Colts finally put Anthony Gonzalez on IR

When the Colts parted ways with receiver Marvin Harrison, Anthony Gonzalez moved into the starting lineup.

Gonzalez suffered a knee injury in Week One, and he has been unable to play ever since.

But the Colts carried him on the 53-man roster, in the hopes that he’d be able to return.

Now, with two weeks left in the regular season and the playoffs coming thereafter, the Colts have announced that Gonzalez has been moved to injured reserve.

“Anthony has been diligent in the rehabilitation of his knee, but it has not progressed to the point that it allows him to return to the field this season,” team president Bill Polian said.  “We look forward to his healthy return next season.”

Gonzalez joined the team in 2007 as a first-round draft pick from Ohio State.  In his first two seasons, he caught a total of 94 passes for 1,240 yards and seven touchdowns.

Hopefully this will allow the Colts to keep Stover and Adam Vinatieri on the roster.

uhm, just curious with all the headlines, but did someone get new “I” and “R” keys as early christmas presents and need to break them in?

Oh they miss him. He’s still the 2nd best receiver on this team. I don’t care what Garcon and Collie did.

We are not missing Gonzo. Not that he wasn’t a key component of the offense, but the young guys have stepped up. If he comes back next year, he will have to scramble for his job as part of an experienced corps of receivers – a good problem to have, as the experts would say.

Gonzalez is overrated. Supposedly Manning could turn any receiver into a star, and Gonzalez was going to replace Harrison. Didn’t work, both Collie and Garcon have better numbers this year than Gonzalez ever has. Save him a seat on the bench when he gets back.

I don’t care what you say, but the Colts are a sub .500 team without Peyton Manning. Sign Garcia. If you think that Garcia would give you guys a shot in the slim chance that Manning goes down your an idiot.

They probly knew all along that Gonzalez wasnt going to be able to play and they just kept him on the 53 man roster so Marvin Harrison would stop calling looking for a job.
