, I’ve battled some adversities and all of my teammates have too.  It’s really just what part of what this profession is.  A lot of it is being mentally tough and bouncing back from things that don’t necessarily go our way.”

The award is intended to honor courage, compassion, commitment and community.

No matter what you think of Mike Vick winning the Eagles’ Ed Block award, something positive has occurred because he won the honor.

Vick’s publicity has helped spotlight a meaningful award and a worthy foundation dedicated to improving the lives of neglected children and prevent child abuse.

I hope the award trophy didn’t get anywhere near his knees.

With that being said, Cadillac Williams deserves the award hands down.

    Here come the haters!
Congrats to Tom, here’s to many more years of success for you and the Patriots.

I guess we just give the award to anybody these days. Really though, how does Vick help the award? I have never heard of it until Vick but now my only impression of it is wow this is the stupidest award ever and clearly is meaningless if Mike Vick can get it. I hope the 49ers and Steelers don’t even vote for this award or make it some joke thing like vote for Limas Sweed and Glenn Coffee.

Vick don’t get too close to Brady or Comissioner Goofball will fine and suspend you again!

Teams can choose any one of the above it seems. Should compile a list once the press conference is held and why they were voted.
Some teams have players doing an insane amount of work for the community and other teams voted players who overcame an injury and the Eagles voted unanimously for a felon even though they have a few players who do much more community work than the felon.
Wonder if Brady’s illegitimate child feels neglected.

  7. snapcase says: Dec 24, 2009 9:43 PM

awwww and he didn’t have to kill any dogs to get it either.

  8. pudgalvin says: Dec 24, 2009 9:58 PM

Hey, banging models is hard work.

  9. Igottz5onit says: Dec 24, 2009 10:04 PM

You can go two ways with this one: 1) He has the courage to admonish the refs for missing calls, and the pretty boy smile to actually influence them to throw a flag, or 2) At least he is not Michael Vick, and at least he is not saying, “Yes I am courageous and I weathered an unprovoked storm that none of you could have.”

    I didn’t know Brady electrocuted dogs..Bravo!!

Hey Tom, Uh, this is Tiger. Um, there is a chick saying she might be carrying my kid. Do you know anything about this or have any involvement? I was just thumbing through my Blackberry and SHAZAM! your name popped up. I know TMZ has photos of me with that putz Romo at a U@ concert, but I really cherished our time together- because after all, U+ME= winners.

  12. Hooby says: Dec 24, 2009 10:39 PM

good for him. not sure what he did courageous, besides come back from a knee injury? either way, his teammates seem to think hes courageous enough to get it. we (you, actually) are sitting here typing about how these guys dont deserve something, even though we dont know them and havent spent a second with them.
hm. should we demonize brady like vick because he has a child with 2 different supermodels? yknow, christians (about 70% of the world give or take) would say that brady committed a worse act than vick (fornication over murdering an animal). although i guess you christians dont see it that way…silly christians.
@Lombardi 6: didnt the entire world use electrocution to kill…people? yeah, i think so.

  13. Richm2256 says: Dec 24, 2009 10:43 PM

I understand that Brady is now going to switch hobbies from banging pretty models to killing dogs ……. see, Mike Vick IS an inspirational guy.

Wow – it was so many angry white people on the Vick nomination, but on the DEADBEAT dad, nothing but crickets.
You BlueEyeDevils are so typical :)
    HA HA HA

Brady winning this award is a joke. He has 3 Super Bowl rings, 2 super bowl MVP’s and he has Gisele Bundchen to go home too every night. I’m sure someone on the Patriots has more courage than this coward. I can’t stand him and I can’t stand what the Patriots are these days

  18. tizzle says: Dec 25, 2009 12:18 AM

What exactly did brady do to earn this? What adversity did he overcome? What major volunteering did he do?

First, I would argue that 70% of the world is not Christian, especially considering almost 1/3 of its citizens are residents of China and India. Now I know there is a Christian element in both nations, however it is a minority religion. Add in the Islamic faith, which is not a major religion in the two above named countries and you will find quickly that your math is wrong. This is simply a case of the belief of Western superiority, our religions must be superior as well.
Second, if you want to coherently question the Christianity, which I wholeheartedly support, then you need to begin with the simple fact that the Bible is a fictional tale, in fact it could be said to be the first science fiction novel, yet people blindly follow its “teachings” with no thought at all. We will mock scientologists, but really, if you think about the “facts” of the Bible they are no more ludicrous than the founding “facts” of scientology.
The world does not revolve around Christ or America. Wake up and stop being such sheep.
    Baaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaaa

Wow, everyone hates Tom Brady. That jerk!…
I mean, it’s obvious most of the hostility is due to jealousy of his success in the league. He’s light years ahead of most guys favorite team’s QBs, so that makes sense.
He’s also probably alot better looking than some of the mongrels that haunt this board. And he’s married to a supermodel, so that makes sense.
He also yelled at a ref for not throwing a flag. But no other QB ever does that, and WRs never do that on nearly 99% of every passing play that is run, so I can see how Brady comes off as a cry baby.
He also had a child with a woman who he’s not married to, or even with anymore. Even if they didn’t know until they had split up, I can see how people might think this is a sticking point and a black mark on his character, especially if this were 1634 Puritan New England. Thankfully we have this board to set moralistic guidelines for our society. Much appreciated guys. Oh, and keep up with the hilarious jokes about Chris Henry.
So I can understand why everyone here hates the man. Where does he get off being such a classless jerk?
When he flies to England for a game, why should he be so smug and wear a suit when everyone is representing the NFL and the United States, by wearing track suits?
Why should he look directly into the camera for ESPN and say, “Tom Brady, Michigan” when he could yell “Rand University” like Randy Moss, or “The U!” with all the defiance and class of a gang member?
When he’s playing hurt with an injured finger/ribs/shoulder, why doesn’t he take a page from the class organization in Pittsburgh, and throw Fred Taylor and Vince Wilfork under the bus for not playing?
There’s no place in the NFL for guys like him. We need more Jeremy Shockeys and Albert Hainsworths, and more Flozell Adams, and more Luke Lawtons. Once that happens, what a great league it will be.
You clowns won’t have anyone to yell about anymore and as far as I can tell, no purpose in life, but at least the league will be on the right path once again.

When I saw the title I thought he meant “Brady Quinn” not “Tom Brady”.

  24. CharmCityRavens says: Dec 25, 2009 3:27 AM

Was Tom Brady courageous when he knocked up that chick and then ditched her for a supermodel?
Or is it for the times when a player comes within 6 feet of him and he turns to the ref and courageously motions for a flag?
Man, I’m hoping the Steelers nominate Hines Ward! Just think it would be the perfect trifecta – Vick, Brady, Ward all rounded up here in the same room in Baltimore. Slip some Ex-Lax and Kaopectate in their cocktails…

Imagine winning an award that makes people think of Micheal Vick, HOW EMBARRASSING! At least I can see WHY Brady got his award

  27. stanjam says: Dec 25, 2009 8:07 AM

Wow, guess everybody is too busy here hating to actually do some research and find anything out about Brady. best thing they can come up with is he had a child with someone else. A child that will never want for anything.

  28. Wick says: Dec 25, 2009 8:45 AM

Vick “winning” an award to essentially honor his character is so indescribably inane that it defies any conceivable explanation.

  29. blitzburgh1 says: Dec 25, 2009 8:47 AM

Aaron Smith go the award for the Steelers…….who’s son has had cancer for the last year.
    ’nuff said.

  30. wwwmattcom says: Dec 25, 2009 9:27 AM

According to this award, there are about 20 players on the Buffalo Bills alone who deserve to win the award next year. ugh. I guess this shows how un-important this award is.

  32. afiresnake says: Dec 25, 2009 9:50 AM

    Just kiddin. Moss is great.

    > Vick’s publicity has helped spotlight a
    > meaningful award
The award lost all meaning the moment they awarded it to this sociopathic douchebag.

Wow, odd little place for such an worn out soapbox.
” I’ll show them Christians,I’ll go on a football blog and call ‘em all sheep!HEH! That’ll show em!”
Sheep are followers, right? Well you tell me, in the world today, a world built on a ” me first” attitude who is more of a sheep, those who believe in a higher power than themselves and a higher goal than serving themselves or the ones who sit on the sidelines serving only themselves and hurling rocks at those who refuse to give foothold to blind cynicism?
    baaa indeed.

  37. Hooby says: Dec 25, 2009 12:45 PM

is nobody listening to me? ive said it like 5 times already. ill say it again, its really the only valid argument so far.
nobody here knows these people. they see tom brady ask for a flag after a questionably late hit and snap to the conclusion that hes a pussy. if you went through 7 some surgeries and had your entire career frozen for a year all because of a late hit, youd probably be a little pissed if someone put a late hit on you and they didnt call it. no wait i forgot, YOU CANT PLAY FOOTBALL. YOU DONT HAVE 3 SUPERBOWL RINGS. if he wants a flag to prevent his knee from being torn in half again, let him ask. even if some of you assholes saying he doesnt deserve it knew how to quarterback a team, i doubt you could go out week after week and do it knowing thered be people criticizing and mocking everything he does.

What a joke. This award should go to the NFL referee’s, for all of the warm-hearted charity they’ve given to the Patsies. To say they’ve been generous would be an understatement.
